Unfortunately, the owner/moderator of the Thunderbird list is a guy named Marcio who seems to have vanished into the ether. He has not posted on the Thunderbird or any other lists for months, so there is no way for a new member to the TB list to get his first message approved. To my knowledge, nobody else has taken over running this list. It is possible thatMarcio is experiencing personal or technical issues that prevent him from moderating the TB list.

Also, I think it is better to use Firefox
Portable. If there are any problems such as corruption of the program or
you lose your profile, you don't have to waste any time trouble shooting or
repairing the program. Simply copy the portable version to another
location as a backup. Delete and copy the program to the backup location
as things change so it will be current. if you ad some book marks,
update the backup. After a new version is installed to update the
program, copy it to the backup location. then, if anything goes wrong
with the program you use, delete the folder and copy the portable backup
folder to the location of the program you use and you will have to do nothing
else. the portable version does everything the installed version
does and I think Firefox should actually get rid of their installed version
and make the portable version available as the program. I see no
advantage and clear disadvantages in using the installed
program.
also, if you get a new computer, you can simply
copy the portable version to the new computer. No copying cookies to the
installed version on a new machine, no loss of history, which means no loss of
visited links, you will have everything you have on the old machine, except
that I'm not sure if every add-on and plugin is copied, but they may all
be..

Hi I am not shure about this web browser how ever I thought that the tor web browser was the browser that you were able to use if you wanted to access the dark web? I thought or was under the impression that that was not accessible using jaws or other adaptive tech. from Mich.

If that isn't the case and accessibility is disabled, you may need sighted help to change the setting so your screen-reader can receive information from the browser.
You can try changing this setting and see if the browser works well. I don't know how the Tor developers may have changed the browser compared to firefox and if it will work well after this change. I am assuming that at present, you get no information from the browser. I don't even think you can see the menus. Let me know if things are different from what I describe. If they are, that may indicate another problem, and others may be able to address it with more information.
As I recall, the accessibility setting is somewhere in options.

I don't know why you are having the problem with
Chrome. You may want to use Internet Explorer to download and Chrome for
everything else.
As time passes, you may want or need to use Firefox
for downloading and Chrome for everything else. Over time, you will slowly
be able to use Internet Explorer on fewer and fewer sites. It is an
archaic browser and as sites change technologically, slowly, increasing numbers
won't work.
You will have little to learn to use Firefox.

Do you know how to
download with Internet Explorer? It makes it much more difficult to
test the problem if you limit yourself to only one browser.

I'm not
sure. Where do you see such wide fluctuations as five minutes and
two days. The only place I see something like that is when
uploading, not downloading, to Dropbox. What happens when you use
other browsers? Perhaps the download is timing out because of a
network problem. it may be so slow for so long that it simply stops
as a timeout. You may be able to verify that by checking the
download history, which I'll discuss later if necessary. But first,
what happens with other browsers?

Re: accessible tor version?
Hi David,
Great, I'll have to try this for laughs and giggles.

Got it fixed. I searched and found a bug accessibility thread in tor. After reading all of it's posts they seem to be recommending updating to tor v8.55. The version I had installed was 7.5, and it only updated to 8.3. So I went to the torproject web page and found that version as 9.5. Downloaded it, installed, and it is working great!
Thanks. Dave.

Hello Gene,
I'd say your assessment is right on. I believe I'm seeing the disable accessibility in play. I've tried two screen readers and neither can see the menus. Is there another way I can get at this setting perhaps a commandline option to temporarily give me accessibility support then while in that session turning the setting permanently correct? Or another way?
Thanks. Dave.

I don't know if the browser will work properly when this change is made, but it is based on the Firefox browser and that browser has a setting to disable accessibility. I thought this setting was off and that the current version of Tor is accessible. I remember reading that awhile ago.

Hello,
I'm using jfw 2019 and NVDA 2019 as screen readers. I'm needing to use tor. It does not look like the current version nor the previous one which I have as 7.5.4 is accessible anymore. Is there an accessible version or a fix?
Thanks. Dave.

Re: accessible tor version?
Hi David,
I believe there is a way using the configuration editor. I thought I had an e-mail saved that describes how to do it. I can't find it. Maybe someone else will have the information.
