Re: What kind of USB cable for the BrailleNote Apex

Hi, it seems it is a proprietary cable. See the following page for further info: http://support.humanware.com/en-usa/support/braillenote_apex/braillenote_apex_as_a_braille_display

I know about Humanware, but they often charge inflated prices for standard things like SD cards, power supplies, not to mention their devices. I just wanted to know if the sync cable is a standard USB type B or C, or if it has a proprietary plug that goes into the Apex?

I have a used BrailleNote Apex coming next weekend with no cables, and I have never even touched one before, so I am pretty excited. I have a power supply and a new battery, but no USB cable to connect it to my computer. Which type of USB cable fits the Apex? Thanks in advance for telling me.

I did not say to buy from humanware; I said you could find out which type ov usb cable to get. Unless your apex is very new, it will not be the usb c cable as that has been around for only the last year or so. Maybe you can take the apex to a store and find the right cable that way.

Re: Google Chrome not shutting down
Gene
I assume you already saw the suggestion to try exit
in the file menu, which may work. If that doesn't work, you can try close
in the system menu. That may work. To do so, do the
following:
Open the system menu with alt space bar. Hold
alt and while doing so, press the space bar. Release both keys and then
type c. That is the shortcut for close in that menu.
If neither of those work, I'll tell you how to
close the program using the task manager. Or, perhaps I should say,
someone will tell you. If you are running XP or Windows 7, I can, but I
don't have Windows 8 or 10 and the Task Manager may be organized
differently.

What do you mean by it never closes? Are you
saying that alt f4 doesn't close the window or are you saying something
else?

I use alt f4, and no, I didn't try the exit option.
Alt f4 always worked until a few weeks ago.
I will try that.

How do you close Google Chrome? Do you use Alt-F4? Have you tried closing it using the exit option on the Chrome context menu?

Edge OK Now
Debbie April Yuille
Hi All
After many installations and uninstallations, I now seem to have an accessible copy of edge on my computer. For some reason one of the versions I’d downloaded seemed to be in Japanese. Anyway, thanks to those who have commented on my previous email. All is ok now.

Re: Scanner/Printer with OpenBook
Monte Single
It is possible that your wireless connection does notcover all your house. As you have a usb connection, just use a usb cable to connect your laptop to the scanner printer. It should work as you already have the printer/scanner software on your laptop.

Thank you all for your replies. The computer that I have the scanner set up with is a laptop. Since I lost my wireless connection, would that have anything to do with the fact that I use the laptop in different parts of the house? I have noticed that it does have a USB connection.

Hi veronica, I’ve used Epson scanners for over 20 years. You just need to make a note the next time you get your wireless connection reset. It is quite possible that your scanner also has a usb connection.
From: main@TechTalk.groups.io [mailto:main@TechTalk.groups.io] On Behalf Of Veronica Kirk
Hello,
Those of you that have OpenBook, I was wondering which scanner/printer do you use. I have an Epson WF 26-30 series, with a wireless connection. A technician set it up for me, but it has now lost its connection. I am thinking that maybe I should find a scanner that is easier to use.

The NEw Edge not that Great with JAWS Yet.
Debbie April Yuille
Hi All
I’ve just installed the new edge from the Microsoft website and I’m finding it not very accessible with JAWS. First of all when navigating around pages you get it saying “Japanese” some of the time as well as the page content. Also, the menu controls are not always read out. I’m using the latest build of JAWS 2020. Any input is much appreciated.
Thanks Debbie
