With the numlock on, when you hit the NVDA key, you were actually hitting 0. That's why they were showing up. So, expected behavior.

I've never seen the behavior you describe and I don't see what setting might apply. But someone else may know of something that changes the way in which parts of the program are displayed. How do you get to the inbox now?

Thunderbird never opens in the message or folders list. pressing f6 is the
most efficient way to get there. I don't know why you hear what you hear.
I never hear desktop when moving through the program no matter how I move.
I don't recall an organize tool bar either but I'd have to check about that.

I get a message saying organize tool bar. I did go through the account
settings by pressing alt f, alt t, letter o, and I get a message saying
folder options, I down arrow, I tab, but I can't seem to find any setting to

something else? Could it be some setting that might be stopping Thunderbird
from opening in the in box instead?

In your account, right arrow to open the list of folders and up and down
arrow in them. Tab once to the message list of the folder you are in.

message list of the folder you are in. Or if you prefer, use f6 to get to

I've been trying to download Thunderbird with the link you gave for at least
35 minutes or more, and I get a message from Brave saying downloading
Thunderbird Portable 32 minutes left, but then one minute later Brave
reports 25 minutes left, then Brave reports 29 minutes left, this doesn't
sound right. I closed the download, and tried it three different times
again, but I still get the same message from Brave about counting the
minutes, and then I get a message saying this program will harm your
computer do I still want to allow this program on my computer, but I can't
seem to find anywhere to answer this question either yes or no. Any ideas?

I would suggest Thunderbird Portable. It does as much as the installed
version and it has advantages. If the program develops a problem, yu don't
have to troubleshoot it. You can have a backup copy and you can delete the
copy you are using and copy the backup to the location where the program is
you usually use.

Another advantage is that if you want to put the program on another
computer, you can copy it there and do no setup.

You can also run it from a thumb drive or other removable media. So if you
are using someone else's computer and you want to use your program, you can
use it in that way.

Thank you for your response, but I don't think doing a repair would help, as
Outlook 2010 is just so outdated! Outlook is not only outdated, but it is
sure enough flaky! I never did like Outlook for the simple fact it has to
many whistles and bells, in which I can't stand, and I just don't need all
those bells that go along with it. Now, this is just my personal opinion
though. The thought of calling Microsoft, gives me a headache! I will
definitely look in to another email program though. Having said all that, I
do love Outlook for iOS though, and wish I could have that on my pc, and not
only on my phone, but it is what it is! LOLL!

Note:  This is separate from the read-only mode that often rears its ugly head if Protected Mode is turned off.  It depends on the version of Office.

To turn off Protected Mode in MS-Office for Downloaded Documents

This applies in Word, Excel, Access, etc.  You have to do this in each program where you want the nag off.

1.        File Tab, Options Item

2.       In Options Dialog, Trust Center Pane

3.       Once Trust Center Pane is up, activate Trust Center Settings button (or Hit ALT+T)

4.       In Trust Center Settings, Protected View Pane

5.       In Protected View Pane, under the Protected View Group, uncheck whichever of the protected views you’d prefer not to deal with.  Leave the Data Execution Prevention Group untouched (and this feature is enabled by default).

Note well:  If you disable Protected View then be very, very certain that you trust the source of the file you intend to open, whether it was sent as an e-mail attachment or downloaded.  Ideally, it should be virus scanned, at a minimum, before you consider opening it.  On many computers your antivirus software or security suite automatically scans anything you download and if you’re sure your setup does this you are reasonably safe in opening files acquired from sources you trust.

I am more than willing to assist with the protected mode issue, if necessary.  I cannot believe that you have never opened something you've downloaded, or detached from an e-mail message, that has not behaved similarly, as this behavior is years-old.

There should be a button that allows you to, at the very least, read a MS-Word document if you find yourself in such a situation, but it has been so long since I've gotten that warning I cannot remember what the button says.  I routinely turn off protected mode for all office documents.

What follows is a very recent post on this issue, from the JAWS for Windows Group, by Bill White that may help you get around this issue:

MS Word actually has a number of features to protect you from various threats that are spread via Word files. One of these features (opens in a new tab)

in the read-only mode so it can’t affect your computer negatively.

