Re: my computer no longer plays wave files

Hi, Blaster,

Thank you for the info about the site for obtaining a wave file codex.

I have no idea as to the name of the codex. The only one I found labeled as a codex is something like
K light codex

There's no description of what it is. I could see that it could be checked bvut I sure didn't know to download it, assuming is is what I need.

This is a very hard site to navigate.

I hope you can enlighten me as to how to find and download what I need.

I hate to be a bother.

Joe G.

You may want to reinstall your codecs just in case the one Media
player and VLC has become corrupted. You can get the K-lite codec
pack from this website:

Hi, Listers,

I am using a computer running Win 7. For whatever reason, it no longer will

let me play wave files. This is NOT an association problem. Media Player is

the default program for playing wave files. I also tried VLC, and wave files

still do not play.

I installed CCleaner Professional and wondered if something in that software

cased the problem. I uninstalled it. No luck. Next, I chose a system restore

point which was earlier than the date when Cclear was installed. No good.

There is where I am now. I do a lot with wave files. My CD collection is now

on an external hard drive, backed up with another drive.

In case it means anything, Goldwave permits me to play wave files, but I
don't think there's a way to play all the files in a folder. That is what I

would have to do in order to play a CDE.

I thank you for any way to resolve my dilemma.

Maybe its time for the blind advocacy organizations to become involved. I wonder if the situation has been brought to their attention. This should be a situation where the major organizations would be very willing to cooperate.

How can anybody complain to PayPal for them to take notice? They currently have no customer support of any kind. If you call their customer support phone number at 888-221-1161, as I have been trying to do since October, you will go through a series of menus until you finally get an automated message that tells you that there is no phone help available for your problem. And if you email them at service@paypal.com, you will receive an automated response suggesting that you post your question on their message center. But if you visit their message center and ask your question, you will receive an automated response suggesting articles of interest related to your problem but no direct answer. If anyone has figured out a way tocontact a live person (as opposed to a dead person) at PayPal, please let us know, because I have plenty to tell them.

Did you try different ways of activating the button? While the problem may
be something else, it may be as simple as that the button is not encoded
properly to be activated from the keyboard. I know links can be encoded in
that way, requiring a mouse. I wouldn't be surprised if buttons can be as
well. It is very important for people to describe what they have done and
just what problem is being encountered. I didn't even think of that as a
possibility until you presented the detailed information.

Its too late to try it now, but next time if the problem happens again, try
using whatever you use, the JAWS cursor, I think, to activate the button and
see what happens. I'm not optimistic, but you never know and many times,
there are controls I must use the simulated mouse on on this or that wweb

I do have additional info. What I was trying to do was pay a friend

box and in some browsers I would get a button with his name and so on
and I would press the spacebar or enter, and nothing would happen. I
would try to activate the 'next' button and nothing happened.

Then, my friend sent me a request for money. This I received in email,
and it had a link. I activated the link and boom! I was good to go.
I paid him for fixing this computer and all is well.

I only had trouble when initiating my purchase myself. I don't know
what's with Paypal, but somebody needs to tell them that all their ads

We want a simple interface with controls that work, thank you!

That may be something important when people want ways to deal with the problem. It is very easy to get versions of Firefox portable that old and those versions, being portable, can be used without disrupting the current version of Firefox whichh may be installed or on the machine as a portable.

Re: Jaws Help, Please!

More discussion is needed on this question.

Not quite. Some dialogs don't have ok buttons and actions take immediate effect. Tabbing through a dialog won't cause any problems as you say, but it needs to be pointed out that if you change settings it may. Firefox is an example of a program where the options dialog has no ok button and changes take immediate effect. Probably Thunderbird is as well.

While a lot of dialogs have ok and cancel buttons, it appears to me that more may not than in the past. So tabbing around is fine. Changing settings is something you should be careful about until you have found out if the dialog has an ok and a cancel button.

