Madison,
Wow, you're kidding, you didn't get that repair message? Ok now, that I think of it, I'm going to download JAWS 2021 right now, and see if I get the repair message on my Windows 7 machine! If I don't get the repair message, at least I can rule out some things such as gremlins! Smile! Thank you Thank you!

If you do download the latest version of JAWS from their web site, as I did last night, would you please let me know during or after the download, if you got a message saying this version of JAWS needs to be repaired, as I had to repair JAWS 2021? Assuming you might be downloading JAWS 2021.
I would greatly appreciate your help in this, as I am having some serious issues with JAWS 2021.
Thank you.

Re: JAWS and Windows Ten Question Please.

Janet

Madison,
Oh yes this is frustrating all right! Smile! I don't think Windows 10 is too much different either, but I'm just going by from what I've seen so far, and that is only since last Saturday. If I could get JAWS to work, I can find out if I even like Windows 10, but at this point, trying to get used to a Laptop with some keys closer than I would like, and trying to figure out what is the problem with JAWS! LOL! Yes, if you would send me the address to the JAWS list, as I haven't been on one of those list in several years, I would appreciate it. Matter of fact, I was on nomail on one of those list, and I think that list might have closed down.

Thank you again.

Hi Janet,
I get it, I was just asking that's all. I'll be honest, I really don't find
Windows 10 to be much different from Windows 7. I do understand your
frustrations though, and wish I could be of more help. There are Jaws specific
email lists, would you like the info for any of them? If not then I hope that
Freedom Scientific can help you, they're helping me with an issue now, though
yours is way more serious, mine are just minor annoyances.

HI Madison.
As soon as I press shift f10, all I hear is a ding sound, and that is as far as
I can get, so this isn't working. I have been having problems with JAWS 2021,
and I even downloaded a new version of JAWS 2021 thinking maybe JAWS 2021 got
corrupted during the first download. So, after downloading again, I then get a
message saying this version of JAWS needs to be repaired, so I press space or
enter to allow JAWS to repair, and I'm assuming it is repairing, as I hear the
ticking sound as well as a message saying JAWS is preparing to download, and I
get a message about 10 or 15 minutes later saying JAWS has completed the repair,
and I need to restart my computer, so I restart the computer, but JAWS is still
the exact same way. I can't seem to do anything with JAWS 2021 rather on my
Laptop win 10 or PC win 07.
Thank you so much for your instructions, as I wil keep them for further

I don't know how long you have to return the computer or exchange it. You
might want to consider trying a computer from Computers For the Blind.
You'll save a lot of money and the computer, though it will be considerably
slowwer, may satisfy you for what you are going to use it for. You aren't
using the computer for anything that requires a good deal of power. It
comes with JAWS installed and NVDA as well. You may have time to evaluate
it and have time to return the machine yu have now. You can ask if you can
return the machine from Computers For the Blind if you wish. I suspect you
will be able to but you can check. if you can return either machine,
evaluating the Computers for the Blind machine might be a good idea.

Thank you so much, but I paid $1000 for JAWS license, and pay for the MSA
agreement every two years for JAWS updates. JAWS needs to work! I really
don't want to try and use another screen reader right now, as I am trying to

Hi Loy,
Thank you also. So when I type JAWS 2021 in the search field, and press applications key, arrow down, once again I still get Bing, and I continue to arrow down, and I do see the uninstall option, but that is for Bing. Although, when I pressed that, once again nothing happens. I'm just beginning to wonder why every time I try to uninstall JAWS, why does Bing keep coming up.

Bing isn't a browser, it’s a search engine. I don't know enough about Windows 10 to know why you see it as a program. I suspect it is a Windows 10 app that is used by something, maybe the voice assistant.

