SpreadTrum USB Android driver

Fanus

Hello list
A friend obtained a Mobicel Android phone and installed the Accessibility
suite which works fine. The Win10 pc does not "see" the phone when plugged
into the USB port. We switched permissions etc. on. The support people says
we need SpreadTrum USB drivers. I did a google search and downloaded the
driver from 3 different sites but twice I got a "not digitally signed"
message and the third install just says there were errors. Does anyone know
about this driver and if so, where could I obtaine one which will install?

Re: How to get into CMOS with speech access

The answer to your question is, unfortunately, no. Many years ago--probably about twenty-five by now--somebody came up with a program that somehow got access to UEFI, but then the whole concept of access to BIOS and UEFI jut evaporated. Bottom line, as I said at the beginning of this message, the answer is still unfortunately no.

Re: Newline talking bathroom scale help needed

Steve Matzura

I think the solution is the obvious one--time for a new scale. :-) I just bought one for mostly the same reason. The one we had bombed out on us many many years ago. I alsoneed one with a large-print bright display, so I tried this one from a company of which I'd not heard before. It was cheap enough, I don't need all the extra measurement capacity, but the big bright display is a must for my wife, and the talking part is good for me.

On 7/13/2020 8:23 PM, Geoff Eden wrote:
An interesting line of discussion, as I purchased my scale three or four years ago, and initially it operated as expected.

However now, when it tells me to step on the scale, I do, and it continuously reports "standstill". On one occasion after about 15 seconds of this, it gave me a reading. Subsequently, no reading and just the instruction.

I replaced the battery's, and nothing has improved. Very disappointing, indeed.

If you hit upon a solution, please share it.

I'm beginning to think that there's something wrong with the scale I

I'll call amazon and see if they'll send me a replacement scale.

Hi all,

Eeyore, your attitude is just why we, the blind, have had such an abismal track record when it comes to unemployment. People won't hire someone if they don't have experience, but you can't get experience if you aren't hired. The only way to "prove" a track record is to use the company.

I do wish you'd quit saying "obscure company", Eeyore. It is only obscure to you and to others who live in the U.S. It may be quite well known in France and surrounding countries.

The Oden phone had financial difficulties and I don't know about the Lucia phone, but if Americans don't see potential in any companies except American ones, that's a shame. People in other parts of the world do manufacture good things. They run financially viable companies, they have market share which you, in your insular attitude have no notion of.

*Any* product may have problems, especially one that is fairly new. The Orbit Reader started out with some difficulties with its dots. That problem has been fixed. I will say that if one pays attention to only lists, all you will hear is bad news. People don't write about good experiences. So, give it a rest Eeyore, please?

So your BlindShell phone started having problems after only two months? How easy was it to get a replacement? Did you have to send the phone back directly to the manufacturer in the Czech Republic? Or did the merchant you bought it from handle the replacement? I hate to say I told you so, but I warned potential customers of this phone that buying a cell phone made by an overseas manufacturer with an unproven track record could be problematic. This is what killed the Lucia and Odin Mobile phones: they were made by obscure, overseas companies with no service facilities in theUS, and when they went belly-up due to poor sales, their customers got stuck with expensive paperweights. And although IRIE promises excellent customer service, for the Smart Vision, the fact of the matter is that they are a distributor, not a manufacturer, which means that if you have trouble with your Smart Vision phone and return it to them for repair, they, in turn, may have to send it back to the manufacturer, Kapsys, which could be very time consuming, or else order parts from Kapsys to repair it themselves, which would also be time consuming. And with the pandemic raging out of control in many parts of the country, the last thing you want to do right now is to stand on line at your local post office to send a broken cell phone back to the merchant or manufacturer. Someone commented that they were extremely satisfied with their Kapsys Captain GPS device. However, I recall that when it was first introduced, it was reviewed by AFB Access World and found to be highly inaccurate, and it disappeared from the market within six months, never to be heard about again. This seems to be a common fate for many specialized products for the blind that are either poorly designed or else are too expensive for the average blind consumer. I apologize for coming across as "negative", but blind consumers should be aware of the pitfalls of buying expensive products especially designed for the blind made by companies with poor or unproven track records in the US. A major reason why the IPhone has become so popular with many blind consumers is that it is made by a large, mainstream manufacturer which has stores, distributors and facilities all over the US, so that it is easy to get it serviced without having to jump through hoops.

