Facebook Messenger for Desktop

Hello all, I have found there is a Facebook messenger app for Windows 10. Has anyone tried it, and if so, is it accessible? I am using the latest NVDA as my screen reader. Thank you in advance.

Re: Your experiences with Humanware product repair

That’s my argument for not buying any of this stuff. I’m surprised companies are still able to make money selling these blindness products for thousands and thousands of dollars when there are so many mainstream solutions available.

I think these days its a rip-off especially if you don't have the money for the high-priced notetakers.just get a braille me for $500, pair it with a $250 iPad and you pretty much have the same thing as a $4000 or $5000 brailleNote touch, but with many more features.

Hi

Yes, Windows seven is no longer supported according to the Microsoft product life-cycle. There has been plenty of media coverage about this in the various online computer channels and you can find out more information on Microsoft website. as for the security essentials, I believe it is still being maintained as the database used by Security essentials is not dissimilar to Windows defender however that being said I don’t think you can count on this to protect your machine as many security Vulnerabilities and exploits are in the kernel of windows itself rather than viruses which Windows defender/Security essentials is focused on protecting against. Hope this makes sense.

Please be aware that Micro Soft is still supporting micro soft security essentials for WINDOWS 7.

So, it is incorrect to say that windows 7 is no longer supported by micro soft.

Hi Veronica Firstly, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to everyone :-) I am a newcomer to the list although I have been on this list previously I think but sometime ago so hello again everyone :-) Veronica, Windows 7 is now no longer being protected by Microsoft security updates and patches. This will leave it open to critical security flaws which hackers may exploit. My strong recommendation is that you upgrade your laptop to Windows 10 at the earliest possible opportunity, using the Windows 10 media creation tool. You can still upgrade your Windows laptop for free as Microsoft have kept this option open long past its intended expiry so please take advantage of this while you still can. Word 2013 should work on Windows 10 however you can purchase an office 365 subscription which will cover all your computers and mobile devices and which will give you office Versions going forward, including updates and feature improvements. Office 365 personal edition can be had from as little as $60 on market places such as Amazon and can be digitally downloaded and installed without the need to enter any cereal or license key information. It is also available in retail packs. Very best of luck to you. On 22 Jan 2020, at 22:11, Veronica Kirk <veronicaa.kirk@gmail.com> wrote:

Even though I have a windows 10 computer, I am still using my windows 7 laptop. Last night I used Microsoft Essentials to scan the computer for viruses, and it worked fine. All of my main programs are on the windows 7 such as Microsoft Word 2013, which I do not have on the windows 10.

I just bought another machine from Kevin and having trouble getting it hooked up to my network. The first one went right on when I plugged it in; but this one isn't seeing my network. It's a windows 10 computer with a wired lan connection. There's probably some kind of wizzard to access in the settings? Could someone who knows this stuff give me some pointers, please? Thank you. Your experiences with Humanware product repair
Steven Johnson
Hello everyone. I finally got the BrailleNote Apex and it has a Kernel Load Failed error, hence, probably needing a trip to Humanware. I understand that they charge 140 dollars an hour for service, on top of a 95 dollar benching fee. For those of you who have needed service on your Humanware products, do you feel that they treated you fairly, or that they ran up a tab on you? Maybe the modern incarnation of Humanware is more ethical, but I saw an old BrailleNote a few years back that needed a new battery. I believe that Humanware quoted a sum in the range of 200 dollars for this battery. I opened the unit because we had given it up for dead, and the battery consisted of 6 AA batteries wrapped in a plastic sheaf with 3 wires soldered on to the end of it. We took pictures. Anyhow, do they treat people more or less fairly, or do you feel that they try to fleece us?

part of problem solved, was microphone help needed on the out of sight chat site
Troy Burnham
Hi all,
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Okay part of my microphone problem was user error, I was hitting ctrl-f4 in the sound check room instead of ctrl-4. When I hit ctrl-4and tested the microphone I did hear my own voice, but I also got some other unwanted feedback that got less as I turned the microphone gain lower but it was still there although in the background even with the mike gain at less than 10%. Anybody know how to fix this? Btw I'm running windows 10. Troy

microphone help needed on the out of sight chat site
Troy Burnham
Hi all,
I have a USB microphone that I purchased from Best Buy a while back. When I go onto out of sight I immediately go into preferences to the sound system tab and make sure the correct microphone is chosen, I choose the only USB microphone in the list, but when I okay the changes and then go into the sound check room, when I hit my control key to open the mike I hear the key up sound but after I say something and let go I never hear my voice coming back to me. How might I go about trouble-shooting this problem? Thanks. I usually use my iPhone on the site and I never have any problems, but I prefer to play the games on the site on my computer so I'd really like to get this working. Oh and I do know to hit ctrl-4 in the sound check room before trying to talk and then hit it again before leaving the room. Troy

Subject: [TechTalk] using jaws 2020 the virtual cursor turns off

quite annoying. Whether I'm using Chrome, Brave or even Windows Live Mail, very
often I have to turn the virtual cursor back on using insert z because for some
reason the virtual cursor turns off by itself upon opening pages. I will test
Jaws 2019 to see if this happens the way it does with 2020; but I've seen 2019
do this sometimes in emails but haven't yet seen it while browsing.
If anyone knows what I might try to stop this I'd
so appreciate input.

Fanus, Amazon has their own delivery service now, their tracking

Confusion Over Chrome Based Edge Browser
Ron Canazzi
Hi Group,
I downloaded betas of the Chrome based Edge Browser over the past few months. I also see a reference on Desktop and in the start applications menu to Edge DEV or Edge Beta. I brought this about myself because of being adventurous enough to try the new Edge. How do I know which one is the Chrome Based Browser and which one is the older one? Thanks for any help. -- They Ask Me If I'm Happy; I say Yes. They ask: "How Happy are You?" I Say: "I'm as happy as a stow away chimpanzee on a banana boat!"

Re: Dectalk cable, what is the phone jack end called
wayne <greenwood33@...>
I found the dec talk express cable, it's a new
cable with the 9 pin adapter. I bought it new but never got to use it. Oh
yeah, and it's a longer cable. It wasn't long after I purchased this cable that
my dec talk express needed major repairs, so I purchased a double talk. If
you need it I think I still have the electrical adapter. As for the dec
talk express when Dan Werich told me that a new dec talk battery would cost me
$115 for just the battery, and the ac jack was shorting out. His best guess was
that the repairs were going to run about $200 or more. I believe I through it
out, I'm not sure. If I do come across it you're welcome to it. I'm ready to
ship you the cable. I'm not going to charge you anything, I'm just glad I could
help. Just let me know where to ship too, and if you want to send your address
off list my email address is
