Sugar, While Amazon sells many different models of reading devices they can be broken down into two categories: Fire tablets and Kindle ereaders. The Kindle ereader has a screen reader and is only used for reading material such as books, magazines, newspapers and even comic books. Other than accessing the Kindle store you can't perform other functions such as reading Web pages, checking email, downloading apps, listening to music, etc. They are primarily designed as readers. The Fire tablets can do all of these things but they are also
full-featured tablets, meaning that you can browse the Web, check
email, play music, use apps, etc. There are pros and cons to each.
Both have a screen reader but I'm more familiar with the Fire
tablets than the Kindle readers. David Goldfield, Blindness Assistive Technology Specialist JAWS Certified, 2019 WWW.DavidGoldfield.org On 8/2/2020 7:14 PM, Sugar Lopez wrote:

Sugar, Kindles can definitely read out loud. The voices are from Ivona and are fairly human sounding and easy to understand. If she needs to use the built-in screen reader to browse for and read books there may be a bit of a learning curve if she isn't used to touch screen based screen readers. The Fire tablets do come with a screen reader called VoiceView as
well as several low vision features. If someone has enough vision
to open a book but just wants the book to be read aloud there is a
separate text to speech function just for reading books which is
separate from the screen reader. David Goldfield, Blindness Assistive Technology Specialist JAWS Certified, 2019 WWW.DavidGoldfield.org On 8/2/2020 7:20 PM, Dave Mitchel

What I would also add is that your friend would likely qualify for services from the National Library Service, even if her vision loss is only temporary.

She is in a home so it makes it difficult and she can’t use her lap top anymore
I am needing help in locating a Kindle reader that will read to her and does anyone know where I can purchase one for her? Thanks so much. Re: can you set up a Gmail account on the same computer this a pop3 account too?
Steve Matzura
I'm not even sure what you're asking. Gmail is an email provider;
POP3 is an email retrieval mechanism. Gmail can use either, but
it's never a good idea to use both, thus setting up two different
retrieval methods for one account, because they will eventually
interfere with each other and you'll wwind up with either
duplicates or missing messages. Tell us what you're trying to
achieve.

An easy way to find out how to get good results is to experiment with the Zoom test session. I seem to remember you are using Zoom. My microphone picks up speech pretty well when I am next to the laptop. I'm not sure exactly where the microphone is. I don't feel anything like holes anywhere that indicates its presence. If I want better audio, I lean over the computer. You can try different positions leaning over the computer. But are you asking because the microphone isn't working or is giving you poor or soft reproduction? Do you know how to change the volume of the microphone? There is also a microphone boost. Without knowing more, while I could write further, I don't know if it would be helpful or apply.

I don't know what is shown on screen when this happens but it has happened to me before. this material was probably taken down or maybe you have to be a paid member of Youtube to stream it. Why this happens instead of something on screen or some sort of announcement that the file has been taken down for copyright violations is something I don't know. If you have a sighted person around to see what is on screen, we may get an answer but all this material is copyrighted.