Hi group,

I recently upgraded Windows 10 version 1903 to Windows 10version 1909. Everything seemed to go just fine and everything works great with speech and NVDA. However when I boot the system, I get a message as follows:
Windows cannot find the AMD Radiant Graphics device or the driver for this device is malfunctioning. Please install the proper drivers for this device." Now before the upgrade, when I looked at the system tray, there indeed was an icon called Radiant graphics manager. Now when I look at the system tray, there is an icon called Intel registered HD graphics.

I went to the radiant website and downloaded a package of drivers and did an install. Now the installation software was not that accessible.
I clicked on a button during the early stages of the installation that I thought might be the install button. After a minute or so, the window closed with no verbal indication of any kind. But when I boot the system, I still get the error about the radiant graphics device.

A long time ago, the late great Carlos who founded the Tech Talk mailing list gave a detailed description as to how to troubleshoot such issues. I cannot find the e-mail he sent years ago.

Can anyone help me with this issue? Thanks in advance.

My drive loses connection from my wifi network on a frequent basis. Last
night I reset it and I could connect. After about 20 minutes when I wanted

couldn't connect and even after a reset I can not get into the drive dash
board. I did ask for help on the site but I got no answer but after a week I
got an email asking to evaluate their service but I could not get to the
survey. Would it perhaps better to make the DHCP static or won't that solve
the problem?

I guess the contacts downloaded from the convention app are viewed as
a separate group in the contacts on your phone. There is probably a
setting in your phone to migrate them over to your regular contact
list. As far as the exhibitors contact info there really doesn't seem
to be a way to save them like that of individuals. Some exhibitors
have downloadable pdf's at the bottom of their contact info but I do
not know what those contain. If you were on your computer using the
website you could cut and paste the contact info easily to a document
but on the phone it is more cumbersome. It's a shame that feature was
not implemented.

I'm going to list the steps I took and see if it's the info you're
looking for, if not let me know: I went to the attendee list, found a
friend and clicked on their name. I then clicked on add them as a
contact. I believe the friend then has to go into the menu on the main
page where you look at your notifications but their is also a button
that says contacts. Once they go into contacts they will see all
people who have requested them as contacts and they have to confirm
them. In this same Contact list there is an export button at the top.
once you select it, you can then click on some or all of the names to
export to your phone's contact list. This is all I did but I believe
the key here is that the person has to confirm your request before
their info can be downloaded off the app. Hope this helps.

your friend accidentally put their last name first or mistyped it

I've played around with it so if you have a specific question
maybe
I
can help. When you first download it, you type in nfb2020 in
the
search (keeping in mind it is lower case and all one word)
then
in
the
event ID you type nfb2020 in again. It will ask you to enter
the
info
you registered for the convention with (I don't remember if
you
can
look at it without at least entering some info) then it will
take
you
to your profile screen. You can enter as much or as little as
you
want
others to see (or none at all). The info for the convention is
very
accessible. When you are in the schedule of events, if you
double
tap
on an event you are interested in, it has a Zoom link to that
event,

a
description of it and you can set a reminder for that event
and
even
add it to a schedule of things you want to attend. Like I said
it
is
one of the most accessible event apps I've come across.

You can also use the website for the event :
event.CrowdCompass.com/nfb20

It isn't a link. Place it in the address bar of your browser, not in the run dialog. The address has no http:// nor www. It could be either http://www. or just http. Whatever the case, your browser will probably go to the page. it will try to do so even with the lack of the prefix.

