I don't know what the searchwords would be, but I'll bet a good bunch of bananas that you will find this cable on amazon or cables to go, possibly bestbuy.

Hi Group,

I have a Victor Reader Second Generation Stream. I have lost the smaller of the two cables the one with the male USB micro connector and the female jack for inserting a USB Drive.

Are these devices commonly available on Amazon or some other site or do you have to get them from the over priced Humanware company itself?

Thanks for any help.

I do not remember which list it was on, but I think David Moore has produced
several text-based files on using win10.
I recall he posted thme to a list in a zip file on dropbox.
Maybe this will jog someone's memory.

What screen-reader is being used? It isn't free, but the NVDA
training materials you purchase from NVDA developers may teach at
least something of Windows 10. Also, have you checked to see what Hadley

I found this link by the AFB:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKtAyaZhUhw ANd for office 2016
American foundation of the blind
If you put jaws, nvda, narrator, accessibility and than put
free tutorials for learning Win10 in youtube, videos do come up!

You can even include just the windows10 start menu in the mix, videos will come up. If you have a youtube to mp3 comverter, you can organize them for the needs of that student.

I think CathyAnne Murtha is still teaching a free windows 10 course or if not, I do not think it cost that much; she uses the zoom platform!

Cheers Heather

WordPress Guides for Blind Developers

Joe Orozco

Hi,

Can anyone point me to accessible guides for learning WordPress? I
have a hosted site, not on WordPress.com. I’ve already started adding
some pages and have downloaded some plugins to get going; however, I
know I could be a lot more proficient with some of the settings and
menus. I’m slowly moving over from Drupal, and although some of the
tasks are more intuitive, there is enough of a learning curve to make
me feel slow. I’m going to make my way through the standard WordPress
manual but just wondered if there were any guides written from the
perspective of a blind developer. I’m on the latest build of WordPress
5. Thanks for any help.

Alexa App For iPhone Now Requires CAPTCHA for Log-in

Ron Canazzi

Hi Group,

I had to make a change in the Alexa App this morning.  When I tried logging in, I was presented with a captcha request. There is an audio challenge, but it is garbled and I can't hear it well enough or type it quick enough to log in.

How has anyone else dealt with this issue?  I have already complained to the Amazon Disability line and asked that in future releases of the app that this 2 level authentication be made optional upon installation.

Re: using FiiO E10K USB DAC

Gene

It may be that some sound cards process sound even if they are just plug and play, based on your experience. I'm glad you solved your problem and I may have been wrong about no processing occurring in any sound cards that are plug and play.

But they are so much cheaper and I have never heard of this problem before so I conclude that there are a lot of sound cards that don't. I would still advise trying the much less expensive solution of a sound card first.

I did get a response from the store who told me about FiiO E10K USB DAC.

So if anyone plans on buying one here is what they said.

“Hello, We do not have experience with assistive technology but we will attempt to describe the functions of your FiiO E10K. On one side, you have the volume knob and 3.5mm output for connecting to headphones. There is a toggle switch between the volume knob and 3.5mm jack. This is for bass boost; the switch is off when toggled toward the 3.5mm jack. When toggled toward the volume knob, bass boost is on. On the other side of the E10K are the USB port, 3.5mm line out for speakers, coaxial digital output, and a gain toggle switch. The toggle switch is between the coaxial jack, a circular protrusion, and the 3.5mm line out jack, an almost flush small circular hole. Low gain is toward the coaxial jack side, while high gain is toggle toward the 3.5mm jack.

The E10K is powered by the USB connection and adheres to USB power standards. Even if the unit is plugged into a laptop, the laptop will supply power via USB.”

So far it is working like a charm with the speakers! There is no distortion from the sound.

Cheers Heather

Well, so far this seems to be working with my desktop. The speech is not getting loud and quiet, thank god!

I have been playing with it for about an hour and I just received it this morning.

I was wondering if someone who has this

DAC can explain all the features in English for dummies.

I tried to e-mail the company and have not received a response.

I have connected to the usb port, the 3.0 usb port off the back of the desktop.

It has a knob that turns it own and the bose speakers are plugged in to the 3.5 jack off the back of the DAC, well not sure wich is the back and the front but, they are plugged in to the same side as the usb connection is on.

Their is a switch, not sure what it does, something about high gain mode and not sure what it is on.

It has 2 channels according to what I was reading off the settings for the

DAC.

It can put out adobe digital sound and microsoft sound and one other sound that was not checked.

Not sure what I should have it on for share mode it had seven settings to choose from.

So any help would be much appreciated.

Thank everyone for all the tips and help in my jerney.

Cheers Heather
