Jessica,

You coult press ctrl-shift-n to create a new folder in explorer or alt-2
will also work.
An other way:

Go in a folder. When you open a folder, tnothing is selected and you
can press the contextkey and choose new or w to create a new folder or
file.
If you have moved in that folder, then something is selected.
First unselect it with ctrl-space and then contextkey.

While I doubt this will solve the problem, you might as well try. I would think that even if the ribbon was hidden, pressing alt and tabbing would still move through some things. It does in other programs I have that use ribbons. But try control f1 and see what happens. To toggle back to the current setting, use the same command. Be in File Explorer when you use it.

In File Explorer, under Windows 10 Version 2004, ALT+H,N, is the keyboard shortcut to create a new folder.  ALT+H,W gets you into the Create New Item option, and you'd have to hit F afterward for a new folder.  I don't believe this has changed in years, but I could be wrong.

CTRL+SHIFT+N has also been another "create new folder" shortcut in File Explorer for ages

Admin. avoiding list clutter

Gene

A list member today sent a message asking if people use a service but not asking what they want to know about the service. A question such as this one is likely to produce many unnecessary messages, in other words, list clutter.

First, many people may answer saying they use the thing asked about, and ask what the question is. Since usually people do use what is being asked about, the original poster then sends his/her question(s) and then another round of answers is given.

Will people who ask if people use a service or product please include their question(s) regarding what they want to know in the same message?

Stream Genie

Lighthouse <bernice.j.bird@...>

Good evening,

This is my first email to this group. I am one of those weird people that wants to turn on my TV and turn it to a station and watch a program. I don’t mind searching for a specific movie on Net Flix, or searching you tube for something, but when I watch TV, I don’t want to have to go searching forever for current live TV.

I have bought 3 digital antennas, and none of them get very many stations. I bought a roof antenna just to find it is extremely difficult to mount it on my house. The wire would have to go three quarters of the way around my house.

I am looking for information about the Stream Genie. I would appreciate hearing about individual’s experiences with it, or any reliable information that can be provided.

I feel extremely strongly about the negative business practices of our local cable company, and don’t want to support a business that charges their long term customers more and more money. Call me strange, but I thought a good practice would be rewarding long term loyal customers, not penalizing them.

Thanks for any info about this system.

does Narrator come preinstalled with the Macrium reflect recovery disk like it does with Image for Windows or, do I have to install Narrator myself to make the MR recovery disk useable with Narrator?

Macrium reflect's recovery environment is also based on Win PE and narrator works there perfectly.

Restoration of an image is accesible via Narrator when using Image for Windows because Narrator comes on the Image for Windows recovery disk which can be copied to a USB drive.  I haven’t checked the price lately but it cost around forty bucks a couple years back for the ability to use it on five PC’s.

One does need one-time help to change the boot sequence on their PC or, one-time assistance to memorize the keystrokes to change the boot menu to boot up off the recovery disk.

Macrium Reflect  is an excellant free choice but one will always need sighted help to run the recovery disk.  Not too bad of a deal to get your complete drive back.

Here's the bottom line.  There is no inmaging program that is completely accessible.  Macrium Reflect is accessible only for creating the backup image on an external hard drive.  But sighted assistance is needed to restore this image because there is no speech available during the restoration procedure.  This is true of all imaging programs; the backup procedure may be accessible, but sighted help is almost certainly needed to restore the saved image.

I'm not doing this to be nasty, but am starting to do it on principle.  Tutorials, step-by-step tutorials, in the hundreds to thousands for a common task like this can be found with a simple web search.

A search on [factory reset iPhone {insert specific version of iPhone here}] will get you the information you need.

Re: How to separate my old iPhone from the new one?

Brian Vogel <britechguy@...>

Sharon,

The easiest thing to do would be resetting your old iPhone to it's original "out of the box" state and letting her set up what she needs to herself.

I am unclear by what you mean by "still linked with my text messages" if you've transferred your SIM card to your new device.

Re-establishing your own Whatsapp account on the device should you need to later is not difficult, and you'd probably want to reset the phone again before you'd start using it again anyway (if that ever were to happen) as you'd want to be rid of all traces of her on it.

Hi,

I'm letting a friend borrow my old iPhone 5s mainly for Whatsapp. But it's still linked with my text messages, which come to me as failed to send. Is there a way to separate my Whatsapp account from hers without my deleting mine? Would it be necessary to delete my iCloud account on that phone? If so, is there a way to do this without makeing the change with my new one?

Thanks,

Word Press Accessibility Day October 2

Norma A. Boge

Hi everyone,

Although targeted to website developers, this event offers a rare insight into how developers approach accessibility and the tools they use. There are sessions regarding screen readers, and a visually impaired screen reader user and web developer will be speaking. From the point of view of most of us, these sessions might give us tips on how we can better communicate our needs to not only those who develop for WP but for any site.

This event is free and open to everyone, no registration required, just drop in as you like.

Re: Help creating .pls files from radio station URL

Hello Gene. By live or direct stream URL, I may be showing my ignorance, but I meant an URL that can be copied and pasted into the address bar of a browser and start a station's stream immediately, like the stream URL for WGN, Chicago, which is https://v7player.wostreaming.net/3614

Thanks for the Billsparks.net link. I believe that it has a lot of cool stations for me to try.

What do you mean by direct stream URL? Stations have underlying streams in general. They broadcast using HTML5 and that isn't the underlying format.
The stream starts out as something else, I believe most of the time a streaming MP3 file. If you are simmply using the link that appears in your address bar, that is usually not the actual original stream. If a station actually plays in a program like Winamp when you use the address from the address bar, then the address is to the actual underlying stream. It is rare that stations use the underlying streme these days.

You will find some stations' underlying streams listed on this web page. I almost never use the site so I don't know how many. Some stations simply use the address shown in the browsers' address bar when streaming using HTML5, and I believe the site identifies those by saying listen in browser.
If an underlying link is available, I believe the station will have a link that says listen in media player. Many stations have both links. The site has a ssearch link. once you do a search, start at the top of the page and use the screen-reader's find to look for the word results, then look down.

Anyone have a sure-fire method for creating a .pls file for the Book
Port Plus or the Blaze ET from a radio station's direct stream URL? I
have tried to use notepad by pasting the direct stream URL for several
radio stations, of course, one radio station per file, and saving the
file as a .pls.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. I wonder if there is a
repository on the web that has a lot of real radio stations from which
I can create .pls files for media players, not user created internet
radio stations. I want honest-to-God. On-air radio stations, not user
createdinternet stations.
