Re: Outlook read reciept question

Hi all,

I've always thought the Read Receipt was an option that fed one's conceit. If you get an answer, obviously the person has read your message. Now, if the message was timely, or an emergency, maybe, but I think the whole thing is a bunch of bunk!

I'm wondering, is there a way to set Outlook so that it asks me if I want to
request that the person send a read receipt everytime before I send the
email? I have the box in settings checked, and there are times where I want
one, but there are other times where I'm thinking that the person just sends

Not to mention the fact that most people will just get annoyed and delete
the message before reading it That and high importance don't fly with me,
unless you're my boss do not send me a message flagged as important. I have
a plug-in that puts these messages at the bottom of the list.

PDF conversions

Damien Garwood <damien@...>

Hey all,
Have any of you had the joys of converting a PDF that contains tables into plaintext? If so, do you get the strange anomaly whereby the table seems to be inverted and spread out on multiple lines?
I'm using EdSharp, which I believe uses either PDFToText, or GetText with the PDF2TXT extension. I'm not sure if it's the one converter I'm using that's faulty, or whether the formatting is bad. Since it's happening with every PDF, I'm inclined to assume it's the converter.
Does anyone know, either:
1. How I can restore the output to some resemblance of what it should actually be, or
2. of a decent PDF to text (or even better, PDF to HTML) converter?
Cheers.
Damien.

Re: Problem with correct email address in Outlook 2013.

Once you the user, clears that as an option, all of those addresses that you
used to have before you selectively chose to clear, are no longer available
until you the user uses Outlook and as time goes by, will re-enter such
addresses within this autofill option as you personally use them and this is
going to take time. Unless it's actually possible to unclear within Options
which I would find hard to believe because of Outlook actually asking within
a dialogue if you are sure which needs to be okayed by you before the
removing of these addresses begins.

For any message received that includes a read receipt request:

Use Windows Defender Offline to remove tenacious viruses

Geoff Eden

Use Windows Defender Offline to remove tenacious viruses

Although Windows 10 comes with the Windows Defender Antivirus to protect your device and data from unwanted malware, it's still possible for specially crafted malicious code to install itself and rapidly take control and cause irreversible damage.

This isn't a problem with the built-in antivirus, as it could happen with any security solution, even when running the latest update. However, if you come across a threat that's hard to find and remove, you can use the "Windows Defender Offline." The offline option is an antimalware scanning tool that can help you to scan the system to detect and remove most malware, such as viruses and rootkits when Windows 10 isn't running.

In this Windows 10 guide, we'll walk you through the steps to perform an offline malware scan using the Windows Defender Antivirus tool.

How to use Windows Defender Offline using Windows Security

To scan and remove viruses with Windows Defender Offline, use these steps:

  1. Open Start.
  2. Search for Windows Security and click the top result to open the app.
  3. Click on Virus & thread protection.

4.      Under the "Current threats" section, click the Scan options link.

5.      Select the Windows Defender Offline scan option.

Save any work that you may have open (if applicable).

  1. Click the Scan button.

Once you complete the steps, the device will restart automatically, and Windows Defender Offline will start its automated scan and deletion process of malware without the need for user interaction.

If you're stuck in the "Windows Defender Antivirus" loading screen for a while, it's normal behavior. After a few minutes, the screen will change to a Command Prompt interface labeled "Your PC is being scanned," and it'll show you the start time, number of scanned files, and percent complete. Then you'll see an empty blue screen for a few moments, and then the device will restart automatically.

In the case that you see a blue screen of death (BSoD) during the scan process, restart the computer and try to run the Windows Defender Offline scan one more time.

See scan results

After the scan is complete, you can find the scan results using these steps:

  1. Open Start.
  2. Search for Windows Security and click the top result to open the app.
  3. Click on Virus & thread protection.

4.      Under the "Current threats" section, click the Protection history link.

5.      Confirm the scan actions and recommendations (if available).

If security tool is unable to detect any malware, you won't see any history entries.

We're using the Windows Defender reference, but starting with the May 2020 Update, the security service is known as "Microsoft Defender Offline."

In the past, Microsoft had a tool, which you were able to download to create a bootable media to perform a virus scan offline on Windows 10. However, it's not an option anymore for Windows 10 devices, but you can still download it for Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 devices.

Help needed with Thunderbird

Nancy Hill

Recently I have had to try and rebuild my win10 laptop.  So, win10, jfw20 and Thunderbird were put back on my laptop, but they still need work.

As of now I think I would enjoy getting TB back in order first.

1. When I open an email, read through it and close the email, many times TB goes back to the desktop and I have to totally reenter TB.  Ideas on correcting that 'condition' would be appreciated.

2. There are numbers of security warnings on mostly totally familiar. emails.

Please remind me where to go and what to do to loosen up TB security.

3. I am being driven wonkers by getting a verbal notice every time I get an email.  Please remind me where I can go to correct that.

I do appreciate your time and efforts in helping me to get Thunderbird back in Top Flight shape.

Thankfully,

Nancy

Corded keyboards?

Vicky Vaughan

Does anyone have a corded keyboard that works with an iPhone 8 that they would recommend?

I would like to be able to just plug it in and begin typing and have it show up on the iPhone.  No connecting or configuring to do each time I want to use it.

Of course, all advertising tries to make their item sound like the ultimate item, and so that’s why I am asking for your recommendations with what you like about your particular keyboard.

Thank you very much for any suggestions!

Sincerely, Vicky V

You'll get several links to follow, and this is something you'll want to read since there's many answers.  Personally I haven't run into anything on Amazon stating the K380 is wifi capable when buying the 2 I've purchased.
