Re: The CC and BCC Fields in Thunderbird

Yes, it depends on what you can remember in part. But taking into consideration that most people probably don't use most entries most of the time and likely remember things like someone's name, say Bob, or perhaps something rather than their name such as blp as being the first three letters in their actual e-mail address and autocomplete finds the same string anywhere it occurs, it is often or very often enough to use autocomplete. For example, say that I remember that someone's address has the word Smith in it, but I don't remember where. Searching for smith would find Smith in any entry anywhere it occurs in any entry. or say I remember that someone has an entry that contains lts@tmail.com, using autocomplete to find lts@gmail will find those three letters@gmail anywhere in any entry. Thus, for a lot of people, autocomplete would be very useful.

For some people, the addressbook would make more sense or be very important, for many, autocomplete is a much better choice a lot or most of the time. the user should know both for different needs.

I hope this discussion makes things easier for people, depending on their needs and uses.

Hi Group,

The various fields within the headers of Thunderbird have always been a
bit problematic. Here is what I do. After opening a new
message/composition, I back tab until I hear 'list of addresses' and the
first address in my address book. I then use first letter navigation or
arrow down to whomever I want to send messages to. Now as you back tab
to get to the list of addresses, you will see the various buttons such
as add, cc,and BCC. There is a hotkey associated with each button: alt
+ A for the to field, alt + C for the CC field and alt + B for the BCC
field. In the latest Thunderbird 78.51, these keystrokes still work.
Use the mark and space method or first letter navigation to arrow down
the list of addresses in your address book and press the appropriate
hotkeys for the To, CC and BCC fields as shown above.

Then tab to the subject line and proceed as usual.

Type the address or use autocomplete or however you want to enter an address, then press enter and either leave the field as it is, or enter another address, then press enter. Repeat until you have the addresses in the field you want. You can place focus on an address by left arrowing. Left arrow more times to place focus on different addresses. You will hear your screen-reader prompt you for how to work with addresses if you let the full address read followed by the prompt.

How to disable the Downloads bar in Chrome
by Fatima Wahab, Jan 17, 2019

When you download files in Chrome, a bar appears at the bottom of the window. It shows the file that’s downloading and its download progress. You can close
this bar by clicking the close button at the right corner. It won’t impact the download. The file will continue to download and you can open the
Downloads page
in Chrome (Ctrl+J) to view download progress. If the bar bothers you and you don’t want to close it each time you download a file, you can disable the
Downloads bar in Chrome with an extension.

In order to disable the Downloads bar in Chrome, you need to install the extension found at the link below.

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/always-clear-downloads-in/efoelbbfbknfhpmgclpcdbkoieedkkai

the Always Clear Downloads extension. This extension can do two things; it can clear your Downloads list, and it can hide the Downloads bar. If you don’t
want the Downloads list to be cleared, you should change its setting first.

To stop the extension from clearing downloads, uncheck the ‘Clear downloads every few seconds’ option. To hide the Downloads bar, enable the ‘Disable download
shelf option’.

That’s really all you need to do. The next time you download a file, you will no longer see the downloads bar. The download will start normally, and you
will still see the green progress indicator on the Chrome taskbar icon.

If you want the extension to also clear your downloads, you should enable the ‘Clear downloads every few seconds’ option and specify how often the downloads
are cleared. By default, the extension clears downloads every ten seconds. This might be too often but you can change it. Unfortunately, you can only specify
the time in seconds so if you want the downloads to clear after every 24 hours, you’re going to have to enter 86,400. To clear them weekly, the number
gets bigger, 604800.

A while back, there was a more popular extension for hiding the downloads bar but it has since disappeared from the Chrome web store. The reason is likely
that Chrome disabled the API the extension used to hide it.
Chrome has undergone quite a design chang
e and it’s likely that during the process, the old extension broke. This one works with the latest version of Chrome. There are others like it but they
focus on clearing the Downloads list which, again, Chrome doesn’t let you do by default.

The good thing about this extension though is that it doesn’t force you to also clear downloads. You can use just one feature and leave the other unused.

Stay safe and take care. Mike.

Glad to help, I haven't used git hub that much so I thought it was
weird how it felt like I was just going round and round in circles. I
decided to explore the original page from top to bottom, then I
clicked on that first 2.2.1 release link and did another top down

pop up frame that logically sits next to the 2.2.1 release link, but
whatever it is, it's just cool that it is there and is downloadable.

I can't work with most settings on the Gail page

Gene

All settings you can work with in Gmail are available in the standard view. Some, but not nearly all, are available in the Basic HTML view. When I am in Standard View and press the settings button, I see a messsage below the button that says settings not available off line. Obviously, I'm online because I'm working with the page on the Internet and I see current messages. A Google search showed no relevant results. Since I almost nevver want to change settings, this isn't a problem but because it is a puzzling problem and because I may someday want access to something, does anyone have any idea what the problem is? I have third party cookies blocked and I may try changing that setting, but Google has never complained about that setting.

I named the folder music, and I don't see it.
Answering genes question from earlier. I ctrl d to book mark the website, I

I'm not seeing music under file/bookmarks.

GitHub is a thorn in my life. I’m trying to download the latest
Audacity scripts, and I can’t seem to find just the installer file
amid all the tables of forks and branches. Can anyone please assist? I
need schooling in how to navigate this blasted repository for
non-coders.

Thanks in advance,

Joe

Re: Blindshell phone questions

That would depend on how one signed up for these messages... But so
you know there is no browser on the Blindshell Classic phone so if it
involves visiting a website on the phone, the answer is no.

If they're text messages I don't see any reason why they would not arrive
like any other text messages would Terri. Unless there's something about
these types of messages which would make them behave differently than normal
text messages.

Hi Terri,

Yes, you can accessibly review and edit your text messages whether you
entered it manually or used the voice recognition to enter your message.

I have not personally run into any text messages I wasn't able to read.

I don't know what you mean by news and similar notifications. Would
these be arriving as text messages, or email messages?

Stay safe,

Laz

Re: Blindshell phone questions

I suspect these are push notifications.  My first question is whether the browser in the phone is good enough to use at all extensively.  Is the point of push notifications to provide links to get more information or are they considered complete in themselves?

I don't use such services. Are these texts or push notifications? I don't use those either but without knowing wich is being discussed and not knowing if they are all treated the same way, do we need more information to answer the question?

Re: help needed please

Gene

The clear downloads option is already unchecked. You don't have to worry about the extension changing anything before you get a chance to uncheck that option if you don't want it on.

The hide download shelf checkbox is not checked by default and you must check it to have that option, which stops automatic progress announcements to be on.

Here's the article plus the extension link. The article is below the 2 links.

Article link:

https://www.addictivetips.com/web/disable-the-downloads-bar-in-chrome/

the Always Clear Downloads extension link:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/always-clear-downloads-in/efoelbbfbknfhpmgclpcdbkoieedkkai

Mike.

it now. When I am downloading something, Jaws keeps announcing the
download process every 3 or 5 seconds and it interrupts anything I am
doing on the computer. How can I stop this nuissance please?
I am using windows 7 with jaws 16 on a dell computer.
Thanks
