Re: Finding the "Unread" messages in Outlook 365?

Brian Vogel <britechguy@...>

Vicky,

There is a "Next Unread Message" command, but it is not on the standard ribbon - and I mean the Message Ribbon when you're in a window reading a message.  You can customize the ribbon, add a new group to the ribbon, then place the Next Unread Message control in that group.  It is accessible via keyboard shortcut once it's been placed in a group on the ribbon.

If you would like me to create a step-by-step instruction set for doing this let me know.  I just did it "quick and dirty" in Outlook 2016 but would have to step through from the outset and record the keyboard shortcuts and things you have to look for during the process.

Re: quick Question about NVDA

If you are using the command NVDA key n and the menu doesn't open, you can try opening it from the system tray. Right click the NVDA icon and the menu will open if it can.

Hi All,

Okay, below is the Beta 3 download link for 32 and 64 bit systems, the Beta 3 report form link and what's new in the Beta 3 J2021.2010.47release.

Beta 3 32 and 64 Bit Download Link:

Beta Report Form Link:

What's new in Beta 3 for Jaws, ZoomText and Fusion:

Enhancements in JAWS, ZoomText, and Fusion 2021 Public Beta 3

The following is a list of improvements made between Public Beta 2 and Public Beta 3. Note that while many customer-reported enhancements are included
in this release, the following is a list of more notable changes.

Enhancements in JAWS 2021 and Fusion 2021 Public Beta 3
list of 29 items
• Added the ability for Sharky to tell you a joke, currently only available in the English Version and for JAWS. Coming soon to other languages.
• Removed volume change announcements that some users reported hearing in Public Beta 2 when using certain keyboards and headsets with multimedia controls.
• In response to customer feedback, we have moved the link to open Convenient OCR results directly in Word to the bottom of the results window rather than
the top to make it less distracting.
• For Voice Assistant in the German Version of JAWS and ZoomText, the word "hey" has been added to the wake words Sharky and Zoomy. Therefore, you now
open Voice Assistant by saying "Hey Sharky" or "Hey Zoomy."
• Improved the results returned for Voice Assistant in German, which was based on customer feedback.
• Resolved a problem seen in Notepad where the flashing cursor on a braille display was blinking faster than normal after selecting all text in a short
document. This also made it difficult to read flash messages on the display.
• Updated Voice Assistant so you can now say "settings center" or "quick settings" to access those utilities.
• Resolved a reported issue when using the new Braille Panning feature which helps avoid blank spaces on the display. When moving in HTML or the Virtual
buffer, there were certain edit controls in the Chrome and Edge browsers where text was not being displayed as expected when panning.
• Resolved a reported issue in Outlook where JAWS was not echoing text as expected when typing in the body of a new message with Typing Echo set to Words.
• Removed the announcement of Tutor Messages in Microsoft Office Ribbons as they were very verbose when attempting to navigate.
• When opening a message in Outlook, resolved a reported issue where JAWS would not always start reading from the top if it has previously been opened.
It would often start reading from the previous location where you stopped reading the last time.
• Resolved an issue in MS Mail where JAWS was reporting list start and end info for each item in a list.
• Users can now use Voice Assistant to Toggle certain features of JAWS and Fusion. Screen Shade, Audio Ducking, Speech on Demand, and Virtual PC Cursor
can all be toggled if you say the word toggle, followed by the feature. And in the December Update of 2021, we will make it so you can just say the name
of the feature, and it will toggle the state and avoid the need for the word toggle.
• Resolved issues for the Picture Smart Feature where the "more results" link in the Results Viewer, was not properly getting more results and displaying
them as expected.
• Updated the Help for Voice Assistant by removing and adding some commands for the current update.
• Resolved an issue when selecting all text (CTRL+A) in a large Word document. This action would cause JAWS to hang for several seconds.
• Resolved a reported issue where exporting your Settings, could cause instability as you navigated the dialogs while using this feature in JAWS.
• Resolved an issue where JAWS would not remain in Forms Mode, while trying to compose email messages in OE Classic.
• Resolved several issues related to migrating settings from previous versions of JAWS to JAWS 2021.
• Resolved issues for customers reporting that JAWS did not recognize ScaleRichView controls used in certain editors. This custom window class will be
recognized by default in JAWS and Fusion.
• Resolved an issue reported where braille was not tracking to the Navigation Bar in Outlook 365 or Outlook 2016 when pressing F6.
• Additional User Settings are collected when running the FS Support Tool. This will help Technical Support to gather all the relevant data to help solve
customer issues.
• JAWS would leave Forms Mode and the Virtual Cursor would be on when creating an email in Thunderbird Email. This occurred when navigating with arrow
keys.
• Resolved an issue where JAWS was not reading the Auto Complete options in the Chrome Address bar.
• Increased the size of the Speech History Buffer to allow for 500 strings rather than just 50 when you press INSERT+SPACE, H to review the most recent
strings sent to the synthesizer.
• The feature "Keyboard Lock" has been added to JAWS Command Search. To activate it, press INSERT+SPACE, L. This locks the keyboard and only allows informational
keystrokes to be used. To find the keystroke using JAWS Command Search, type the word "lock."
• Resolved reported issues with early public beta versions of 2021 where third-party scripts were not compiling. This was an issue when using WordPerfect
and Quattro Pro.
• Updated braille drivers provided by Papenmeire.
• Resolved reported issue in Power Point 365 in the Notes Area of a slide where JAWS was saying graphic while navigating text in the note.
list end

