JAWS jumping out of edit boxes

Holly

Hi group:

I just saw, on a JAWS list, that some people were having issues with JAWS jumping out of edit boxes while typing.

I had this problem awhile ago on the Costco website and I think Gene told me the workaround, but I have forgotten.

If someone could post the solution, I will pass it on.

Thanks.

Unless it were to be included by the author in the body or signature text and the person reading via the web interface is logged in when reading.   Whatever it is that is represented by the . . . in the two examples in Laz's test message would be written out in their entirety.  But if someone includes an e-mail address in a signature the presumption is that it will be visible to all recipients to begin with.

I just checked the available settings. While I wasn't going to show the addresses of \those sending messages, that isn't an option. In other words, Groups.io allows you to have e-mail addresses someone writes in the message body shown or not shown. It never allows the addresses of those appearing in the from line of messages to be shown.

The proposed change would allow addresses a member might write in the message body to be shown, such as the address of a Brailler repair business. The address of the message sender wouldn't be shown.

And, ideally, that sort of reply should occur in private anyway.  While I'm willing to share e-mail addresses of people I know with people I know, and where I'm as certain as can be that no objections would be raised, I'd never post same on a public list.

If we fix the "Reply to Sender" not showing at the bottom of TechTalk messages, that will be much, much easier to do, too.

Admin. A possible change to list settings

Gene

From the owner:

I have had a request to make a change in list settings. This doesn't affect what members see if they receive e-mails from the list. But if someone sends a message containing an e-mail address, someone searching the archives or reading messages in their browser on the site now wouldn't see it. For example, if someone sent the e-mail address of a Braille Repair service, that message wouldn't be seen in the archives or when reading mail on the web site instead of in an e-mail program.

this sounds like a reasonable change to make. I know a small number of people read messages using the browser interface and from time to time, someone may search for information and see archived messages.

If anyone has any objection to this change, let me know at gsasner@....
I can only think of one instance where this might be objected to. Now and then, someone sends a message asking if anyone knows the e-mail address of someone a member is trying to contact who is a person, not a business. While I would expect such information to rarely, if ever, come up if someone is searching the archives for a topic, it is the only case where I can see that anyone might object. But I want to give people a chance to comment in case they do object or if I haven't thought of something that they think should be considered.

the e-mail address of the sender of the message would still be hidden, as it is now.

Gene

Thanks Norma,
That one seemed to work; although when I went to the CD drive in the file explorer and entered on it, the startup on the disk did run. Closing it, then pressing context key on the disk and choosing open, I got a look at the directory.  I think I'm getting there.

Thank you.

Re: Browser Help Please.

Windows Media Player has a more cconvenient interface in the XP version than in later versions for what I use it for. I use Windows Media Player to speed up spoken word material. It is much better than Winamp, using the Pace Maker plugin or the VLC player for doing this when listening at fast speeds, such as two thirds or twice normal speed. I don't know if there is anything eaquivalently good for use with computers.

If you intend to keep it as a backup machine, I think Windows 7 should be kept on it. Microsoft has had enough problems with its full upgrades recently that I want a system that is reliable and that won't be upgraded if I have to use it as a backup. Assumedly, using it as a backup would be for short periods if something goes wrong with the Windows 10 machine.

Janet,

As far as I know, default app setting on Windows 7 works as it always did, and it's way less strict about checking changes when programs try to make them, which has caused enough problems that things were tightened up later.

I would strongly encourage you to do a no-cost in-place upgrade to Windows 10 at your earliest possible convenience, after having backed up your system first. These instructions apply to an in-place upgrade, too, and I mention that in the instructions themselves: Doing a Windows 10 Repair Install or Feature Update Using the Windows 10 ISO file

?Good morning,

I have two questions:

1. Is there a list for Iphone users?

I have Eye-d Pro on my Iphone. When it opens, there is loud music which is much louder than the voiceover speech.

Is there a way to turn off the music?

Thank you for your thoughts.
