Olusegun -- Victory Associates LTD, Inc.
Mr. Giovanelli, your question might be better addressed on an Android list.
Please permit me to ask a question, may be two since I'm Oliver Twist!! What make/model is your phone? Do you have the Proximity Sensor turned on? Sorry, I have a third question: What version of Android is your toy running? Ok, I'll run a mile first, and then come back for the answers!! Hopefully, I might be able to help you sort out a few things. Have lots of fun with your new toy and welcome to Androidville if you are new to the land!! Sincerely, Olusegun Denver, Colorado

Phones running Android have a proximity sensor, usually located in the top left corner of the screen. Any time you want to silence TalkBack, just wave your hand over that area and TB should stop. Putting the phone up to your ear should also activate the proximity sensor, although my Pixel 3A does stop after a few more words. You will find a lot of help regarding Android on the ANATAD list, all levels of expertise and a friendly list. A great podcast drops about every week, as well. Hi Terry,
Most of the time, I don’t think it matters. But, I had so much trouble installing Winamp, as a last desperate measure, I did a custom install and it took.
As you will probably find out if you perform a custom install, there are not a lot of steps as compared to Standard. Don’t forget to use classic skins.
I’m afraid that if the current owners of Winamp don’t create a major upgrade, it will be obsolete.

Joe Giovanelli
Hello List,
I'm trying to learn how to use a smart phone. I can use Assistant to dial phone numbers, and that works. Only one thing. Talkback continues to talk while I am on the phone. Is there a way to make that stop? I know that I can call using the Dialer, but would that be any different from what I am experiencing? I can't locate the Dialer. I thank you for any ideas you folks have. Joe Giovanelli, W2PVY

Re: Looking for a talking thermometer
Gerald Levy
I have already checked Amazon, ILA, Maxi-Aids and FutureAids, and none of them have talking clinical thermometers in stock. ILA expects to have them back in stock on March 27. I have the Health Smart DigiScan talking forehead thermometer somebody else previously mentioned, but find that it consistently registers on the low side. My forehead readings are almost always below 98 degrees F, although they are usually a little higher when the probe is inserted into the ear canal. Oral and rectal thermometers are the most accurate, if not necessarily the most sanitary. .

Anyone know where I could find a clinical talking thermometer? I searched Amazon and did not find one except in Spanish. I saw them last week, I guess there is a run on these as well.

JAWS Screen Shade not Working with External Monitor
Debbie April Yuille
Hi All
Has anyone else found that the screen shade feature doesn’t work if you are using a desktop PC with an external monitor? I activate the command and it reports that it’s on but I can see that it isn’t. I’ve changed Monitors and it makes no difference. I’m using the latest builds of both JAWS and windows 10.

Also, if you prefer customization, what differeing choices are you making that I might also want to make?

To be sure, go to www.winamp.com and download the beta which I think is 5.8
Some older versions of Winamp will not work with some Windows10 machine. I'm a witness that this does happen. Don't know why, but the older versions such as 5.72 won't work on a couple of my machines. On 3/15/2020 12:09 PM, TerriLynne Pomeroy wrote:

Re: Do any of the book players record in stereo?

Hi there List, My iPhone 5S came with stereo headphones that also act as a microphone. However, I don’t know if they actually would make a recording be in stereo.
Do you know?
I bought an adapter for them so they will work with my iPhone 8.
Thanks very much!

You can buy stereo microphones that plug into the Lightning port for the iPhone, but the iPhone records in mono from its microphone. My wife’s Samsung A70 records in stereo from its mics though. She records videos of my gigs with it, and they sound really nice.

You may have to play around with the output level a bit before you really get started. I don’t know whether the Microphone Sensitivity setting also works with line in recordings or not. You will get some serious audio compression if the level is too high. Fortunately, you should be able to hear whether that is happening pretty quickly if you listen to it while it’s recording and find a good output level. Evan

Hi Evan. You told me exactly what I wanted to know. My Uncle has a bunch of old classic soul records that he won’t allow to leave his home, so I thought about killing 2 birds with 1 stone and finding a book player that records in stereo so I could read, as well as plug a turntable preamp into his old Pioneer record player and capture a few of these great old records. Thanks.

If you’re talking about microphone only recording, then the Book Sense does not record in stereo. It has only one internal mike. Evan
