Subject: [TechTalk] Outlook 2010 and gmail, and outlook with pgp?

Hello,

I'm trying to get outlook 2010 working with my gmail account. I've got imap enabled on the account, and I know it's working because my phone connects and sends and receives email properly. I configure outlook and gmail per the gmail doc incoming host imap.gmail.com port 993 and ssl, and outgoing host smtp.gmail.com port 587, tls, email address and password where indicated, and that the outgoing server requires authentication and use same settings as incoming server. When I hit test connection I keep getting prompted for my email and password even though I enter the correct information and save password.

Any suggestions welcome.

Also, does outlook 2010 support pgp signing/encryption of email? I've got a pgp keypair and would like to use it to send encrypted email and to sign same?

Thanks.
Dave.

Uninstalling in Win 10 and Win7

Walter Ramage

Hi folks.  Over this weekend I was burning some CDs.  I used Express Burn on a Win10 machine.  I was using the evaluation version of Express Burn.  After burning 4 discs I was asked to purchase a licence.  Now let me move to Win7.  To complete the project I had to use the Express Burn I had on that machine, Win7 that is.  Again this was an evaluation version but all I had to do was go to "change or Remove a Programme", find Express Burn, highlight it then go to the context menu where I found change/uninstall.  When I click on this I get the option to either uninstall or to downgrade to the free version (which I did).

I went back to Win10 and tried the same but rather than "Change or Remove" I found "Add or Remove.  When I highlighted Express Burn and went to the context menu there was only one option, uninstall.

Now I'm new to Win10 and so may not know the correct place to go or the correct procedure.  Can somebody help please.  It might just be though that the option to downgrade to the free version may not be available in Win10, I just don't know.  Walter.

check disk still will not run on startup

joanne

I have been having this annoying problem for weeks and wonder now if I might be better off trying to find some kind of check disk tool if one is available. I schedule it and have used the command prompt at times since I thought that might be even better than going to C drive and properties and scheduling it. Oh I've done that too, by the way, and after numerous normal startups I know it's definitely not checking the disk. I also have it set to repair sectors because I do suspect the hard drive has some sector problems. So it should take a lot longer for the computer to start. But it goes right into a normal boot, and also sfc /scannow won't complete because resource protection won't let it. Please help if you know of any advanced tools or things I can try. Using Jaws 2019 and 2020 and windows 7.

Thank you.

is there a good tutorial for using iTunes for windows with jaws?

joanne

I downloaded Itunes for windows, but to me it looks very inaccessible using Jaws 19 or 20. Has anyone found a tutorial geared more for visually-impaired people regarding how to use this program? I wondered if the Apple version might work better, but I don't know if that original version would work on Windows or not. It's just really hard to find things so if there are possible Jaws scripts or tutorials this would be appreciated.

apparently repairing fixed the issue.

You could repair Office or if it's just Outlook, you can repair it just the
same. Nothing else is coming to me. Steps below.

1. Press your Windows key and type in
Add remove and this will bring up Add or Remove Programs, press enter to
open this up.
2. Now tab down to your various software's for you to begin arrowing until
you highlight/select Microsoft Office.
3. Press Enter to open it and tab to modify where you would then press Enter
once again.
4. The rest I am sure that you will not have any difficulties with.

Hi Monte,

You can adjust what is read for symbols in NVDA's Punctuation / symbol pronunciation dialog.  Press NVDA+n, then P for preferences, then go down from from there.  For each, you can set what is read, "Dot, period, full stop, etc) and at what punctuation level.  So for punctuation level, NVDA can be set to read none, some, most or all.  Whatever you set in the dialog, NVDA will read at that level and higher.  So if you set a symbol to be read at "most".  NVDA will read it when the symbol level is set to most, or to all, but not at some or none.  If you set it to "all" then it will only be read at symbol level all, etc.

Press NVDA+P to adjust the symbol level on the fly.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Re: Using Braille displays on the job?

Michael Mote

I do broadcasting work part-time, and could not do that type of work
without my braille display. I used a Focus classic up until about a
year ago, when I made the switch to the Q Braille. I am trying more
and more to use braille as part of my full-time job. It does really
come in handy, in certain situations, especially when typing on my
iDev ice when I travel for business. Sometimes, I find it faster to
just simply type in information when I am in the office using a
computer, but I do rely a lot on my braille display. I want to
continue to improve using it with my computer, and without speech. I
have a lot of respect for people who do that.

Re: paper-based braille for work and home

Victor

Hi Josh:

Years ago, I used the Juliet braille embosser. I used it because I worked at a radio station and I thought I would need it to read my music logs and things like that. But once I got a refreshable braille display, I no longer needed a braille embosser. In my opinion, it’s better in the long run to just get a braille display as braille paper takes up a lot of room and you will accumulate a lot of it quickly if you use braille a lot. But that’s just my opinion.

HTH,

Victor

Hi,

For those who use braille… What do you use or have used in the past to write braille on paper? I have a slate and stylus and perkins brailler but how many of you use braille embossers or braille printers at work with Duxbury? Or are embossers mostly used by sighted transcribers for embossing textbooks and things? I got an embosser on loan for a bit to try out at home and when the corona-virus stuff is over I will send it back because I discovered by using it that a production embosser that prints books and magazines and stuff is not for me and that my slate and perkins manual brailler are more useful. However I will be upgrading to an electric light-touch perkins brailler soon so I can write braille faster and more comfortably because I am used to the light-touch of braille display and computer keys. I had a braille blazer embosser 20 or so yeara ago in school but did not use it much. I used it more as a speech synthesizer rather than an embosser. I used my braille lite with its 18-cell braille display a lot more, along with the perkins brailler.

I agree. Reading books on the iPhone is very easy. Plus, all of the apps that Marie mentioned are very accessible and user-friendly. I use the focus 40 braille display with my iPhone 11. Braille support is excellent!

Good luck,

Hi,

I have been using an android phone for several years. But now that the new iPhone SE is out I’m thinking of switching to that because voiceover lets me get things done more efficiently and braille display support is much better. Is reading books on iPhone a good experience? Also, the iPhone with voiceover is the only device that supports Japanese 6-dot braille so I could get into studying Japanese language as a hobby if I want.

Hi all,

Yesterday I dropped my second generation Victor stream, and evidently it fell on the front where the buttons are because the very top of it popped up just a bit. It still works although the bookmark button and the button I press to go between the online and offline folders are more imbedded and don't stick up as much because of the way the top popped up, does anybody know if that top may be able to just be pressed down and it'll pop back into place? This is an older machine so the warranty has long since lapsed on it, and since it still works I don't want to put out the money for a new one. If the portion of the top that's now raised a bit can be snapped back down that would be helpful though, I don't want to try it myself without knowing if that might work for fear that I might make things worse.

Thanks.

Troy
