What is the website for the youtube-dl file?

Questions: Two iPhones and Hot Spots

Ron Canazzi

Hi Group,

In May, I couldn't resist buying the second generation iPhone SE for the relatively low price of $400 US.  I already had an iPhone 8 from a few years ago.  I then cloned the data from the iPhone 8 to the new iPhone and have virtually identical iPhones with respect to data.  I only have a SIM card in the older iPhone 8.  When I am on the road in a vehicle or otherwise, I take the iPhone 8 with me.

The iPhone 8 has an account with Spectrum for their $14 for 1 GB data plus unlimited talk and text monthly.

I notice that when I am on the orad and I want to use the iPhone 8 for data--such as listening to a radio station, when I check to see what I am hooked up to for Internet, it says: 'Ron's iPhone: hot spot.  I have cellular data turned off on the iPhone 8 and I have the iPhone second generation SE turned on and connected to my high speed home network via WIFI.

I no longer see an increase in data for my Spectrum account.  It is as if somehow, the newer iPhone is acting as a hot spot and is using my WIFI for Internet access and is transferring this information--somehow--to my iPhone 8 when I am on the road.

My questions are: first, am I right about this?  Is my new iPhone acting as a hot spot and bypassing any need for a remote cellular data path or public WIFI?  And if so, what network or method is the newer iPhone using to accomplish this?  I haven't tried it when traveling very far from home, but I have been about 5 miles away when I have experienced this behavior.

Any explanation would be greatly appreciated.

I just tried with the current version of the program and it downloaded properly. I don't know what happened, but evidently for some reason, 2x or older doesn't download now. I have no idea if this will change in future. I'm not sure why the person is having a problem. It may be necessary to completely remove the 2x version before installing the new one. Installing over the old program may cause the problem in the new version.

Regarding JAVA, I don't know why this problem exists when you update JAVA. It doesn't use the JAVA on your machine, if you have JAVA separately installed. It installs its own JAVA just for use with that program. It says so somewhere on the site and also, this computer has no other JAVA than that installed in the program itself. So if your solution solves your problem and others, that's good but you don't have to install JAVA separately if it isn'rt already there.

Hi, I know someone on the windows 10 and jaws list has done allot of text tutorials for all sorts of things in windows 10. I'm not totally sure where they are stored because I got them as they were posted to the list. These are all free we just need to find out where they are.

I'll see what I can do but hopefully someone else on this list already know where to get them from.

Subject: [TechTalk] My Note to the Blind Trainers Mailing List Regarding the Need for Training Materials For New or inexperienced Users

One of the mailing lists to which I'm subscribed is for trainers who provide technology training to the visually impaired. Truth be told I haven't done regular formal training in over four years but I do provide training and assistance to friends and I regularly help out on various lists and other forums where I can. Anyway, I posted the following message to that list regarding what I think is a real need for good, comprehensive training products for users who are either new or inexperienced with Windows. There is a surprisingly small amount of such products and I feel that it's time for that to change. Please consider reading the below message and let me know what you honestly think, even if you feel that there really isn't the need for this sort of material.
Here is what I posted.

Hello. I am working with a couple of friends who are new or at least inexperienced in using Windows 10 with a screen reader. One user has not used a Windows computer in quite some time and so she would need a tutorial to guide her not only with introducing her to a screen reader but to the Windows operating system itself. In the early days of Windows
3.1 and the Windows 95/98 era there were a few such products in existence. I am honestly amazed at how few of these tutorials are actually available today covering the use of Windows 10 from the perspective of a very new visually impaired user. I realize that there is no shortage of competent trainers but some users may not be able to afford the services of one on one training. However, they might be willing to purchase a prepackaged tutorial. I realize that there are perhaps many challenges to a one size fits all approach and some might very correctly argue that having customized one on one training is ultimately better for the user since the trainer can more easily adapt to the needs and learning style of the user. This is certainly a valid point and one which I would not debate. However, I have fond memories of some very good training materials from some very talented trainers. The "Speaking Of" series from Krista Earl comes to mind and I had the opportunity to meet Krista about four years ago and I wasted no time in telling her that this new generation of computer users needs her talents. Braille tutorials would also be nice and would be very inclusive for those who are deaf-blind. I'd love to produce one myself but I not only detest the sound of my own voice but I'm a bit of a newcomer myself when it comes to audio production.

I guess that I'll finish up with two questions. First, what tutorials are currently available covering Windows 10 from the perspective of a total novice? Second, have any of you considered producing one? I can almost guarantee that you'd find that many people would gladly purchase it. I realize the irony of the catch 22 situation where promoting such a product on the Web might not actually reach the very people being targeted since many of them aren't savvy when it comes to Web navigation. To that objection I offer the following responses for your consideration.

