Thanks so much for putting me on to this app.  Also, using ‘Picture Smart’, to check the text, is amazing.  Now I know exactly how the scan turned out without sighted help.  Thanks again for the great tip.

Gene,
I think I sent out a message asking for advice on buying a new Laptop some
days ago, but I didn't get any answers so I tried doing some research
myself, and I'm hoping I picked the right Laptop though! I never picked out
a pc before, as I always just felt intimidated just hearing about mother
boards, processors, memory, etc, so this is my first time, so we'll see how
I did. Smile! I have to admit I didn't realize how exspensive Laptops
could be, but as they say it really all depends on what one will be using
the pc or Laptop for. I contemplated for at least two years, if I want to
buy a Apple iPad, or a Windows Laptop, and I finally decided I will stay
with Windows, and with all the Christmas sales, I thought this would be a
good time for me to get a nice Laptop at a reasonable price, so I didn't
have much time, so that is why I needed as much information I could get in a
short time. I've never even heard of a Lenovo Laptop before, so all this is
new to me. Although, I do think I am really going to like this Lenovo!

starter version of Word for Windows 7 that manufacturers could put on but
they haven't had anything of the sort for a long time.

If you tell us what you want to do, you might get better tailored

Hi Madison and All,
I'm getting my Laptop from Best Buy. I am worried about setting it up, as I've never did that before. Although, I would like to try and learn how to set it up, if it isn't too difficult, but I'm not sure. I'm thinking worse case scenario, I might have to take it to Best Buy to get them to help me with it. Yes, I do use JAWS, but I'm hopeing once I get used to the Laptop, I will try and learn how to use NVDA as well. I'm also thinking I might need a new modem as well as a router, as the ones I have are just so old!

Hi Janit,
I have a Linovo, and I love it!!!!! It's not a touch screen, but even if it was
I wouldn't use it. It's fast, has good speakers, small, lightweight, and easy to
use!!!! Then again I use my computer for pretty basic stuff, emails, Internet
browsing and such, so I don't want/need a real fancy or high-end laptop.
Congrads on your purchase, I hope you'll be happy with it and don't have too
many (or better yet no) issues and that it lasts you a long time!!!!!

There is a difference between a word processor used for writing and editing

Hi Everyone,
I am wanting to buy a Windows Laptop, but I don't know what to look for in a
good Word Processor though, as I've noticed some Laptops have different
processors in them, so I'm not for sure what to look for.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Gene,
I know the list wasn't ignoring me, but I wanted to get this Laptop as it was on sale at Amazon, but I couldn't use the price match feature myself that Best Buy had, so I had to get a sighted person to use the chat feature, so I could save $100.00. I just needed as much information as I could get in a quick time. I am sorry if anyone thought I was saying people were ignoring me, as that wasn't my intend at all.

You likely got a machine you will be satisfied with. You aren't doing
demanding things. I sent you another message before I saw yours. I don’t
know if you want to consider Computers for the blind or if you want to get
what you purchased.

I hope you give the list more time to discuss a question like this in
future. The list had just started discussing it. People hadn't ignored the
question, they just started discussing it over a number of hours rather than
sending a lot of messages right away.

Hi Gene,
I didn't mean to ask for Word Processor, I meant to ask for Processor of the
Laptop I was wanting to buy, I will be doing basic editing, using email,
surfing the internet, using Zoom, but all of this is pretty basic I think.
Smile. I just bought a Lenovo, I hope it is right, as it sounded pretty
good to me. I thought $499 sounded pretty good, as I searched and search
myself, and had other people searching, and all the Laptops were quite
exspensive. That is why I sent a couple messages out to the list, but didn't
get any advice is what kind of Laptop to buy.

Do you just want to do rather simple work or do you want more complex
abilities? I suspect that in general, word processors manufacturers put on
Windows machines are free, and maybe open source. Microsoft used to have a
starter version of Word for Windows 7 that manufacturers could put on but
they haven't had anything of the sort for a long time.

