Although MS Word has lots of extras, you are not forced to use any of them. I use Word every day just as a casual word processor. The plus is being able to send the file and have it opened by other MS Word users without any difficulty. And there are features I enjoy, such as password protecting a private document, and hot keys to quickly accomplish many frequent tasks.

HI Gene,
I really don't care if MS is free or just a demo, I can't stand that MS at all. I don't have any intentions of even using it because of all those whistles- bells! I had to use MS for many many years when I was working, but now, I just don't need Ms, and I'm hopeing I will never have to use it again! Although, because I still can't get Thunderbird set up on my Windows 7, maybe I can set up Thunderbird on the Windows 10, just a thought.

I wonder what free means. It could be a demo that will time out or it could
be something bundled with the computer but if it is a free bundle, it may
well increase the cost of the computer. I haven't seen anything on how
much, but I'd be suspicious that you are paying something.

I have MS Word 2019, or what ever the latest version is today. However,
I hate using it.

I just don't need all those Bells and Whistles that has bloated up MS
Word over the years.

I use a small Word Processor called Jarte. It is very simple and works
well with my Screen Readers.

If you are interested, you can find it at www.jarte.com

It is Free unless you wanted a slightly more feature filled version
which will cost you $29.

The only thing I see as a negitive is that this Word Processor does not
Save files in MS Words newest format. Which doesn't matter to me, but
it might to you.

Anyone else having a situation where your phone keeps asking for your Apple password?  Last evening, my phone prompted me to re-enter my password.  I did, and then got a notification that my Apple account was locked.  I followed the instructions and unlocked it, but I continue to be prompted to enter my password.  I wonder if I have been hacked.  I know that there is a storm of foreign hacking going on.  Thanks in advance for your input.

Hi Holly,

Also, when someone sighted needs to view a file of yours and they need to see it in a exact view, and I do mean exact view and not Openbook's exact view, sending an image of the file is the way to go or, vice-versa!  I've been going through my important files and making images from them verses having the Openbook scanned files.  With some very important legal files, oh hell what a difference!  Like mentioned in a different message is how you can copy the text from the image after Picture Smart gets done with it and have a much better file for personal use.

Stay safe and take care.  Mike.

Thanks so much for putting me on to this app.  Also, using ‘Picture Smart’, to check the text, is amazing.  Now I know exactly how the scan turned out without sighted help.  Thanks again for the great tip.

could be, but as they say it really all depends on what one will be using
the pc or Laptop for. I contemplated for at least two years, if I want to
buy a Apple iPad, or a Windows Laptop, and I finally decided I will stay
with Windows, and with all the Christmas sales, I thought this would be a
good time for me to get a nice Laptop at a reasonable price, so I didn't
have much time, so that is why I needed as much information I could get in a

starter version of Word for Windows 7 that manufacturers could put on but

If you tell us what you want to do, you might get better tailored
suggestions There are many free word processors to choose from and I
wouldn't buy a computer based on what may be included if you can get a

I'm getting my Laptop from Best Buy. I am worried about setting it up, as I've never did that before. Although, I would like to try and learn how to set it up, if it isn't too difficult, but I'm not sure. I'm thinking worse case scenario, I might have to take it to Best Buy to get them to help me with it. Yes, I do use JAWS, but I'm hopeing once I get used to the Laptop, I will try and learn how to use NVDA as well. I'm also thinking I might need a new modem as well as a router, as the ones I have are just so old!

I have a Linovo, and I love it!!!!! It's not a touch screen, but even if it was

Congrads on your purchase, I hope you'll be happy with it and don't have too

Janet,
There is a difference between a word processor used for writing and editing
documents as opposed to a processor in a computer which can determine its
overall speed and performance. Which term are you wanting more information
about?

Hi Everyone,
I am wanting to buy a Windows Laptop, but I don't know what to look for in a
good Word Processor though, as I've noticed some Laptops have different
processors in them, so I'm not for sure what to look for.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I didn't assume you were saying that and I don't think others would either. I didn't know why you had asked and then bought a computer the same day. I didn't know if you had gotten impatient or had gotten the computer for another reason but I said the list wasn't ignoring you in case you were impatient and decided to get one because you thought it might take an unreasonable amount of time to get an answer.

I know the list wasn't ignoring me, but I wanted to get this Laptop as it was on sale at Amazon, but I couldn't use the price match feature myself that Best Buy had, so I had to get a sighted person to use the chat feature, so I could save $100.00. I just needed as much information as I could get in a quick time. I am sorry if anyone thought I was saying people were ignoring me, as that wasn't my intend at all.

I hope you give the list more time to discuss a question like this in

sending a lot of messages right away.

Do you just want to do rather simple work or do you want more complex
abilities? I suspect that in general, word processors manufacturers put on
Windows machines are free, and maybe open source. Microsoft used to have a
starter version of Word for Windows 7 that manufacturers could put on but
they haven't had anything of the sort for a long time.

If you tell us what you want to do, you might get better tailored
suggestions There are many free word processors to choose from and I
wouldn't buy a computer based on what may be included if you can get a
better laptop at a cheaper price without one or with a different one than
people like. JARTE is a good one. Open Office and Libre Office may be good
ones. Others will have to comment on that. You can install all of them
yourself. Even if you aren't comfortable installing programs, you may be
able to get enough help from the list to allow you to do so.

HI Gene,
I really don't care if MS is free or just a demo, I can't stand that MS at all.

Repeated prompting for Apple account password on iPhone SE 2020

Steven Johnson <saxmonger@...>

Anyone else having a situation where your phone keeps asking for your Apple password?  Last evening, my phone prompted me to re-enter my password.  I did, and then got a notification that my Apple account was locked.  I followed the instructions and unlocked it, but I continue to be prompted to enter my password.  I wonder if I have been hacked.  I know that there is a storm of foreign hacking going on.  Thanks in advance for your input.

Re: Exact Images of Documents or Files, How to Using Windows, Fax and Scan

When you go into the Scanned Documents folder copy the image.jpeg file to the clipboard.
Now go to, "C:\ Users \ Your name \ Pictures \ PictureSmart, and paste the image into the Picture Smart folder and Jaws should start analyzing it right away.
Click on, link more results, to get more information, and if you want you can select all text and paste into a text file or paste into a Word document and save it as  a .TXT, .docx or .PDF.

To use Picture Smart, the "submit annonymous usage data" option must be enabled in Settings Center. This sends encrypted information to Freedom Scientific.
The images from Picture Smart are then submitted to the various services (such as Microsoft and Google) which analyze the images and returns the descriptions
back to us. These descriptions are then displayed in the Results Viewer. If you attempt to use Picture Smart and this setting is off, a message displays
prompting you to turn it on.

Stay safe and take care.  Mike.

What am I doing wrong?

Re: Word Processor Suggestions

Dave

The Spell Checker is very easy to use.  As for your question about
Passwords, I do not have an answer for that as I never use protected
files.    Perhaps someone else can answer that question.

The lay out of Jarte is like the old pull down menus from the Office
2003 and before.  Very simple to use.

the only thing I don't care for is its inability to save in a modern
file format such as Word 2019, 2016, 2013 etc.

I think it will let you save in 2007 format, but I might be wrong.  I
always save in an RTF format, which works for what I do, but it may not
work if you are trading files with co-workers using a new edition of MS
Word.
