What program are you using for audio editing?  I don't see why it would be slow when working with MP3 files if you use MP3 Direct Cut and if you are working specifically with MP3 files, you may want to try that program.

Hi,
I bought an RCA cambio tablet laptop hybrid with 32gigs storage, intel atom quad core processor and 2gigs of ram with windows10 32bit installed onto it. It works ok. About the only games it will play good are the Jim Kitchen's games, quenton c's playroom, and rs-games. But those are good enough. I use it as my primary computer until I can afford a new laptop. It works both with NVDA and with jaws, works very good with both of those. When using jaws with the touch screen, it is similar to using iOS. Jaws even has the rotor like iOS does on my latest iPod touch. Sometimes the tablet can be slow when loading websites or if you try to do more than 2 things at a time. You can do audio editing and convert videos but it is really slow. I also recommend adding a micro-sd-card to expand the tablet's storage. I have a 128gb micro-sd card installed into mine. My RCA cambio cost me around $99 on amazon. It has windows 10 home.
When I get a new laptop I found out I can save money. I found a laptop with 256gb solid state drive, windows 10 in s mode which I can switch to windows 10 home when i get it. It has 8gigs of ram and an AMD a12 3.6ghz processor in it. And it is windows 10 64bit. I found that one for around $350 on amazon.

Windows Tablets with Screen Readers

Joe Orozco

Hello,

Can anyone speak to accessibility between JAWS or NVDA and Windows
tablets? I’m curious as to whether or not the experience is at least
somewhat comparable to using an iOS device? I’m potentially looking
for a travel device, something less bulky than my primary laptop. I’m
looking ore for production than media consumption, and while I know
laptops still outpace standalone tablets, something like one of the
Surface models still seems appealing. I would pair it with a keyboard,
but I’m curious as to the direct interaction with the screen itself.
Thanks in advance for anyone with helpful insights.

Best,

Joe

You need to use the 64 bit version, as far as I know, for these associations to take place.  As I recall, this was either done without asking during installation or I was asked during that process.

Hi List,

I’m using the current nvda and win10 1903.

I download and install 7zip; it is on the taskbar.

When I open the aps menu on a zipped   folder, neither 7zip or its submenu are in the available choices.

I know I need to do something to associate 7zip with zipped folders, I do not know how to do this.

In win xp, 7 and 8x this association happened automaticly with the 7zip installation.

I tried removing 7zip and reinstalling, but no joy.

Suggestions,\

Thanks,

Monte

Yes, I’m smiling too; most of the time.  But not at this un7zip minute.

Whether I use the aps key or shift plus f10, 7zip is not a choice.  That’s my problem.  7zip does not show in the options.

As  two other listers suggested, I’ll make sure I have the 64-bit version installed.

Thanks,

Monte

Highlight whichever archive file, and using your Applications key (Shift+F10), try hitting 7 which should take you right to 7Zip. Just tell 7Zip what to do, extract here… etc.

Hi Monty,

If you have a 64 bit system, you _MUST_ use the  64 bit version of 7Zip for full functionality.  Uninstall the 32 bit and then install the 64 bit version.

I think it usually depends on whether or not you downloaded the 32 or 64 bit version.
Unfortunately, I haven’t used windows in quite awhile, so my suggestion might be totally wrong, but try downloading the 64 bit version, and if that’s what you used, then try the 32 bit version if they even still have that available.
Thanks,
John.

Hi Group:

Whenever I put my computer on sleep, it goes to lock screen.  When I hit the space bar to wake it up, it says lock screen and I just hit a key and I can type my password in.  Hope this helps.

I have done almost the same thing, as when my Win 10 System
automatically goes into Screen Saver, or Power Saver Mode for not
touching a Key for a length of time.

Can you just repeat the same Command?  Something like a Toggle Command?

On mine, I need to Tab around to a Password Screen, and re-enter it.

I have accidentally, Tabbed around to Lock Screen and then Press the
Enter key.

Yes, Folks, I am one of those Brilliant Blind folks who are actually, at
times, Quite Unbelievably UnBrilliant.   Well, make that Most of the time.

However, after choosing to Lock Screen I think I only had to choose Lock
Screen again, and then once again, type in my password.

I know I breathed a Huge and Greatful Sigh of Relief when I was able to
continue operating my System.

Re: Win amp on windows 10

Steve Matzura

1. Open Winamp.

2. Press Control plus P to open the Preferences dialog.

3. Press S until you hear "Shell optins."

4. Press TAB until you reach the first checkbox, labeled "Add enqueue and play to Winamp's associated file types."

5. If this box is not checked, press the spacebar to check it.

6. Optionally, press TAB until you hear the checkbox called "Start Winamp playing if it is not already."

7. Checking this box will perform the action of playing the file chosen from File Explorer when you press ENTER (double-click) on that file.

8. Press Shift plus TAB until you find the Close button.

9. Press ENTER. This closes tWinamp's Preferences dialog.

NOTE: Depending on your user account control settings, the first change you make in thi dialog may cause the Windows User Account Control dialog to be displayed. If this happens, press Alt plus Y to acknowledge that you wish to make changes, then continue with Winamp maintenance as described above.

Re: Win amp on windows 10

Guessing based upon on how things are spelled within the subject field
anyway, you are actually talking about Winamp the media player (which is one
word) and you enqueueing additional files, folders etc within your playlist,
right?

Creating Playlists using Winamp or in this case, just enqueuer files and or
folders within Winamp for one to play.

This has already been answered, but for convenience just answering it again
(there are several different ways of doing most things on computers). This
process has worked with XP, 7, 8 and 10.

1. Open up Winamp.
2. Within the Winamp Playlist Editor tab we'll call it (Alt+E) which is
where you have all of your chosen tracks. To choose individual tracks to add
to this list, just highlight/select whatever tracks on your machine or other
drives that you are wanting to add to the playlist, use your applications
key (Shift+F10)
3. Then press E for Enqueue in Winamp (or just arrow down to it). Do this
with whatever tracks, albums, folders that have anything you are wanting to
add to the playlist that you are interested in creating.
4. After you have all that you selectively choose to have, simply press X
for play, but you do not need to wait before you have everything chosen to
begin playing whatever it is within your playlist. You can press play at
anytime, and add additional files and or folders at anytime as well.
