Honestly with anything new a days and with apps getting bigger I would go at least 64 or even better 128 if you can afford it.

Hello,

I believe the newest version is the eighth generation. When it comes to the size of the hard drive, it really depends on what you are doing. 32 gigs is relatively small these days and apps are getting bigger and bigger. So if you are planning to download a lot of apps and keep a lot of books then no 32 is really not enough. If you are using it more to just surf the web or check email than 32 is probably enough. Hi all,
I'm thinking about getting Twitter, is there anyone on hear who uses it with Jaws? If so, how easy and accessible is it to use? How well does it work with Edge? Any shortcuts or tips/tricks that any of you have? And finally, is there a basic site similar to the ones Facebook has? I know it's not like Facebook, but still. Look forward to any help/suggestions that anyone can provide, as I don't really know anything about Twitter!!! Thanks Madison

I did try toggling the Full Screen key, F11,
but that didn't help on either computer and tablet mode was not activated on the
Windows 10 computer. As I said in another message playing with the mouse
did something that fixed the issue on both computers. I guess somehow the
mouse got bumped or jostled about and that triggered something and moving it /
clicking the buttons stopped whatever had happened. After feeling around
my desk it feels like my speaker bar had slipped and bumped into the mouse which
must been the cause of the problem. Thank you very much for your
input.

Problems 1. Have you accidentally activated full screen mode? F11 toggles full screen on/off. Edge should still show its full context menu even when full screen is on, but the other Chromium-based browsers do not. 2. Could you possibly have toggled Windows 10 into Tablet mode? Check the Action Center, as the Tablet Mode button acts as a toggle. If it's on/active/pressed then hit it again. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 2004, Build 19041 Always remember that computers are just glorified light bulbs - they rarely fail in continuous use and usually go pop when turned off and on. ~ Technician with the username Computer Bloke, on Technibble.com

Hi Brian, The majority of laptops 15 inch now have done away with number
pads or alot of keys in it to add more touch eye candy, or
bigger, shinier trackpads. Even my 17 had a paculiar layout with
the arrows smashed in with everything else and a large insert
sized windows key and a tiny insert key. I realized how much using
a laptop keyboard was slowing my typing and got a mechanical
external keyboard.

Okay, I did find the problem! For
whatever reason I tried navigating with the mouse to see what would happen and
after moving the mouse and clicking the buttons the menues in all 3 browsers
began working again. I don't ever touch the mouse and it's tucked away so
I don't touch it by accident, but something happened! Well it's Halloween,
goblins maybe?! LOL

I don't know what happened but, I can't access
any of the context menues in Edge, Brave & Chrome. Once I press, Alt +

Windows 10 and with all Jaws and NVDA on Windows 7. I can understand a
setting getting changed by accident on 1 computer, but on both?! I do have
a KVM switch connecting my Windows 7 & 10 computers where they both use the

happened! All advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks

I am not sure if either one of these may be the case, but both are worth checking (particularly with the Sync feature among browsers on multiple machines):
1. Have you accidentally activated full screen mode? F11 toggles full screen on/off. Edge should still show its full context menu even when full screen is on, but the other Chromium-based browsers do not. 2. Could you possibly have toggled Windows 10 into Tablet mode? You could get a solid state drive for your laptop. Sorry if that's been said already, but I haven't been following this thread. Pam.

Well, I think it is a matter of prospective. My brand new machine
had a 15 and 17 version, and I went with 17, because of a larger
keyboard, and mainly because of much improved cooling. I hardly if
ever move it around, so portability or battery life aren't
considerations.

The only time it is not faster is when you have an SSD and a mechanical drive in the same system, and if you are not running a relatively new SSD on a relatively new SATA interface, like in the past five years. A computer is only as fast as the slowest link in the chain.

But if I were looking for a new laptop at the present time, I'd definitely want an SSD in it rather than an HDD to start out with. It's just nice to have the additional speed you get, and to avoid electromechanical when you can stick with electronic, at least in a laptop, where resistance to shock from the occasional drop (and they do often happen) is a big plus. I still use HDDs as my backup media because in terms of "bang for buck" storage capacity SSDs can't touch them, and my backups are kicked off before retiring for the night, and are always done before the next morning. And three of the four laptops in my household are using either true HDDs or an SSHD (a mostly HDD with a small SSD component, these were transitional during the ultra-high cost SSD days). I intend to upgrade my partner's computer from a 2TB HDD to a smaller SSD as his Christmas present since he really hates any lag and is using only about 256GB on that 2TB HDD.

Re: Looking for a laptop replacement
Brian Vogel <britechguy@...>
Mary,
Were you not looking for increased portability I'd tell you to definitely try a simple drive upgrade first. But I know what you mean about some of the larger laptops, particularly ones with 17-inch screens, being beasts to carry around. I don't think they were really ever envisioned as such, either, to be honest. It was more about creating a laptop with a large display for those who wanted a laptop as their primary computer that probably wasn't going to be moved around much, if at all.