Enhancements in Fusion 2021 Public Beta 3
list of 3 items
• Resolved an issue when composing an email in Outlook where tracking by Fusion in the magnified view would fail. This occurred if you first selected text,
and then started typing to replace it.
• Resolved an issue where the Focus highlight is not tracking in Office Ribbons when JAWS Virtual Ribbon is enabled.
• Resolved an issue where Braille Viewer and Text Viewer were not remaining persistent and restarting after rebooting. They should stay active until the
users shuts them off in the future.
list end

Enhancements in ZoomText 2021 Public Beta 3
list of 4 items
• Resolved an issue in Mozilla Firefox 82 where ZoomText Focus Enhancement was failing to track as you read while navigating in Firefox.
• Resolved a Voice Assistant issue when trying to increase or decrease magnification to a Fractional Level. For example, asking Zoomy to set Magnification
to 1.2, resulted in getting 12X. the decimal point was being excluded.
• Resolved an issue where ZoomText speech would not stop when saying a Voice Assistant command. The feature was designed to interrupt speech.
• Resolved an issue in the Outlook Inbox when your Windows Display Setting Zoom Level is higher than 100%, and you navigate the inbox. The view is shifted
to the right as you navigate making it impossible to see the left edge of the window.
list end

Re: Ninja Foodi Grill

Monte Single

Hi Dani,

I have no experience with the ninja grill.
I have a Hamilton Beach indoor grill which is similar to the George Forman indoor grill.

My Ham Beach grill is totally basic. The timer and on off knob is all in one. When you turn it to set the time, it turns on the grill at the same time.
No temp control, but if you turn it on for a few minutes before putting that steak on the grill, you can get it spankin hot.
Like the Forman grill, the beach has grill plates in the bottom and lid of the grill. The grill can be used in the closed or opened flat position.
I took a quick look at amazon and there are more than one model of the Ninja.
There is one that is an air fryer as well as indoor grill.
Which one are you thinking about?

Seeking Recommendations For The Most Accessible Online RSS Reader

David Goldfield <david.goldfield@...>

Hi. Of the following online RSS readers I'd like to know which one is the most accessible with screen readers.

Bazqux Reader
Feed Wrangler
Feedbin
FeedHQ
Inoreader
Newsblur
the Old Reader
I'm specifically referring to the Web-based versions of these services and not their iOS versions.
Here's why I'm asking. I actually use a fabulous RSS reader for iOS called Lire (pronounced Lear. In previous versions of Lire I could perform a search and in the search results it would offer the capability to plug in feeds from Google News and Bing News with those key words. As an example, if I searched for "Apple Accessibility" one of the search results would be "Apple Accessibility, Google News" which would be the RSS feed for the Google News feed for all news articles from Google News containing the key words Apple Accessibility. Unfortunately, in the newest version of Lire this feature had to be removed. For me I think that the easiest way to add these feeds would be to do so on the Web. Since Lire supports the feed readers I mentioned earlier once I copy and paste the URLs of the feeds into my list of feeds Lire would then automatically pick those up.
Many thanks.

Hi Tenny,

OK, this is a bit convoluted on the web page, but here is what you do.
1. Use the address (for easier access) gamepass.nfl.com. This takes you right to the listing of games.
2. The page is haphazzardly constructed so find the 2020 season and week 8. Click on the week 8 link.
3. After a bunch of listings of previous years and games, you should come to the listings for week 8.
4. Sloly read over the listings line by line (they are abbreviation so you will have to listen closely and maybe if you're not sure use character navigation to determine for sure which listing you are looking at.
5. Under each listing, there is a listen link. Click on this link.
6. Again you are presented with a haphazard screen and you must move down to the listing of radio broadcast links. They seem to include the TV reference across all pages and sub pages for Game Pass. In any case, you should see the listings in abbreviated form again, but this time, there is a combo box containing the home and away items.
7. Highlight this combo box and switch to edit mode NVDA insert + space bar or the JAWS equivalent of turning off the PC cursor.
8. Use up and down arrows to select either home or away and press enter.
9. I notice that under the combo box, there are a group of controls and one of them is play. But as soon as I chose the home/away item in the combo box, the stream started playing without any further action.

In this combo box, unlike the iPhone app, there are only two choices: home and away. In the iPhone app, which has a totally different construction, there are 4 buttons for each game: two for home and away English and two for home and away Spanish. I guess since your chosen language is English for the web version of this interface, the site assumes you only want the English links. Probably, if you chose Spanish as your default language when you signed up, the two choices would be the Spanish feeds--but this is just a guess on my part.

