Root Directory Limit
Howard Traxler
Using windows 10, 19.9, and NVDA almost latest.
Is there a limit to the number of folders on the root directory of a hard drive? I have a 4TB WD Passport; 44 folders and 4 files. Trying to copy files into one of the folders on it from my main drive but it doesn't indicate that anything is happening. Usually when I do this, I can review the screen and see how many folders/files,percent complete, speed, copying filename, and remaining time and files. But this time it shows nothing so far. Reviewing the screen, somewhere it says "this folder is empty." and at the bottom it says 0 items. I am really puzzled. Any thoughts, please. Howard

Thanks, but my list would be less than 30. I have just tried a test list and asked for responses if my friends got my note...I have received a number of replies. I am using the BCC field.
Thanks to all!

There are two ways to do this. The first is Insert + numpad 5 twice
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
quickly. If you are using a laptop Capslock + K twice quickly will work as well. The second way is to press F2. This will put you in Edit mode. You can press the home key to go to the beginning of the cell and right arrow to spell the content. Remember this is an edit field and you can make changes if you press a key by accident. Allen

If you want no one who's mailed to know who else has been sent the message, then I recommend sending it back to yourself in the To: field and putting all other recipients in the BCC field. Be warned, though, that most e-mail service providers do have a limit on how many addresses can appear in any one of the "recipient" fields, as a form of spam control. You could, at one time, put, say, 200 email addresses in the BCC field, do a send, and all would be well. If you try that now, the message will often be bounced back to you. You sometimes have to play the game of pairing down the list until you hit the size your email service provider allows, then send several copies of that message to however many members of what had been your original list of recipients that you can send to in any single message. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 2004, Build 19041 Always remember that computers are just glorified light bulbs - they rarely fail in continuous use and usually go pop when turned off and on. ~ Technician with the username Computer Bloke, on Technibble.com

John,
You're quite welcome. I always figure the more I can put out there about how the Groups.io web interface works for when members need to access it the better.

Re: dang the darn dropbox
John Sanfilippo
Hi Monty, I'm not sure this is the answer, but, I have found that if I just go to my dropbox folder using Explorer, I too cannot get the share links I want. But,
If I use the Windows Run command to Run Dropbox, then I have that share link when I press the apps/context/rightClick key. John

Re: where's the reply link?
John Sanfilippo
Hi Brian, Well, methinks there may be a bug, or there is some hidden event occurred whereby the reply link just did not show up in this particular instance. I do have alogin and password. And on that particular occasion I just tapped thelink in the Summary message exactly as I did just now to see this, and there was no reply link. But today, the same action got me the reply link, as you now can see.
But thanks for the great explanation of what's going on. John

U would, I would think, want to use the BCC field. Put your address in the from line and all recipient's addresses will be kept private.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Place your address in the from line, then shift tab perhaps twice to get to the bcc field button. Though you usually press the space bar on buttons, this button requires enter. There is no excuse for nonstandard buttons in the interface. Use whatever method you wish to add addresses. Autocomplete works here as in the other address fields in Thunderbird. Type something like a name like john or the last name of the person then read the current line to see if it is the right address. If not down arrow through the selections and press enter on the one you want. It will be added and you will be in a blank line where you can add another address in the same way. Continue until you have added all the addresses you want. Gene

Re: Microsoft Edge download help
Gene
It won't stop it. this isn't a progress bar. this is forced speech and occurs whether you are in the browser window or not. I don't know if it might be stopped by turning off ARIA speech in JAWS. But this isn't a case of a progress bar. If it were, it could be stopped in NVDA in the same way, by turning off spoken progress updates and it can't. The plugin I spoke of in another message will stop it, no matter what screen-reader is used because it is a Chrome plugin, not a browser plugin.

Hi, I’m thinking about creating multiple user accounts on my windows 10 machine. Is there a keystroke to switch users? I just now did windows key x, went to where it said shut down, sign out etc. but I didn’t see switch user. So, if I have a user account called Kimsan, and I create another one called john smith, how can I quickly switch over to john smith, if there is indeed a keystroke.
