Re: WhatsApp for PC

Timothy Mok

Pretty simple, really. First, I launch my WhatsApp desktop on my PC. On my iPhone, I entered the settings for WhatsApp, then swipe right till I come to WhatsApp Web Desktop, enter that and swipe until I come to "Scan QR code" button. With my back camera facing the monitor from a distance of twelve to fourteen inches, I align my iPhone SE to the bottom left side of the PC monitor. Double-tap on the "Scan QR code" button on the phone and I'm set to go. It's night time here and pitch dark. I find I still can sync my phone with my desktop even with the room light off. By the way, except for Internet Explorer, a check just now showed the WhatsApp Web Desktop worked well with the latest versions of all my other browsers, namely, Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge and even my Avast! Secure Browser which is accessible with JAWS but not NVDA. Hope this helps.
Tim.

On the Win 10 list, a few members reported last week that Windows Security stopped working properly after they installed the latest Windows 10 cumulative update.  This is not the time to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10.  If you encounter a problem and lose speech, you could be totally screwed until the national health crisis has passed and you can find someone to help you fix the mess.

I should add that this update seems to have been released in March so many people may already have it. How many People are reporting problems, I don't know. It isn't clear to me from what I've read. Another article I read a little of says that most Windows users aren't having problems butI don't think the Komando newsletter would write an article about it unless enough are to be worthy of concern.

cisco accessibility for their forums

Marvin Hunkin

Hi. Able to login into the cisco forums. But when I try to post, a topic, they have a stupid select a board link, then a mouse over tree view / combo box. So how to then select that with jaws, or nvda. Not able to post, keeps telling me to select a board to continue.

Any one come across this one and how to fix.

Not able to post a topic. Have tried jaws, nvda, windows narrator, tried chrome, edge, ie, firefox and the same or similar issues when I login. Have notified cisco, and the forums, see if they will fix this issue if not, how to get them to make this more accessible. One of the more serious or poor combo box issues with a form or a forum.

Marvin.

Re: WhatsApp for PC

Timothy Mok

I suspect the issue lies with the browser you are using. I'm using an iPhone SE for scanning the QR code and on a Windows10 using Google Chrome as my primary browser. It's working fine. I used to use WhatsApp Web on my Windows7 desktop on an earlier version of the Firefox ESR version but when they upgraded that ESR version, the Firefox ceased to work with the WhatsApp Web desktop, meaning that I couldn't scan the QR code on Firefox. Switching over to the Chrome browser fixed the problem though. I suggest you try using the Chrome browser and see if it works out for you. JAWS gives you a better experience although NVDA also works just fine.
Tim.

Thanks for getting back to me. I tried a much longer reset to no avail. I have a bad feeling about this one. The only file on the root is the firmware update clpza.bin, Version 1.21. The Clip says "updating firmware" for about half a beat, and then immediately says "file not found," when the file is present after I disconnect the clip from the computer. Trying to boot while holding the previous track side of the control pad does nothing. I even ran the Rockbox Utility on it, and the Rockbox installer said that it was patching the firmware, and installed lickity split, but still no change when I restarted the clip. I think I will admit defeat and give it back to the owner. She told me that it was broken when she brought it over, and she was not kidding. I appreciate your help though. Thanks, and stay well.

A reset takes 30 slowly counted seconds; if you do less than that it doesn't reset the hardware like a reset is supposed to do.

My wife read the screen for me and it says "file not found, plug into
USB. When I hold down the rewind button and power the unit on, it
doesn't attempt to boot into the original firmware, it continues to
say "file not found, plug into USB." When I plug the unit into my PC, the screen says "USB mode."
Can a Clip Zip be factory reset? Resetting by holding the power
button for
15 seconds causes no change. Any thoughts?

please reply on list because in my 200-home community I am looked upon as someone who can help the seniors here who just cannot easily do what we do on our computers, and though blind, that sure don't stop me, it energizes me into action to help. So, please share your suggestions; also how these devices could interact with on-line services such as Zoom and Teamtalk, etc.

HI all, seniors on my support call asked for an accessible CD player.  I know most people these days play media from thumb drives or stream it.  CD’s and DVD’s are usually played on home sound systems, computers, or car stereos.  These seniors would like a standalone player.
There once was a talking DVD player, does anyone know if it is still sold? Do you have  any suggestions for a self-contained accessible CD player or a DVD player?  Preferably a simple device with distinct buttons, will play audio CD’s, CD or DVD media with mp3 audio format.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Be well.