And if you are looking around in a dialog. never use ok to close it if you don't intend to change any settings. Even if you are sure you haven't changed anything, use cancel or escape if escape works in the dialog. Most of the time, it does and is the same as cancel.

I think sometimes people tend to forget that you can't damage anything
in Windows dialogs unless you press an OK button, so therefore, tabbing

Sorry. Didn't read your complete post.

I haven't sent money in awhile, but when I did last, and was not having any luck putting in a phone number, someone on a list a long while back suggested to 'shift tab' on the 'next' link, and that would open the edit field to put in the recipient's name or number. Don't know if this will still work.

I agree with you that it is ridiculous that this problem exists though.

When you deleted Jaws, the program, not the shortcut on the desktop, you deleted your settings. Go into Jaws with insert-j and make the changes you need. start by activating the menus with your alt key or by typing alt-o.

HI again Shelly. I forgot to mention one thing. If your jaws is not set to run from system tray, pressing insert J will take you to the jaws window but it won't open the menu.
In this case, once you've moved to the jaws window, press alt O to open the options menu, press enter on basics. The rest of the steps are the same is in my previous message.

Hi Group:

I deleted Jaws 2019 and 2020 because I now have Jaws 2021 and I didn't
need the other ones. Since I have taken the other versions off my
computer, now when I turn on the computer to sign in using my pin,
Jaws
2021 no longer says anything like it used to. It would always tell me to sign in and now it's not. Do you know how I can get this to talk again when I first turn on the computer? When I downloaded it a few months ago, I checked everything so it would turn on right away and it did. I'm not sure if we hit something taking off the other programs and now it's not turning on. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Simple Instructions would be most helpful. I'm not tech savvy. When I type in my pin, Jaws does come up but I need it right when I turn on the computer like it was.

Hi,

I've been trying all morning to send money to a friend for some computer
work he had done for me. I can log in. I can type in his email addy or
phone, but then everything goes to hell in a handbasket!
There's no place for an amount, and there's the buttons for all my contacts.
If I wanted one of my contacts, I would have said so! Why can't this be
easy like it used to be?

Hi Shelley,
Okay.
1. Go to the Jaws context menu either by clicking on the Jaws shortcut that's on your desktop (if you have one on your desktop) or by pressing insert j
2. Once you get to the context menu Options will be the first thing that comes up.
3. Enter on options and tab 3 times to Autimatically start Jaws... button
Once you enter on that button a dialog box will come up and the first option is "Start Jaws at the log-on screen" and Jaws will tell you whether it's checked or unchecked. If it's unchecked then check it and tab to the okay button. You'll be asked to restart Jaws, once you do this then everything should be back to normal.
Hope these instructions are clear and simple enough... If not then sorry, hopefully someone else can give you simpler ones.

I don't think we changed anything. Maybe we hit something accidentally when we deleted them. When I downloaded 2021, I checked the box to have Jaws start up when I turn on the computer. If you can tell me where to check that, I would appreciate it. Maybe it got unchecked somehow.

Others will know. I haven't used JAWS for years, but others will tell you.

That's exactly the setting I'm talking about. I want Jaws to start
talking when the log on screen comes up. Do you know where I can find
this setting? Would it be in setting center?

My comments are that once you know how to change the setting, if you look at it and it is already set to do so, set it not to, then set it to do so again. Now and then, a setting will be lost and changing the setting and then returning it to what it should be restores the setting.

Hi Shelly.
The option you want is under basic settings. Press insert J to move to the jaws window. If your jaws is set to run from the system tray, pressing insert J will open the menu and land you on the options sub menu, Press right arrow to expand the options menu. You will hear, basics. Press enter. Tab over to automatically start jaws. Press enter. You will find check boxes for start jaws at the log on screen, as well as whether you want jaws to run for all users, or just you. Check the boxes you want, then tab to the ok button. Tab again to ok and press enter. This should do it.

This happens to me when I use JAWS and Google Chrome. My fix is to use Firefox.