I have Bing, Edge, IE, on my Windows Ten, I don't need all those browsers, but I can't delete them anyway, so they will just have to stay there. I also have Brave as my default browser, and that is the one I want to use, as I love that browser. So now, soon I will also PUT FireFox on my Windows Ten, so if I need that. So when all is said and done, at the end of the day, I will have a total of 5 browsers, but I will only use 2 of them! I do want to disable Edge and Bing though, as they get in my way sometimes when I am downloading something or searching on the web. Edge is determine to be my default browser, and I am determine he is not going to be my default browser! Smile!

You can change the search engine in your browser. I don't know anything
about Bing in any other way it may exist in Windows 10, as an app perhaps
but don't uninstall things without checking here first. At times, people
uninstall things they want to use in some way later. Programs and apps
don't take a lot of room and its better to leave something installed unless
you definitely know uninstalling it won't mean you can't do something you
want to later.

Ok, I just tried using these steps, but after I type JAWS in the search

uninstall, but that is to uninstall Bing, and matter of fact, I did press on
the uninstall Bing because I don't want Bing as my browser anyway, and it
didn't even uninstall Bing, but if it really did, I didn't get any message
confirming the deletion maybe that's because Bing is a MS app, and I don't
think we can delete any MS apps or Windows programs. Having said all this,
when I would right arrow, or down arrow, I never heard JAWS though.
Although, after I did press enter to uninstall Bing, I got another message
saying programs and features, so I'm assuming I was in the control panel.
It seems like JAWS is installed, but it also seems like JAWS isn't fully
installed. Now, if that makes any sense, I'm not sure.

JAWS in the results.
If I keep down arrowing, I get to uninstall JAWS. There is no need to use

Re: Jaws Updates

It may be that Freedom Scientific may be able to solve the problem. I'm beginning to think that there is either something wrong with or something nonstandard about the Windows installation, though the problem could be something else.

I don't know how long you have to return the computer or exchange it. You might want to consider trying a computer from Computers For the Blind. You'll save a lot of money and the computer, though it will be considerably slowwer, may satisfy you for what you are going to use it for. You aren't using the computer for anything that requires a good deal of power. It comes with JAWS installed and NVDA as well. You may have time to evaluate it and have time to return the machine yu have now. You can ask if you can return the machine from Computers For the Blind if you wish. I suspect you will be able to but you can check. if you can return either machine, evaluating the Computers for the Blind machine might be a good idea.

agreement every two years for JAWS updates. JAWS needs to work! I really don't
want to try and use another screen reader right now, as I am trying to get used
to using a Laptop, and trying to get used to using Windows 10. Wow, what a
learning experience! LOL!

Janet
Smile!
I think I'm going to call freedomscientific.

I'm so sorry you're having so many issues. Hopefully another list member can be
of more help. Do you want to keep trying with Jaws, or would you be willing to
try another screen reader?

Thank you so much for your instructions, as I wil keep them for further
references.

Re: JAWS and Windows Ten Question Please.

Gene,
I have Bing, Edge, IE, on my Windows Ten, I don't need all those browsers, but I can't delete them anyway, so they will just have to stay there.

Although, after I did press enter to uninstall Bing, I got another message

Re: accessible phone

I have the Alkatel Go Flip 3. There is a phone that is much cheaper that many people like. It is supposed to do a lot of what mine does and is about forty dollars while mine is 100 dollars. Others may comment on that phone. I'd have to look a little through e-mails to find its name. I don't know just what mine does that the other one doesn't but you may find that the other one does what you want.

I haven't used the Blind Shell Phone and I don't know how well the browser works. I'm not at all sure a feature phone will do all you want. I can use Youtube with my Phone because it works to some extent with the Google Assistant. If it didn't, the Youtube app on the phone would be inacdcessible. This is a feature phone and means nothing as to what can be done with a smart phone.

While I can probably do Google searches, my browser isn't fully accessible and its annoyingly cumbersome to use the browser at all seriously. There is no read to end command. I can read a [paragraph, then I have to issue a move down command to have the next paragraph read. Reading text of more than a short length is cumbersome to do in that way.

I have no idea if any feature phones have a What's App app.