The run dialog has no way of knowing what you are looking for, a file, an address, something else.

In the app, below the Agenda and Sponsors you will find the
Exhibitors
button. That will take you to an alphabetical list of the
exhibitors.
Was that what you were asking?

Event password: nfb2020

Issue With AMD Radiant Graphic/Display Settings With Windows 10 Upgrade

Ron Canazzi

I'm not sure how often the attendee list is updated on the app. For
instance, if the list is updated hourly or daily, maybe your friend
was not in the list right away. Also, the list is by last name but if
your friend accidentally put their last name first or mistyped it
then
it will be hard to find. I found yours and my name easily. If you
want, I can help look for your friend's name in the attendee list.
The
section index on the right side of the iPhone screen makes it
somewhat
quicker to scroll through.

https://zoom.us/test

If the window opens properlyafter you press the join button, tab around and
see what you see. Use join with audio if that is the only thihng that
applies. Then tab around again. You will probably see a way to test your
audio and your microphone. The audio test may start by itself after you
join with audio.
To test with the microphone, press the button that applies with the space

should hear yourself shortly after you stop talking.

You can probably tab around the interface as well and see the things I

there is some sort of way to get into a test site run by Zoom. I tried it
months ago and you can test your audio level and microphone level. I may be
able to find the page if no one knows it. If you test the microphone and
hear no audio, that doesn't necessarily mean your microphone isn't working.
You may need to change the source in volume control so the Microphone audio

Here is the link for the test meeting. If you have problems, let us know.
https://zoom.us/test

If the window opens properlyafter you press the join button, tab around and
see what you see. Use join with audio if that is the only thihng that
applies. Then tab around again. You will probably see a way to test your
audio and your microphone. The audio test may start by itself after you
join with audio.
To test with the microphone, press the button that applies with the space
bar, talk for a few seconds then stop. If things are working well, you
should hear yourself shortly after you stop talking.

You can probably tab around the interface as well and see the things I
discussed earlier or if you are using a tutorial, see the things discussed
in it.

there is some sort of way to get into a test site run by Zoom. I tried it
months ago and you can test your audio level and microphone level. I may be
able to find the page if no one knows it. If you test the microphone and
hear no audio, that doesn't necessarily mean your microphone isn't working.
You may need to change the source in volume control so the Microphone audio
is sent to Zoom.

Thanks to everyone who replied. There's possible good news. I found my
microphone. It's been there for ages and I have never used it. I may
have gotten it with the XP machine. Is there any way of testing it
somewhere before the workshop so I can tell them if I need the landline?

The
section index on the right side of the iPhone screen makes it
somewhat
quicker to scroll through.

exhibitors.
Was that what you were asking?

Re: Newline talking bathroom scale help needed

Geoff Eden

An interesting line of discussion, as I purchased my scale three or four years ago, and initially it operated as expected.

However now, when it tells me to step on the scale, I do, and it continuously reports "standstill". On one occasion after about 15 seconds of this, it gave me a reading. Subsequently, no reading and just the instruction.

I replaced the battery's, and nothing has improved. Very disappointing, indeed.

If you hit upon a solution, please share it.

I'm beginning to think that there's something wrong with the scale I
received yesterday, no matter what I do I can't get it to work right.
I'll call amazon and see if they'll send me a replacement scale.

Hi all,

Last week Gerald Levy and one other person recommended a talking
bathroom scale, it looks like the brand name is Newline from what it
shows on amazon. I bought it and got it yesterday but after inserting
the batteries so far all my mom and I can get it to do is to say please
wait when we tap it, then there's a beep a few seconds later and then
the scale shuts off.

My mom has been the one doing this so far so I'm not sure at what point
she steps on the scale but what might we be doing wrong? Is there a
certain procedure to follow to make the scale work?

Btw my mom says that after it says please wait there's some letters that
come up on the display that she says looks like out 2, but she says that
she's not sure because apparently the entire letters aren't shown.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Troy
