Re: Switching to Android phone
Jaffar Sidek
Hi. I totally ditched IPhone because there is no freedom to share or get other stuff from other platforms except for Apple itself. I found it a constant irritant to not be able to share stuff with my son and my friends, and so, even if the IPhone is a little more accessible, i made the switch to Android and have not regretted it. Yes there are some irritating quirks found in Android, but I can live with those and enjoy more freedom of use rather than to have to Jailbreak the IPhone to get what I want. JailBreak? what a horrid criminal terminology for non-criminals.

Hi Monte,
Yes but, did you check all the front USB ports? I've only encountered computers that supply power to a couple USB ports, but not all USB ports. I'm not saying you're wrong, but just so you know, you should all the ports so you know which USB ports have power to charge or run devices when the computer is shutdown

Hi Techtalkers!
My usb fans arrived on Friday. I wanted 1 so I could tell if my hp small form factor desktop has shut down or not as it runs so quietly. It has 10 usb ports; four front and six back. I plugged the fan into a front port and it began to spin. Says I, this pc is not running; I checked and it was not. Then I plugged the same fan into a rear port and it did not run. So, it seems that with the computer shut down, there is power to the front ports but not the rear. Just another answer for trivial persuits.

Re: refreshed Lenovo, Windows 10, NVDA web commands problem?
Gene
Can you move around on web pages using the regular
navigation methods such as up and down arrow and tabbing?
While I don't know if this will help, NVDA has an
item you can run that may correct the problem. But your description isn't
what I would expect for this to work. But it won't do any harm and it
might help.
There are times when files become unregistered that
NVDA needs to work properly in browse mode with most browsers.
New main steps start on new lines.
Open the NVDA menu with NVDA key n.
Down arrow to tools and press enter.
You are in the tools submenu. Up or down arrow to run registry fixing tool. That isn't
the exact wording but its close. Press enter.
I haven't run it so whether there is anything else
to do, you can see. That's probably it except maybe to respond to a
confirmation that it has been run.

As I expected, I got the unit back in working condition, a tad faster than it was, and pretty much stripped of much of my familiar software. No problem, I fully expected this. My main problem is that web browsing commands such as h for header and k for next link will not work. What's odd is that these commands DO Work in Thunderbird but not in any web browser, Google Chrome or Firefox. Is there some NVDA setting I have forgotten? Or is there some windows or browser setting I must change? Help appreciated. Thanks in advance. John Sanfilippo -- - JS o m -

Re: Deleting data or reformatting computer to prepare for sale.
Gene
It depends on how thoroughly you want to remove
data. Reformatting doesn't remove it. Others will probably discuss
this, but you can use programs that overwrite data on the disk. When you
delete information or format, it is still there. The instructions that
tell the computer how to find it are removed and the computer treats the space
as blank but someone with sufficient technical knowledge can find it.
Overwriting it enough times makes it unrecoverable.
