Amazon Parcel Tracking
Fanus
Hello List
Sorry, I think this is too much off topic but I hope someone can help. My Amazon order tracking on their site just says "shipped, out for delivery". Is there a way to get more particulars, like what happens every day. The order number starts with B and ends with M so I do not know which service Amazon uses. Regards Fanus

But I never purchase anything using the computer; i have done so with my Echo; or my sis does it for me using my info. I hope it will be all right. I just purchased a 500 gig solid state drive; and a 4 tb drive for the inside of the computer. My current 1 terabyte drive is dated November of 2011. Why, this dear old machine is older than I thought. By the way, I just did get in touch with computers for the blind, and the laptop price was 185 dollars. They cannot guarantee their batteries. of course, they're used machines. They come with win 10 and that demo of Jaws. Window Eyes also has one of those demos, or used to. I'm so stubborn that I cannot learn Jaws and love my dear old win eyes, which my sighted techie calls Windows Eyes. Thanks again. So far I'm on the right track. It's when I run into trouble, I'll be back here begging you experts for your further help. All the very best, Penny pengold2@gmail.com The old lady schoolmarm from Eastern Nebraska.

Looks like Stonewall Cable in New Hampshire is alive and well. This message from Mr. Osborn is extremely helpful. I think I will try to call them tomorrow and give them the nomenclature that you just sent me. I may order 3 or 4 of them, and still purchase Wayne’s if he finds it. As for the battery pack, that will probably turn out to be more difficult, but I can be fairly resourceful. Thank you Kay.

Subject: [boughtandsoldbytheblind] DecTalk Express Cable and Connector Last February I did some research into locating such things as the cables, connector, and battery pack for the DecTalk Express. I had real good luck on the cables, but the battery pack has turned difficult at best. First the good news and I am copying a couple of folks who requested this specific information: Cable supplier: www.stonewallcable.com The primary cable for the DTE is generically called an MMJ to MMJ, but carries a DEC part number BC16E. The part is usually ordered as a BC16E-10, -25, or - whatever, where the "-XX" indicates the length in feet. Stonewall Cable uses a part number is SC-7021 and then you tell them how many feet you want it to be. I chose to get a 10 foot. The pricing is $5.50 plus 20 cents per foot, ergo a 10 foot cable was $7.50. Next we have that funky little connecter that you can't buy at Radio Shack. Generically this is called an MMJ to DB-9F. The DEC part number is DEC H8571-J and the Stonewall Cable part number is SC-9444-J. The price on this piece is $12.95. Shipping is whatever you want, but I like and they will provide USPS Priority Mail at the reasonable rate of $7.85 (this was last Feb.). I was going to order up a batch of cables and connectors, but when no one found an immediate need last Feb. I dropped the idea. It's probably just as well that each person handle there own. Stonewall takes credit cards and their phone number is toll free 800-525-3303. I loved there internet order form, but I also have the benefit of a couple of eyes. If I come up with a reasonable solution to the battery problem I will send it out. $115.00 plus shipping for the battery pack is outrageous. By the way, your savings by using Stonewall will be about $44, where authorized DecTalk suppliers are quoting $50 for the adapter and $14 for the cable. Mike "Mr. Frugal" Osborn Kay Malmquist

Good morning Kay and Wayne. Kay, if you figure out what that jack was called I would be grateful because there is a company here in the Inland Northwest that I think can manufacture a cable for me that would do the trick. Wayne, if you find that old cable, I have 10 bucks that is burning a hole in my pocket.

Years ago when I use to have the tech talk external I purchased a cable for it that's much longer than the one that comes with it. I have to go through my mass of cables, since I think I have it. If I find it I'll let you know, and sell it to you for $10. This cable is new. if you have any questions just ask.

Thanks Monte. That’s a shame. I should probably check with my old friends who I know to have drawers full of old cables and electronic relics from the 1980s

As I recall, it was a proprietary cable; the rj45 type end was not standard, it has a sort of offset to it. Good luck.

One of my buddies is sending me a Dectalk external to have some fun with, but it has no cables. I seem to remember that the cable that connects it to the serial port on the PC has a 9 pin female on one end, and a phone jack kind of RJ45 looking plug for the Dectalk. I know that the Dectalk end was smaller than the RJ45, but bigger than a phone jack. I’m trying to find a cable to hook up the Dectalk. What is the name of the end that fits the Dectalk? RJ11 or RJ12 maybe? Thanks.

Re: win7 security software?
Gerald Levy
In addition to MSE, Malware Bytes still works in Windows 7.
There is a company called 0 Patch that intends to continue
providing security updates for Windows 7 through 2023 for $25.99 a
year, but according to a few members of another list who have
tried installing it, it is not very accessible. And I think only
enterprise customers can continue to receive security updates from
Microsoft at additional annual cost. I don't think home users can
sign up for this service.

your welcome. The reason its better to go nomail is that Groups.io
has a requirement that owners can’t change, that when someone subscribes, their
first message must be approved. So for all the groups you would have left,
the first message you sent to every one would have needed to be approved and
that might have led to annoying delays in some cases.

Re: food delivery apps
Ron Canazzi
Hi Troy,
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
I use Door Dash. The service is very good although the mark up is quite significant. You do the ordering through the app itself or if you like from the website itself. The Door Dash website is quite accessible. Some restaurants use just one of these services and others use more than one. The delivery fee and the dasher tip (driver tip for other apps) is indeed separate. This can result in a large mark up--somewhere around 15 or 20 percent in some cases. With Door Dash, they have a dash pass feature where you pay $9.99 monthly and for those restaurants that accept it the delivery fee is waved. That's the problem. In my area only about 20% of the restaurants accept the dash pass feature. If it is a cold or stormy day and you can't get out to fetch the food yourself and if one of your favorite restaurants does not deliver, then the service is worth it. My experience is only with Door Dash. I downloaded and installed Grub Hub, but when I looked at the comments on their page, most of them were negative and I have been reluctant to order anything with Grub Hub app. Both the Door Dash and Grub Hub apps are very accessible. For all of the food delivery apps, you have to register through the app or the website and this includes linking your account to a payment method: debit card, credit card or whatever.

A Plextalk 2 recording question?
Vicky Vaughan
Hello List, I am just starting out with a Plextalk 2 or PTN 2. I have listened to the manual, but am still in the dark as to how I actually record on it. It has no actual record button. I see that I can create a new title, but once that is done, how do I start it recording?
Perhaps, it can see that I do not have a blank SD card in it and so the option is not given?
Any help will be gratefully received!
Sincerely, Vicky V
