Although MS Word has lots of extras, you are not forced to use any of them.
I use Word every day just as a casual word processor. The plus is being able
to send the file and have it opened by other MS Word users without any
difficulty. And there are features I enjoy, such as password protecting a
private document, and hot keys to quickly accomplish many frequent tasks.

a wireless headphones question

Hi all,

I'm looking at applestore.com to buy something with my apple e-gift card. About the only thing I've seen so far that I might be interested in are the wireless headphones, but if I buy a set of wireless headphones from applestore.com that will work with my phone will I also be able to use them with other things?  The description just says wireless and not bluetooth, but I don't know much about wireless so maybe they are bluetooth and it's just not mentioned because they'd be for the iPhone?

Thanks for any help on this matter, as fast as technology is advancing I can't keep up.

Hi Holly,

Also, when someone sighted needs to view a file of yours and they need to see it in a exact view, and I do mean exact view and not Openbook's exact view, sending an image of the file is the way to go or, vice-versa!  I've been going through my important files and making images from them verses having the Openbook scanned files.  With some very important legal files, oh hell what a difference!  Like mentioned in a different message is how you can copy the text from the image after Picture Smart gets done with it and have a much better file for personal use.

Stay safe and take care.  Mike.

I think I sent out a message asking for advice on buying a new Laptop some

a pc before, as I always just felt intimidated just hearing about mother
boards, processors, memory, etc, so this is my first time, so we'll see how
I did. Smile! I have to admit I didn't realize how exspensive Laptops
could be, but as they say it really all depends on what one will be using
the pc or Laptop for. I contemplated for at least two years, if I want to
buy a Apple iPad, or a Windows Laptop, and I finally decided I will stay
with Windows, and with all the Christmas sales, I thought this would be a
good time for me to get a nice Laptop at a reasonable price, so I didn't
have much time, so that is why I needed as much information I could get in a
short time. I've never even heard of a Lenovo Laptop before, so all this is
new to me. Although, I do think I am really going to like this Lenovo!

Do you just want to do rather simple work or do you want more complex
abilities? I suspect that in general, word processors manufacturers put on
Windows machines are free, and maybe open source. Microsoft used to have a
starter version of Word for Windows 7 that manufacturers could put on but
they haven't had anything of the sort for a long time.

If you tell us what you want to do, you might get better tailored
suggestions There are many free word processors to choose from and I
wouldn't buy a computer based on what may be included if you can get a
better laptop at a cheaper price without one or with a different one than
people like. JARTE is a good one. Open Office and Libre Office may be good
ones. Others will have to comment on that. You can install all of them
yourself. Even if you aren't comfortable installing programs, you may be
able to get enough help from the list to allow you to do so.

Hi Everyone,
I am wanting to buy a Windows Laptop, but I don't know what to look for in a
good Word Processor though, as I've noticed some Laptops have different
processors in them, so I'm not for sure what to look for.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Gene,
I think I sent out a message asking for advice on buying a new Laptop some days ago, but I didn't get any answers so I tried doing some research myself, and I'm hoping I picked the right Laptop though! I never picked out a pc before, as I always just felt intimidated just hearing about mother boards, processors, memory, etc, so this is my first time, so we'll see how I did. Smile! I have to admit I didn't realize how exspensive Laptops could be, but as they say it really all depends on what one will be using the pc or Laptop for. I contemplated for at least two years, if I want to buy a Apple iPad, or a Windows Laptop, and I finally decided I will stay with Windows, and with all the Christmas sales, I thought this would be a good time for me to get a nice Laptop at a reasonable price, so I didn't have much time, so that is why I needed as much information I could get in a short time. I've never even heard of a Lenovo Laptop before, so all this is new to me. Although, I do think I am really going to like this Lenovo!

Open Office and Libre Office may be good

able to get enough help from the list to allow you to do so.

Hi Madison and All,
I'm getting my Laptop from Best Buy. I am worried about setting it up, as I've never did that before. Although, I would like to try and learn how to set it up, if it isn't too difficult, but I'm not sure. I'm thinking worse case scenario, I might have to take it to Best Buy to get them to help me with it. Yes, I do use JAWS, but I'm hopeing once I get used to the Laptop, I will try and learn how to use NVDA as well. I'm also thinking I might need a new modem as well as a router, as the ones I have are just so old!

Yes, the Lenovos do sound pretty good, and I like the light weight. I won't be

it already came with the Laptop. I will be using my Lenovo for basic things as
well. I'm a little nervous about setting it up myself though.

Hi Janit,
I have a Linovo, and I love it!!!!! It's not a touch screen, but even if it was
I wouldn't use it. It's fast, has good speakers, small, lightweight, and easy to
use!!!! Then again I use my computer for pretty basic stuff, emails, Internet
browsing and such, so I don't want/need a real fancy or high-end laptop.
Congrads on your purchase, I hope you'll be happy with it and don't have too
many (or better yet no) issues and that it lasts you a long time!!!!!

David this is so true what you are saying, and I didn't mean to say a Word
Processor though, but to say a Processor for the Laptop I was wanting to buy. I
don't really need a Word Processor, as I will only be doing some basic editing.
Thank you for this clarification. I don't know as much about computers as I
would like to. So, you just tought me something. I bought a Lenovo - IdeaPad 3
15" Touch Screen Laptop - Intel Core i5-1035G1 - 12GB Memory - 256GB SSD -
Platinum Grey. I won't use the touch screen though, it came with the Laptop.

There is a difference between a word processor used for writing and editing

HI Gene,
I really don't care if MS is free or just a demo, I can't stand that MS at all. I don't have any intentions of even using it because of all those whistles- bells! I had to use MS for many many years when I was working, but now, I just don't need Ms, and I'm hopeing I will never have to use it again! Although, because I still can't get Thunderbird set up on my Windows 7, maybe I can set up Thunderbird on the Windows 10, just a thought.

be something bundled with the computer but if it is a free bundle, it may
well increase the cost of the computer. I haven't seen anything on how
much, but I'd be suspicious that you are paying something.

Hi Dave,
I can't stand all those Bells and Whistles that usually come with MS either,
although, free MS does come with the Laptop I just bought, but I'm hopeing
I don't have to use that!

Thank you so much.

I have MS Word 2019, or what ever the latest version is today. However,
I hate using it.

I just don't need all those Bells and Whistles that has bloated up MS
Word over the years.

I use a small Word Processor called Jarte. It is very simple and works
well with my Screen Readers.

If you are interested, you can find it at www.jarte.com

It is Free unless you wanted a slightly more feature filled version
which will cost you $29.

The only thing I see as a negitive is that this Word Processor does not
Save files in MS Words newest format. Which doesn't matter to me, but
it might to you.