This may be the reason why your documents always open in the read-only mode. Turning this option off should fix the issue for you.

1. Open MS Word on your computer.

2. Click on the Options option at the lower-left corner and it’ll open the settings menu.

3. Click on the General tab in the left sidebar if you aren’t already there. Then on the right-hand side menu, scroll down and find the option that says

Open e-mail attachments and other uneditable files in reading view.

4. Uncheck the box for the option and click on OK to save the changes.

5. The Word files you’ve received as email attachments should now open in regular mode letting you edit them however you want.

If you are in a message list, regardless of the folder, F6 throws focus back to the folder in the tree view.  It's a toggle that will keep shifting you back and forth between the last message in that folder you were looking at.

If that folder was not Inbox, you won't go back to Inbox.  Also, this is the perfect example of why the Quick Folder Key Navigation extension for first letter nav in the folder tree is pretty much essential if you want ease of use.

Zeros getting added randomly in text Why?

The last couple of days, when I write a message in Thunderbird, I get
Zeros added in my text.  have no idea why this suddenly started to happen.


Changed out my Keyboard, thinking it might be a Keyboard going out, but
the new Keyboard works as well0 as the old keyboard. Something else is
adding zeros.


Anyone have any ideas what is happening?


Have I accidentaly0 flipped a switch in Thunderbird, or is this some
kind of Graphic getting added, or some other mysterious artifact?

P.S.  Also, NVDA, the latest version, is no longer tracking lines all
that well.  This is both in Thunderbird and while on the Web using Brave.


Also the Read to End feature has stopped working in NVDA.

Thunderbird never opens in the message or folders list. pressing f6 is the most efficient way to get there. I don't know why you hear what you hear. I never hear desktop when moving through the program no matter how I move. I don't recall an organize tool bar either but I'd have to check about that.

minutes, and then I get a message saying this program will harm your

I would suggest Thunderbird Portable. It does as much as the installed
version and it has advantages. If the program develops a problem, yu don't
have to troubleshoot it. You can have a backup copy and you can delete the
copy you are using and copy the backup to the location where the program is
you usually use.

Another advantage is that if you want to put the program on another
computer, you can copy it there and do no setup.

You can also run it from a thumb drive or other removable media. So if you
are using someone else's computer and you want to use your program, you can
use it in that way.

Outlook 2010 is just so outdated! Outlook is not only outdated, but it is
sure enough flaky! I never did like Outlook for the simple fact it has to
many whistles and bells, in which I can't stand, and I just don't need all
those bells that go along with it. Now, this is just my personal opinion
though. The thought of calling Microsoft, gives me a headache! I will
definitely look in to another email program though. Having said all that, I
do love Outlook for iOS though, and wish I could have that on my pc, and not
only on my phone, but it is what it is! LOLL!

Muhammed, I made the switch a wile ago too, unfortunately there is no
way to transfer apps from an Apple device to an Android, you have to
redownload them again, or repurchase them, I know it's really
annoying.

Thank you so much for your instructions.  I didn't have to do any of that.  I have never seen anything like this before.  So, when I just got on the computer, I had a dialogue come up telling me to authorize Jaws update.  That didn't happen last night.  I think I am fine now.  I clicked Jaws authorization code that I already had and it seemed to have went through.  It says it's completed.  How do I know if I'm using Jaws home?  Thank you again.

updating the authorisation remotely but you can switch to jaws 2020 &
chek for the jaws authorisation update from jaws help, license submenu
& click on update activation option & it would update your activation
to the latest version you are entitled to.

I just updated to Jaws 2021 and didn't realize it.  I thought it was
part of Jaws 2020.  After I finished the update, I migrated my settings
and it then said something about 40 minute mode and I got really
confused because my license is paid for.  It said something about update
authorization and I couldn't find that.  Then it said Jaws professional
and I have Jaws home.  Did I do something wrong?  When I go into Jaws,
it says these 3 different versions with the same numbers.  Thanks in
advance for any help that you can give me.  I hope I did this correctly.
