That definitely will work.  But what I can't figure out here is whether said JPG files are, say, scans of articles that the PDF is wanted to be able to do OCR on.  If that's the case, using Word to save as PDF and then OCR-ing the PDF and saving the text layer will work.

If they're not text-based image files, I can't imagine why PDF format is preferable.

Did you look in disk management to check to see if it is detected there? You may have to assign it a drive letter and format any unallocated space.

I know the cable is attached properly, only one way to connect it. When I plug it in to USB port, I hear the ding like it recognizes it but doesn't show up in This PC. Software does not recognize it. Waiting to hear back from Crucial. They have no phone support. Won't buy from them again because of their support.

Yep, with a few small exceptions, the retention of the Favorites terminology but implemented just like Bookmarks are in every other Chromium-based browser being one of them.

I haven't seen the FS webinar to which you make reference, but the only word of warning I have is to make sure that it's for the new Chromium-based Edge, not original Edge, which should be gone from any Windows 10 that's being kept up-to-date at this point.

Not knowing exactly what hardware you have, if it is an external disk caddy, you may find it useful to rock the drive in his cradle to ensure all of the contacts make.

I have one five or six-year-old hard drive that just came out of my Dell desktop that does not mate with all of the contacts in my six or seven-year-old disc caddy. It does, fortunately, mate with all of the contacts in my wavlink caddy which I used to clone it to an SSD, which is now running my Dell.

This disc caddy clones the drive without the need for a connection to a computer. It reports readiness and progress with a series of LEDs, but after one reads the instructions carefully, one can time sequence the events, and be very patient, and get perfect cloning results.

Wifi Drive and Sonos issue

Fanus

Hello list
For 3 years I could not connect my WD wifi drive successfully, until I
decided 2 days ago that I should select the WD My Passport network and then
connect my Huawei wifi network to it, not the other way round. Now
everything works perfectly but now I have a Sonos problem. Sonos says I am
not on the same network as Sonos and wants to change but I am sure it will
ask for the My Passport network password. I do not have that because in
setting up I just used the word admin to log into the My Passport dashboard.
So, is admin the network password or where do I get it or is the Huawei
password now also the My Passport password? I hope one of the sonos gurus
can help.
Regards
Fanus

Hi Angel,

Edge & Chrome work more or less the same way. There are a hoste of
Tutorials available for Chrome on Freedomscientific's training page.

In addition to this, they also conducted a webinar especially for
using Edge with JAWS. I would share the links for the archive of that
webinar as soon as they share it.

If you have been used to working with IE, there's really not much you
are going to miss much while working with Edge or Chrome except the
RSS feeds for which i have't really found a very reliable addon so
far.

I would also be sharing a list of my addons that you can install in
either of the browsers to further customise your experience.

Thank you,

Re: how to get rid of page breaks in note pad

Gene

I started an issue report on Github about this so the NVDA community can discuss it. Please give me more information which I may use in further discussion. My contention is that the default setting for page break being announced should either be most or all so it isn't announced by default.

Did you have this problem with Bookshare books? Did you have it with other material as well?

I am puzzled about why this problem hasn't been complained about a good deal since I suspect it is common and it is annoying.

Hi jene, my friend helped me with your steps to stop the screen reader from saying page break, woe. Thanks I appreciate it. It goes to show how NVDA is much better than jaws when one needs to change voice notification announcements. I can say you cant just motify a synthesizer file like you can in NVDA. So if one is reading with jaws, you cant get rid of it saying page break according to freedom!

If you can, guess their tec support does not know. So now I can get my books and it can have a lot of page breaks but, I will not have to here them while reading a book! Cheers Heather

I am not saying you are wrong that you have read a lot of documents and not

heard page break announced. But the problem occurs when you export a

document from Openbook to a text file. I don't know what other programs

leave page breaks in the file when you export or save them in text format

from another format. Other list members may want to discuss that.

I also don't know if this problem occurs if you read a text file in Word or

in many other word processors. I do know that if you read a text file

exported from Openbook in Notepad, that the page break is spoken. The

person didn't explain what program she is using to read the document. We

dohn't know the history of the document, whether someone sent it to her, or

whether she exported it in text format from a program nor what program she

is using to read the program.

But the problem does make perfect sense. If the page breaks are retained,

they will be shown in notepad as if they were revealed codes and NVDA speaks

them unless you make the adjustment I discussed in earlier messages. If the

person does what has been suggested, the problem will be solved.

My guess is that the person is using Notepad to read the file, though we

don't know that and that it was exported from another program. She may not

know the history of the file if it were sent to her.

I will say it one more time, and I'm done: I doubt very, very much that

this is NVDA, per se. There is something odd about the source material. It

happens. Yet no one wants to acknowledge that, it seems.

Re: A puzzling behavior in an IMAP account

The reason I say its surprising is that both methods access the same server.  If I use IMAP in Thunderbird, delete all messages from the inbox of the program, then look at the GMail web interface, the inbox is empty.  But the POP3 program is downloading the same messages from somewhere.

Also, the reverse doesn't happen.  If I look at and delete mail with my POP3 account in Windows Live Mail, then open Thunderbird, no messages I've already looked at are downloaded.

The latter.  Mixed access methods invariably lead to "unexpected results."  And even using POP3 and only POP3 on multiple devices often leads to a complete mess with regard to keeping things in sync if used with the default settings, which immediately removes a message from the server after download.
