Hi Ron,

you have to hold the Home key down until you hear a sound indicator, then ask Siri your query.  Usually you only have to hold the Home key down for a second or 2.

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.

Hi Group,

first of all, I was very afraid of the iPhone and although I saw its
power, I was very reticent to get one. Finally I got one and despite
all my fears, I was able to master the touch gestures and VoiceOver
navigation techniques with relative ease. Long story short: I almost
never use Siri. I wanted to find out some trivia information earlier
today and I pressed the home key and said: 'Hey Siri: What President's
last name ends with the letter 'T?' There was no answer. I tried it
again. I tried asking simpler questions--still no go. I turned off
VoiceOver. I went to settings/Siri and Search and everything was
supposedly enabled.

Maybe she's mad at me for ignoring her for over a year. I joke, but
seriously, what could have happened that she doesn't respond at all?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
You probably need to go into Siri’s settings and switch the voice from the American female to either the American male or one of the other English voices. There seems to be a bug right now keeping the American female Siri voice from speaking results. Once you hear the beeps indicating that Siri has heard you, you should be able to find the results on screen using explore by touch.

Ron, if you press the Home Button, you should hear a ding, then you ask Siri. Otherwise, you need to go to Settings, to Siri, and set Hay Siri. It's not hard to set it. The advantage of Hay Siri, is, say you've fallen, need to call 911, you can say, Hay Siri, call 911, and Siri will. You can say Hay Siri, where'e my iPhone, and Siri will talk, and you can hear the direction of your phone. You can be eating a hot dog and say Hay Siri, what's the temperature, and Siri will tell you, and you don't have to put greasy hands on your phone's screen. You can be finishing eating, and say, Hay Siri, call Yellow Cab, and Siri can do that for you. HTH.

ports on mother board for connecting SATA drives

Fanus

Hello list
Is a specific SATA port selected for a specific drive when installing
Windows? A few weeks ago I cloned my hard drive with Casper software. At
that time my c-drive was connected to the upper right SATA port and the
cloned drive was connected to the lower right port. Due to a stupidity I
damaged the port of my C-hard drive. I unplugged it and the cloned drive
booted correctly. I now want to clone that drive but for some reason when I
plug a newly formatted drive into any of the other SATA ports the pc does
not "see" it. When I unplug the previously cloned drive and move it to the
upper right port the pc does not want to boot, i.e. the pc only boots when
the previously cloned drive is in the lower right port where it was during
the clone, hence my question if a drive is allocated to a specific port?
When I put the newly formatted drive into an external drive bay the pc
"sees" the drive and it works perfectly. Can anyone please learn me how this
works?
Regards
Fanus

Hi Rich,

For Windows 10 1909, 18363.900, try the following:
1. Press, Windows key + I, for settings, tab 1 time to, System, press the, End key, to take you to, Update and Security, and press enter.
2. Tab 1 time into the list, down arrow to, Windows Security, and press enter.
3. Tab 2 times to the, Virus and threat protection button, and press enter.
4. Tab to the, Virus and threat protection manage settings link, and press enter.
5. You should be on, Real Time protection, press the spacebar to uncheck this, that's it.

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.

Also, I just tried using the 3.1 version of Pontes Media Downloader. It
downloaded the file but it didn't convert it and it didn't know when it had
finished. Looking around at information there is an error notice.
Evidently, the program can download the original m4a file but it can't
convert it. If you press enter. it may play in Windows Media Player. If
not, set the file type to play in that player unless you want to use another
player.

Hay, now my teacher is using

animations that have audio. Pontes Media Downloader is not picking these up.
Is there another way? They call them info graphics. I have the link for
coping with stress. I thought it would grab it like the other videos.

There are times when sites are set up in such a way that you can't get the file or it is a lot of work and not at all certain you can find out how. I would suggest you learn how to use a program like Virtual Recorder to reccord the audio while the file plays. If you are interested, I'll discuss the subject further.

Re: wifi boosters?

Troy Burnham

I don't know what router I have, just that my cable company is Spectrum and I think they provided the router.

I'm only using voice, no video and it's only voice that drops. I can't hear them, and I assume they can't hear me although since I can't hear them I've never tried to see if they can hear me or not.

The team talk server I'm connecting to is on the net, it's part of out-of-sight.net.

The wall between me and the router when I'm outside is mostly brick, there is a big window nearby but we keep a metal hurricane shutter pulled down over it.

I've never checked the number of bars I have, but inside I have 3 wifi bars and when I have checked the bars for my wifi connection I usually have 1 or 2.

Voice communications are not as demanding on bandwidth as some might think but you do have to have a completely solid connection to make it work.

Thanks.

I know that when I leave the house, once I get out of range of my wifi the cell connection takes over. I've never tried chatting on the cell connection, not recently anyway, so I don't know if I have the same problem then or not. I'll be chatting on team talk tomorrow morning so I will switch over to the cell connection and see if that helps.

Dual boot WinXP and Win10 #a11y

sergiawstu@...

I'm planning to dual boot Windows XP and Windows 10. My computer would be compatible with XP but there are an exception, my SATA Hard Disk. I found in a Spanish page an unattended Windows XP which don't have any drivers. I collected all realtec audio driver inf files and SATA drivers, but NLite don't allow me to use it, gives me some errors and apparently don't show me any window to search the folder of the drivers. I see another possibility, use a Talking Preinstallation Environment. I read in this group that there were a Windows XP Talking Preinstallation Environment and a Windows 7 Talking Preinstallation Environment, but that link don't work. What TWPE can I use to install Windows XP without problems? Before installing it, I will Install Windows 10 in another partition.

Re: wifi boosters?

You say it’s the only time you have this problem. It is the only time your connection slows enough to cause problems with this activity. Other activities you do evidently don't require as much speed and the farther away you get from the radio signal of the router, the more the speed slows down.

I doubt the behavior is different from other peoples regarding routers. It might save you a lot of time and inconvenience if you ask about things before doing something like changing a router. I suspect that others would tell you that you are doing one of the most demanding things on speed when you use such a service, carrying audio and video in two directions in real time.

Re: wifi boosters?

Hi Troy,
I would recommend a Wi-Fi extender. This will allow your Wi-Fi to be pushed out farther. As for brands I’m not sure.
Hope this helps,
