Staticky, Hissing Sound from my Braille Note Touch Plus

Debbie April Yuille

Hi All

Lately, I’ve noticed a staticky, hissing sound coming from my BrailleNote Touch Pluss. It’s most noticeable when I plug it into my mixer, but even when the mixer isn’t plugged in, it’s still there.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

Debbie

Re: Composing New Messages on Gmail Site

Hello Abbie,

In the main Gmail site, you can do the following:
  1. Once you are at Gmail, press c to compose. If keyboard shortcuts are not enabled, you can enable them in settings.
  2. Type the first few letters of the individual you wish to email. If they are in your addressbook, or someone you have emailed before, the address will come up. Note that you may have to use up/down arrow keys to select the name.
  3. As soon as the name is announced, or you have selected the correct name, press enter. At this point, you can type in another name, as the one you wanted has been added.
  4. As soon as all names have been entered, press tab. Again, all email addresses you wanted are there. If you wish to view the ones you've added, sometimes going back to the to field will read those, but the most reliable way is to use your screen reader's mouse commands or touch cursor to access the content of the field.

I currently use J 2020 and alt C is for compose. No need to turn off the virtual cursor for the keyboard shortcuts. .

You can also press c to compose. Gmail has many keyboard shortcuts that work great. If they are not enabled, you can enable them in the general settings. If you are using JAWS, you will need to turn off the virtual cursor to use them.

Thanks.

On the gmail site, when I select a contact by checking the appropriate box, then press the Compose button, more often than not, the person's name appears in the To field but not the address. When I try to send the message, I'm told this can't be done because the address is missing. Is there another way to insert someone from contacts as a message recipient, or is there a way I can edit contacts so the address appears in the To field?

Ah. Now we're getting into the level of ethics and morality of a business owner and the reasoning behind using something which is illegal just to get more email adddresses to which they can advertise.
I'm sure they would like to avoid being contacted by the FBI or lawyer representing the movie studios.

Besides you and I know exactly where these files originally came from and if you missed that email message it's not the blind mise vault doing any of the work. Should they benefit from these files? I have my own opinion about that and you likely have your own. Needless to say there are other sites these files may be freely downloaded by anyone without the need to give up one's email address and receive any advertising messages in return.

Oh, it is illegal alright. On some of these described movies the
narrator will actually read the warning that most movies contain and
it makes it very clear that it is illegal to do what the file sharing
sites and email lists are doing. Take the blind mise movie vault for
example, one has to create an account and give one's email address in
order to get in to that section of their web site to even peruse
what's on there. If sharing these files were completely legal with no
chance of any legal repercussions why the need for that security
step...

Gene may be correct that we're such a small market and the fact that
no one has come after these mailing lists and web sites or it could be
the fact that no one has reported them to the legal authorities yet.

But yes, it is illegal to share or partake otherwise known as
pirating,of these files according to the on-screen warnings found inn
most movies.

The use and distribution of these visual creative works, such as

violate the US Copyright Law. However, since these files with
descriptive audio are usually exclusively audio with no visual image,
they are of no significant use to sighted individuals. As such,
little actual harm is done to the marketability of the actual
creation, which primarily consists of visual images. In other words,
these files are only of real use to the blind, so nobody is that
concerned about there free distribution. On the other hand, the
reproduction and distribution of strictly audio material, such as
recorded songs, is a totally different case. The wide proliferation
of this type of intellectual property on the web is largely blatantly
in violation of the Copyright law. By now, most artists understand
that there is little they can do to stop it, so they tolerate it.
Even music streaming services, such as Spotify, pay only less than a
half-cent to the creator of the song for each play. For example, a
song that is streamed a million times on Spotify will only generate a
little over four thousand dollars to the composer and nothing to the
performing artist. The artists and composers take whatever they can
make from download sites, such as Apple Music and Amazon Music, but
only the superstars really make the significant money in music.

Re: Virtual Audio Cable

Nimer Jaber

Hello Rich,

I spent lots of time on virtual audio cable, so can probably answer a few of your questions, maybe, but I ended up giving up on it as it was too complex to use for what I needed to use. Still, I did make some headway with it, and I spent lots of time with two other individuals mucking about, one of whom was able to work around, somewhat, some of the limitations. Anyway, reach out if I can help further with specific questions, but I am afraid I don't have any written guides on this topic.

Thanks.

How to start using the MBraille app after updating to IOS 14.2?

Sharon Hooley

Hi,

I just upgraded my iPhone XR to IOS 14.2.  When I load MBraille, I only hear direct touch.  What do I need to change, or do I need to use it in a different way, like as the third-party keyboard? I'm on the MBraille list and I've still seen messages posted, which indicated that it's still usable with this update.

Thanks,?

If you open the context menu with the, 7Z file, highlighted my first option is to extract with, Express Zip, and if you press enter on that option, Windows will install this program if the prompts are followed.  This is on a Windows 7 Pro computer.

Stay safe and take care.  Mike.

One program that will extract a 7z file is 7zip.  Install the 64 bit version
if you are using 64 bit Windows.
When you are on the file, open the context menu.
There will be a 7zip entry.  Press enter.
Look for options such as you work with with MP3 files such as extract here
or extract to and then a path or a folder is given, I don't recall exactly.
Press enter on the extract option that gives you a folder.
The file will be uncompressed and the file or files will be in the folder.
As to where to download 7zip, I'll let others discuss that.  So many free
programs now have unwanted software bundled with them and it is often not
accessible where you refuse such software as a blind user, that I'll let
others comment on where to download the program.

Well, I don't know how to extract such a file. So, if you could post
instructions here, I'm sure others would also benefit. Thank you.