If you tell us what you want to do, you might get better tailored
suggestions There are many free word processors to choose from and I
wouldn't buy a computer based on what may be included if you can get a
better laptop at a cheaper price without one or with a different one than
people like. JARTE is a good one. Open Office and Libre Office may be good
ones. Others will have to comment on that. You can install all of them
yourself. Even if you aren't comfortable installing programs, you may be
able to get enough help from the list to allow you to do so.

HI Gene,
I really don't care if MS is free or just a demo, I can't stand that MS at all. I don't have any intentions of even using it because of all those whistles- bells! I had to use MS for many many years when I was working, but now, I just don't need Ms, and I'm hopeing I will never have to use it again! Although, because I still can't get Thunderbird set up on my Windows 7, maybe I can set up Thunderbird on the Windows 10, just a thought.

I wonder what free means. It could be a demo that will time out or it could
be something bundled with the computer but if it is a free bundle, it may
well increase the cost of the computer. I haven't seen anything on how
much, but I'd be suspicious that you are paying something.

Repeated prompting for Apple account password on iPhone SE 2020

Anyone else having a situation where your phone keeps asking for your Apple password?  Last evening, my phone prompted me to re-enter my password.  I did, and then got a notification that my Apple account was locked.  I followed the instructions and unlocked it, but I continue to be prompted to enter my password.  I wonder if I have been hacked.  I know that there is a storm of foreign hacking going on.  Thanks in advance for your input.

Re: Exact Images of Documents or Files, How to Using Windows, Fax and Scan

When you go into the Scanned Documents folder copy the image.jpeg file to the clipboard.
Now go to, "C:\ Users \ Your name \ Pictures \ PictureSmart, and paste the image into the Picture Smart folder and Jaws should start analyzing it right away.
Click on, link more results, to get more information, and if you want you can select all text and paste into a text file or paste into a Word document and save it as  a .TXT, .docx or .PDF.

To use Picture Smart, the "submit annonymous usage data" option must be enabled in Settings Center. This sends encrypted information to Freedom Scientific.
The images from Picture Smart are then submitted to the various services (such as Microsoft and Google) which analyze the images and returns the descriptions
back to us. These descriptions are then displayed in the Results Viewer. If you attempt to use Picture Smart and this setting is off, a message displays
prompting you to turn it on.

Stay safe and take care.  Mike.

The Spell Checker is very easy to use.  As for your question about
Passwords, I do not have an answer for that as I never use protected
files.    Perhaps someone else can answer that question.

The lay out of Jarte is like the old pull down menus from the Office
2003 and before.  Very simple to use.

the only thing I don't care for is its inability to save in a modern
file format such as Word 2019, 2016, 2013 etc.

I think it will let you save in 2007 format, but I might be wrong.  I
always save in an RTF format, which works for what I do, but it may not
work if you are trading files with co-workers using a new edition of MS
Word.

I see this as being one of those things to protect the list. No one
will probably care though. I wouldn't pay for eloquence though. It's
great it's what I use with jaws and I thought about getting the sapi

When I see this done on the lists I follow, and its very rare, it appears to

usually result from ignorance of the prohibition or the belief of the member

So, on this list, my policy as owner is to remove such messages from the

even if the 20 or so year old IBM software were modified, I don't think that

a quart is really going to care if a handful of blind people are using some

20-year-old software which has been slightly modified to work with modern
computer systems. they would probably just laugh at you, throw the case out,

and not care. if I were a judge on a court, that's what I would do. Now if
this were sighted people pirating some kind of major piece of software then

it would be a different story. for example if if vocalizer were pirated by a

bunch of people who could see or some other modern currently sold speech
software then yes that would be a big deal. A handful of blind people
modifying and using some 20-year-old or 23 or 24-year-old piece of speech
software I really don't think a quart is going to care. yes using eloquence

illegally is illegal because code factory currently sells it. But IBM via
voice, I think that may be a different matter because it is considered a
separate product. For example, you can easily get a hold of homepage reader

from the Internet archive and get a hold of IBM via voice. Even though
homepage reader would be a demo, via voice is not a demo. There are also
other places where you can get IBM via voice speech software from 1998 or
1999 or so. I am pretty sure that IBM via voice is considered or was
considered a separate product from eloquence. JAWS uses eloquence, it does

not use via voice.
