Marvin,
Thanks for the update. If there is another keyboard shortcut to jump to the next unread message, I was unable to find it, and if you do find it definitely post it. I am not quite certain what you're saying is "not quite what you were hoping for," After setting things up, is ALT+H,Y not taking you to the next unread message? Even when I've manually marked something I had read as unread, if I go "back up the inbox" (or whatever mailbox) above it, when I hit that key combination it's what I land on. I think you can only add the next unread item control to one ribbon in Outlook. I did not try initially adding it in the view where you're looking at the inbox list of messages itself. I may play with removing it from the message reading ribbon and see if I can tuck it in there instead when I have time. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 2004, Build 19041 Always remember that computers are just glorified light bulbs - they rarely fail in continuous use and usually go pop when turned off and on. ~ Technician with the username Computer Bloke, on Technibble.com

Re: Finding the "Unread" messages in Outlook 365?
"Marvin Atkins"
Brian,
I implemented the steps you gave for Vickie to put “read next unread item) on the message tab/ribbon and used the Alt+H, Y keystroke many times yesterday and today and so far there has been no error message pop up. It has worked perfectly. I am using Windows 2004, JAWS 2020 and Outlook 10. Although I think using Ctrl+. Does the same thing. This was not the keystroke I was hoping for as what I was looking for is to find the messages in the Inbox marked “unread”; for example, say you have 300 messages in your Inbox and 20 of those are marked “unread”. In WLM, you could use Ctrl+U and go from one “unread” message to the next and when you found the one you were looking for, you hit enter to open. Outlook 10 seems not to have such a keystroke. I was hoping to maybe incorporating this keystroke to the Inbox ribbon somehow but not figured it out yet.

A web search on the program name plus download almost always turns up the official download page as the first search result, though sometimes it's in the top five if other sites like ninite and similar support it, too. It found where all the space was being used. So, I do not know if it is good with screenreaders, but it sure worked for my situation.

I don't know why you are having a problem. I would strongly recommend using Thunderbird portable. You can get it here:

https://portableapps.com/downloading/?a=ThunderbirdPortable&n=Mozilla%20Thunderbird,%20Portable%20Edition&s=s&p=&d=pa&f=ThunderbirdPortable_78.4.0_English.paf.exe I'm not recommending it because it works better than the installed version. I'm recommending it because if it ever develops problems, you can have a backup copy. You can simply delete the copy with the problem and copy the backup copy to the location where you run the program. Create a new backup copy periodically to keep it up-to-date, such as when the program updates itself. Also, you can simply copy the program to another computer if you want to use it on another machine. You can run it on an external drive if you want to run it on someone's machine without placing the program on the machine. I don't know why the program didn't run properly and I don't know if the portable version will. But if it does, I think the portable version is by far a better choice. Gene

I haven't used Spotify much for quite some time. My recollection is that control up arrow raises the volume and control down arrow lowers it. I don't know if that still is the case but it was a few years ago, when I used Spotify quite a bit. Gene

Re: NVDA, A Space Hog

You're welcome - I must admit, I initially got confused by the fact that if you move backwards from the edit, you get to a "toolbar" which only has one button in it - and not the one I wanted (it's the config button so you can change the properties of the report). Re why it gets stuck in that edit, I'm not sure, something about the edit, you can arrow around it so it's not that it just ignores keyboard input, but they have done something funny to it - As far as I could find though, the only two controls you can get to on that dialog with the keyboard normally are the drop down (if you do it first up) and the edit, unless there is a shortcut key they haven't made obvious, I can't figure out how to access that save button aside from either using the mouse, or NVDA's object navigation (which basically emulates using the mouse for this task).

Re: microsoft office 365 is it accessible with NVDA?
Quentin Christensen
Hi Mário, Yes NVDA works great with Office 365. There are some things which work better, for instance, spell check in Word didn't used to have the option to read the context of the misspelt word or definition of suggested replacements - except by using object navigation. Now that all works as you navigate around the spellcheck pane. Because Office 365 is regularly updated, there is always the danger of things breaking, but for the most part, I would say Microsoft fix more things than they break in terms of accessibility overall. Plus, if you DO report an issue (accessibility or otherwise) in say Office 2016 or even Office 2019 - Microsoft aren't going to fix it in that version, they'll fix it (if it's still an issue) in Office 365. So the main consideration then is that Office 365 is a subscription product you pay for either monthly or yearly, vs Office 2019 which can buy outright with one (higher initial outlay) purchase. Kind regards Quentin.

Re: quick Question about NVDA
Quentin Christensen
Note that your NVDA key will be either INSERT or CAPS LOCK, depending on what you have setup. As Gene suggested, if you can't get to it that way, you can go via the notification area (system tray): 1. Press WINDOWS+B to jump to the navigation area. 2. Press the RIGHT ARROW to move to the NVDA icon (If you can't find it, go to "Notification overflow chevron", enter on that and then arrow through the extra icons). 3. Press ENTER to open the NVDA menu 4. Press DOWN ARROW once to "Preferences" 5. Press ENTER to open the sub-menu 6. Press ENTER again to open "Settings". 7. Press CONTROL+TAB to get to the "Keyboard" settings. The first option is the Keyboard Layout. Basically Desktop layout uses the number pad for some functions, and laptop layout doesn't. So if you want to use NVDA+DOWN ARROW to say all from the current point, then you want Desktop Layout. If you want to use NVDA+A for Say all, then that's Laptop keyboard layout. The next option is your NVDA modifier key(s). You can select one or more of: CAPS LOCK NUMPAD INSERT INSERT (The one near DELETE, HOME, END, PAGE UP, PAGE DOWN, etc) Kind regards Quentin.

Re: NVDA, A Space Hog
Brian Vogel <britechguy@...>
Quentin,
Thank you very much for "solving the mystery" I had not yet solved with regard to using object navigation to activate that button. The text report format, and the range of available formats in text, from SpaceSniffer are definitely more screen reader user friendly than what comes in PDF from TreeSize Free. Although I have played with it some, object navigation still remains a personal weak point in my NVDA world. I just don't seem to get the relationships between objects in any clear way. By the way, you may be able to explain this to me, why is it that NVDA "gets trapped" in the report preview part of the ScreenSniffer report generation process if you tab into it. Once I do that I cannot extract myself no matter what I do. I have to either close that window and start again or resort to sighted point and click to force my way out of that text box. This is not something I've encountered before. I could be doing something entirely wrong, but I have absolutely no idea what that might be.
