For a blind user, there is no advantage to full screen mode.  But is there any advantage for sighted users?  While I don't know this, I would think that the tool bars and menu bar wouldn't take up enough room to matter.

It certainly might.  You should know, for future reference, were you to accidentally throw yourself into fullscreen mode, exiting and restarting the browser will always have it restart in normal mode.

I strongly suspect that there have been exit and restart of Edge involved, but I could be wrong.

True, but hitting ALT+F makes the menu reappear, even in Fullscreen mode, what you open will be presented in fullscreen mode (e.g., settings) and once you finish doing whatever it is you're doing and gain focus on what you were looking it's still in fullscreen.  My central point being that the menu not being visible does not mean that the menu is not accessible, when needed, via the conventional keystrokes.  Closing settings were one to invoke it fullscreen is just using the close tab command, CTRL+W.

Re: frustrated with edge

I checked that after I wrote my message. I knew it generally does, but I didn't know about Chrome specifically. It hides the menu in that program, too. Therefore, I would say that full screen means that the document window takes up the full screen, or the full program window, I'm not sure what, and nothing else is available.

It appears to me, from this test and other observations I've made in other programs, that full screen makes the document window take up either the full screen or almost the full screen, thus causing some or many other items not to be available.

If Edge still uses the Internet Explorer command to toggle between the normal display and full screen mode, it may solve this problem. Try f11 and see if you can now move to the address bar. If the interface changes in ways you don't like and you still can't see the address bar,, f11 should toggle back to the view you were using.

Re: frustrated with edge

There are times when using NVDA that I copy text in that way. NVDA has a problem where, when you copy text with browse mode on, no paragraphs are indicated.  You will have line after line of text with no blank lines where paragraphs should be.  This is a serious problem and it would be very annoying for sighted users to get copied text that is long enough where paragraphs matter in the visual presentation.  Besides, sending text without paragraphing makes you look not particularly competent.

When you have Edge open put in a search term and press enter to get a page loaded or you won't get the correct options showing in the next step.
Now press, Insert + V, to open the quick settings.

Down arrow to Virtual cursor options and right arrow to open if it's closed.

Down arrow to Select and copy... if it says Select and copy from Virtual cursor you're good, but if it says anything else press the spacebar to toggle through the settings until Jaws reports Select and copy from virtual cursor, now tab to Okay and press enter to save / close.

Down arrow to find

Hi,

So many things I cannot do with edge that I could do with other browsers. Is there a setting I need to change on edge?

Here are some examples of basic things I’m trying to do.

Copy text from a website, and accessing the address bar which I thought alt d would do the trick but when I do alt d, nothing.

Any assistance is always appreciated.

I don't object to such a service making money from advertisements if you aren't being tracked and they aren't intrusive. And sites make money as well.

But as far as I know, the Brave browser shares money with all sites you visit, which is better than selecting some to share with and some not to.

Toward the very bottom of the page you gave the link to is:

Is there payment involved?

Click here for a detailed overview of our financials.

and if you click-through on that "here," the very beginning of that page starts:

How is Adblock Plus financed?

Our main source of revenue comes as part of the Acceptable Ads initiative
-------
So the folks at Adblock Plus do disclose what I had mentioned earlier. It's not "front and center" but I wouldn't expect it would be, either. But it is not, and never has been, about "reciprocity," and there's a long documentation regarding the genesis of the Acceptable Ads initiative out there from when it came into existence. It was, to put it mildly, highly controversial at the time, particularly since Ad Block Plus changed its defaults to opt-out when this came into existence.

The only reason I'd say it might matter is this sort of misbehavior is typically "the canary in the coal mine."  There should never be an instance where native Windows keyboard shortcuts, or program keyboard shortcuts, do not work if a system is functioning correctly.  It's a big red flag that something (often multiple somethings) is off when they do.

I already posted the instruction sets for attempting fixes, and the order and conditions (this sort of weirdness being a primary condition) under which they should be applied.

Alt d never copies text. It moves you to the address bar in the browsers I've used. Control c copies text.

I haven't used Edge and unless someone can tell me meaningful advantages of doing so, I see no reason to. the Brave browser is, very likely a better browser. It helps you hnot be tracked, it substitutes its own ads for web site adevertisements and the ads aren't targeted, and the web site receives money from the ads the Brave browser shows, thus not just blocking ads, but paying sites. It is attempting to have an ethical way of dealing with advertising. And it is much faster at loading pages because it loads it own ads and doesn't load nearly as much material.

Thank you,

1. Using SFC (System File Checker) and DISM (Deployment Imaging Servicing and Management) to Repair Windows 8 & 10

then, if that doesn't solve the issue,

2. Doing a Windows 10 Repair Install or Feature Update Using the Windows 10 ISO file

When any native commands, and ALT+D to get to the address bar is native to every browser I know, are not working, and particularly for Microsoft's own programs, something's wrong that needs corrective steps to be taken.

Gene,
