Hi Melissa,

this version of Eloquence that Geoff Eden is talking about works great, probably every bit as good as the Eloquence with Jaws and is what I was going to send you.

Stay safe and take care.  Mike.

I agree that a soft nylon cane holster would be very nice, but I have never seen one. I have the denim one and also a leather one, but the leather one is very stiff and bulky . The denim one is smaller and less bulky.

Gene:

I have a cane holster to keep the folding cane in when I am not using it. i.e. When you are sitting in a restaurant, on an airplane, or anywhere you are sitting when you are not using your cane. Otherwise, you would have to hold on to it all the time, or lay it on the ground or in your lap.

Also, if I have a sighted guide for some of the time, I can holster the cane and have my hand free. Very handy.

Re: nylon cane holsters?

Gene

I've never heard of a cane holster. Why are they used? If it’s a folding cane, the elastic band at the top of the cane can be looped around it to keep it folded. I assume that is what is being discussed, something you keep a folding cane in but why?

Hi,
I bought the Code Factory package two months ago mentioned by Gene on the link provided by David Goldfield. Because of my hearing-impairment, voice consistency is also an important aspect apart from the responsiveness mentioned by Melissa. The Eloquence works great for my latest NVDA. If there's any difference between the Eloquence used by JAWS and the one in this Code Factory, I certainly cannot distinguish between the two, save that I'm totally satisfied with my purchase which serves my needs using NVDA perfectly.
Kind regards,
Tim.

I'm not sure what you are referring to. There is a legal add-on for NVDA that provides Eloquence and Vocalizer, both in the same add-on. There is also a SAPI5 version of Eloquence that you can use with any program that supports the SAPI5 interface.

Both have demos and you can see what you think of them.

Hi.

See below for my answers.

> how do I set the Laptop to my network?

During setup the laptop will ask you which wifi network you want to

connect to. Find yours in the list, hit connect on it and follow the

prompts.

> Are there any Laptops with the num pad?

Typically a laptop with a 15.6 inch or larger screen would include a num

pad. 14 inch machines usually don't have one.

> How accessible  is Windows ten mail?

I haven't used it on a daily basis so can't really comment on it's

accessibility, but from playing with it it seems reasonably accessible.

I personally much prefer thunderbird although accessibility has little

to do with that preference.

> I do not have any eyes available to help me set this up, so I am

going from Windows 7 computer to Windows ten Laptop,

A tip. Don't dismiss narator out of hand, especially during setup. It

has gotten dramatic improvements from the joke it used to be on win7. I

personally feel there is very little reason to buy jaws anymore with

nvda having gotten as good as it is and narator being more than good

enough as a backup option.

The keyboard shortcut to toggle narator is control windows enter.

Good luck.

Hello everyone,

I’m thinking of translating some useful jaws scripts into Spanish, at least, that is what I would like to do; however, I don’t have any experience either scripting or programming, so I’m on the lookout for information about how to translate and test the scripts  post translation process. On the web, I have found valuable information written by the jaw’s scripter Doug Lee, and even when those guidelines have been described in  minute detail, I still don’t   know which program I should use to modify the messages and announcements  that jaws would verbalize, taking into consideration that files with different extensions must be modified for the changes to be effective.

So, I would really appreciate if someone can provide more information or indicate a website I which I can find further information.

Thanks!

talking contactless forehead thermometers

Troy Burnham

Hi all,

I bought a new infrared contactless forehead thermometer from the blind mice megamall a few months ago, and we used it once since then and it worked but now it doesn't. Has anybody else had trouble with thermometers like this? We always remove the batteries and put them back in when we need to use it, and this morning we tried multiple sets of batteries to make sure the first set wasn't dead and we still can't make it work.

This actually isn't the first time we've had something like this happen either, before I bought the thermometer we have now we had another one that didn't work when we tried to use it after a while of not needing it.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions, I don't know if these thermometers need to be stored a certain way so they don't get messed up.