In conclusion, the site though clumsy--just as is the iPhone app--is useable once you get used to it.
Good luck.

Enes,

Find me a single, solitary example of a laptop with a full sized keyboard that does not have a number lock or plus key, then we can talk.  I have, literally, never seen one.  Anything with a built-in number pad that is multi-function, whether laptop or desktop, has a Num Lock key.  I've never seen an absent plus.  There are many desktop keyboards that have no applications key.

The number of instances where SHIFT+F10 and Applications/Menu key are not equivalent is small.  I've observed that there are instances where they are not, but those instances are certainly not enough to make this any sort of major concern, and in all cases I can get what is needed to come up, or activate, by other means.  And in the case of a laptop, specifically, it is so simple to keep left and right mouse click while masking the mousepad area I do not understand why it's not done all the time.  Having real left and right click is far, far, far more convenient than having an applications key, as right click is its equivalent in every context I've ever tried it.

Your messages give the impression that "lack of keys" is a common issue on laptops that have full sized keyboards.  It very simply isn't.  I've had untold numbers of clients who were laptop users and desktop users, with native keyboards, and each group has equal access via a screen reader, occasionally using slightly different means.

Brian,

Don't get me wrong.I am perfectly capable of using the laptop keyboard if forced too, but I have trouble with arrow keys, due to the way they are layed out as well as the insert.  But a desktop style keyboard is just so much easier to use and more ergonomic with the key combinations when using a screen reader. I would sdisagree with missing keys though, like missing a numb lock, plus or enter key, or applications key is a problem. Yes many claim the shift f10 does the same thing, but this isn't true. shift f10 does not work in all contexts that applications does, and it brings up a much larger menu than applications.

Enes,

You'll get no argument from me there, and if the intention is to have a laptop as a substitute for a desktop, seldom used in carry-with mode, that's the easiest way to go.

But a missing key or two does not make much difference to me.  There are variations galore in full-sized keyboards that you buy as external keyboards.  My point is that if you have a number pad, and you wish to use the laptop with its own built-in keyboard, that makes the process for a screen reader user much easier if they're already accustomed to desktop keyboard layout.

And, I'll repeat, very few are missing anything of significance at all.

For myself, and myself alone, I see no point in buying a laptop and not at least learning how to use it with it's own built-in keyboard.  Most will eventually have to do this, at one point or another, and the learning curve for the touch and reach and key locations on any new-to-you keyboard is pretty much the same.  I have had scads of clients who use only desktops, only laptops with the laptop keyboard, and laptops with an external keyboard.  But I do encourage those in the third category to make certain that they can use the built-in, if forced by circumstance.  But there's no reason to avoid an external keyboard if you prefer it for the majority of your use.

What I was referring to are websites in general that give instructions for the general public. But I'm glad you mentioned Accessibility Central info.

There is a site called Accessibility Central. I haven't looked at it much but it has a lot of tutorials. While they tell you how to use programs with NVDA, if you know your screen-reader a lot of the information perhaps most should be usable by you. If you kknow your screen-reader, you will know how to do the equivalents that use screen-reader commands. Most of what people use most of the time are Windows and program commands.
Here is a link to the home page:

Here is a link to the main tutorial page:
http://www.accessibilitycentral.net/nvda%20tutorials.html
Quite a way down the page you will see a link that says NVDA tutorials for other programs. The address is:
http://www.accessibilitycentral.net/nvda%20tutorials%20for%20other%20programs.html

On that page, moving by heading appears to be the best way to see what is available. I haven't looked at the other pages enough to know if that is consistent. But that page may be the one where you will find most of what you want unless you want to learn about NVDA in some detail.

You won't see this if you move by headings on this page but there is something you or others may be interested in, a tutorial on Thunderbirdl.

Are there any specific websites you prefer to go to learn technology-related how-to's and tips and tricks, including topics on computer and mobile devices? I googled something and came up with results I'm not sure are the most reliable sources of instructions.

Thanks for any input you may have,

Hello,
The older lightning cables will work just fine. You do not need to purchase a usb-c charging block.

I know that with the new iPhone's there is no charging block included but rather just a lighting to USB C cable. My question is if anyone know if you can use an older lighting to USB cable as in the past or do you need to make sure that you have a type C charger before ordering.

thanks for any info.

A little research pays off. I found the Zoom keystrokes for the Mac
and I found them in time.

Thanks

Re: Issue With Thunderbird latest upgrade and Quick Folder Key Navigation Add On

Does it have anything to do with Tools for all add-ons, Update all add ons automatically?

Press:
alt t, arrow down to add ons, tab till you reach Tools for add ons, press that button, arrow down to Set all add ons to update automatically.

This is what I did and I haven't had any further trouble, although, I had been.

I'm not sure this is it, but I haven't seen it mentioned, so I thought I'd make a little noise.
