Re: Test message

I just checked the available settings. While I wasn't going to show the addresses of \those sending messages, that isn't an option. In other words, Groups.io allows you to have e-mail addresses someone writes in the message body shown or not shown. It never allows the addresses of those appearing in the from line of messages to be shown.

The proposed change would allow addresses a member might write in the message body to be shown, such as the address of a Brailler repair business. The address of the message sender wouldn't be shown. Gene

Admin. A possible change to list settings
Gene
From the owner:
I have had a request to make a change in list settings. This doesn't affect what members see if they receive e-mails from the list. But if someone sends a message containing an e-mail address, someone searching the archives or reading messages in their browser on the site now wouldn't see it. For example, if someone sent the e-mail address of a Braille Repair service, that message wouldn't be seen in the archives or when reading mail on the web site instead of in an e-mail program. this sounds like a reasonable change to make. I know a small number of people read messages using the browser interface and from time to time, someone may search for information and see archived messages. If anyone has any objection to this change, let me know at gsasner@.... I can only think of one instance where this might be objected to. Now and then, someone sends a message asking if anyone knows the e-mail address of someone a member is trying to contact who is a person, not a business. While I would expect such information to rarely, if ever, come up if someone is searching the archives for a topic, it is the only case where I can see that anyone might object. But I want to give people a chance to comment in case they do object or if I haven't thought of something that they think should be considered. the e-mail address of the sender of the message would still be hidden, as it is now. Gene

Re: Test message

The regular e-mail address isn't shown. It sounds like a reasonable change to make, though it will be of little benefit.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
The only possible problem I see is that now and then, someone asks on list if someone has the e-mail address of a person or someone puts their address in a message if they want messages sent to them off list. I'm not sure that matters since it is unlikely such information would come up in the kinds of searches of archives people would be expected to do, but you never know if rarely or very rarely, something might come up. Windows Media Player has a more cconvenient interface in the XP version than in later versions for what I use it for. I use Windows Media Player to speed up spoken word material. It is much better than Winamp, using the Pace Maker plugin or the VLC player for doing this when listening at fast speeds, such as two thirds or twice normal speed. I don't know if there is anything eaquivalently good for use with computers.