First, if your tutorial or tutorials are thorough many people who are already online might still purchase them if they feel that they will be able to learn even more or to perhaps fill in any missing gaps in their knowledge. For that matter I'd likely purchase it myself if I knew it would be comprehensive even though I've been using Windows competently since the Windows 3.1 days as there are always new things I know I could learn or perhaps more efficient methods of performing certain tasks that I already perform. I acknowledge that I'm good at what I do but I also acknowledge that I don't know everything.

Second, people like me or others in the assistive technology field would surely be happy to promote anyone's product if it's good, presented well and if it's comprehensive and user friendly.

Third, you could always advertise in periodicals such as the Braille Forum or the Braille Monitor which reaches a very wide and diverse audience. You could ask an organization like Computers for the Blind to mention you as a potential resource by including your information along with every computer they sell. In fact, you could create a mini tutorial for free and ask if they'd be willing to distribute it with their computers and the tutorial could mention a more complete package with your company's contact information.

I'd welcome your input on this topic. I think there is a real need for good, comprehensive training materials either in Braille, in an audio format or, ideally, both. I will likely attempt to do this myself but in my case it's likely going to take a bit of time.

Re: Pontes Media Downloader Seems to Be Broken

Hi Group,

I had a problem a few days or so ago.  That was when my JAVA program updated.  When this happens, almost every time, I must uninstall and reinstall Pontes.

My opinion is that there are two reasons for the Pontes program malfunctioning from time to time.  The first is the aforementioned Youtube update itself which is their apparently vein attempt to thwart downloads.  The other reason is the one I just stated concerning JAVA.

A few weeks ago, Pontes was broken because of what Youtube itself did.  A few days ago, I experienced the issue and it was shortly after JAVA updated.  I uninstalled and reinstalled and now it works--even just five minutes ago: this writing.

Hey Guys,

A while back, some people here seemed to be having problems with their Pontes Media Downloader while mine was working fine.

Unfortunately, recently though, I cannot download anything with it.

I originally had version 2.1. When I tried downloading with that, it would play the downloading sound effect, then a short time later it would play the sound when downloading was finished. So I went and looked in the Pontes Media Downloader folder but nothing was there. I first tried updating the download engine, but it told me that it couldn’t find current version.

Then, I installed version 3.1. I tried downloading some things with that. It would play the sound when a download started, then just do nothing after that. I looked at the menus, and it told me that control-d, the key combo for downloading was unavailable. I waited a bit longer, but nothing appeared in the default folder, which I have not changed.

I then went into Options and updated the download engine, but it told me that the engine was up to date and gave me an Okay button I had to press.

I’m still unable to download anything with it. I did clear out the Pontes Media Downloader folder because someone here mentioned that they had some trouble when more than a dozen or so files were in that. Nothing is in it now, but still no ability to download.

Any ideas what else I can try?

Oh, I’m using Windows 7, and was using an older version of PMD with that until a few weeks ago.

Thanks for any ideas.

Evan

As implied in mhy last answer, getting a pair of speakers where the wires

Well, I am thinking after all my testing that one of my speakers has a short in it! So has anyone heard of a set of speakers that does not rely on a cable to connect the other speaker. That one has to rely on a connecting cable to pare both speakers? I refuse to buy a set of speakers where one always has a connecting wire to it, rather just have one that allows one to connect both speakers manually! My speaker with the wire is the one with the short. I had to reconnect the speakers to the pc with a different audio cable to figure out it was not the audio sound card. I am not very technical about what you would call a set of speakers connected by a cable instead of one speaker having a wire that connect to the other speaker. I want to avoid this issue if the one with the wire has the short again! I only had these speakers for 5 years, my others lasted 10 years and I actually gave them to someone when I moved! Thanks Heather

Oh, I’m using Windows 7, and was using an older version of PMD with that until a few weeks ago.

Thanks for any ideas.

Dear Evan,

Try to uninstall the program, restart the PC AND TRY REINSTALLING IT AGAIN.

Hope it helps.

Subject: [TechTalk] Pontes Media Downloader Seems to Be Broken

Peovlwm Qirh TWBlu

Sent from my iPhoneAbout a year ago, when I logged into my Twitter account with TWBlu, it seems that all my contacts and many of my messages were deleted.

Since I bought a new laptop, I logged into Twitter using TWBlu and, sure enough, most everything is gone.

I did try and send a message to someone named Alex and it wound up sending the tweet to a Patrick.

Does anybody have any idea how to fix this? If I log into Twitter on my iPhone everything is as it should be.

Thanks for any ideas and I know this is a crazy story.
