Re: NVDA Trouble

I listened a couple of times and I'm trying to work out where you are.  When you said you are in the license, I can hear "Exceptions" and then "drivers and Microsoft".   I can't quite tell what it is saying when you said you pressed tab and the arrows.   Could you please send me a copy of your NVDA log and I'll see if I can find something there.  You can find your log in the %temp% folder called nvda.log (the current or most recently running instance of NVDA) or nvda_old.log (the previous instance).

Attachments get dropped off most lists, so you likely need to send it in an email directly to me offlist - info@...

Kind regards

Quentin.

Madison,
Yes please if you wouldn't mind. . I'm still trying to work with JAWS,
matter
of fact, I went back in to the control Panel, and I found JAWS 2021, and I
selected and removed the JAWS user's settings, and I noticed finally JAWS
2021
has disappeared! I am thinking when I downloaded JAWS , it might be set to
keep
my settings from the last version. I know we get this option, but I can't
remember if I kept those options in the JAWS 2020, and if so, that could
very
well be why JAWS is not behaving. I will now download JAWS 2021 once again,
and
see if that might make a difference. Just meaning because I had the JAWS
2021
that wasn't behaving normally, and just maybe when I downloaded the second
JAWS
it kept the settings from the JAWS that was not behaving. I hope this makes
sense! I will admit this sounds a little confusing! LOL!
Smile!
Thank you so much. !

HI Madison.
As soon as I press shift f10, all I hear is a ding sound, and that is as far
as
I can get, so this isn't working. I have been having problems with JAWS
2021,
and I even downloaded a new version of JAWS 2021 thinking maybe JAWS 2021
got
corrupted during the first download. So, after downloading again, I then
get a
message saying this version of JAWS needs to be repaired, so I press space
or
enter to allow JAWS to repair, and I'm assuming it is repairing, as I hear
the
ticking sound as well as a message saying JAWS is preparing to download, and
I
get a message about 10 or 15 minutes later saying JAWS has completed the
repair,
and I need to restart my computer, so I restart the computer, but JAWS is
still
the exact same way. I can't seem to do anything with JAWS 2021 rather on my
Laptop win 10 or PC win 07.
Thank you so much for your instructions, as I wil keep them for further
references.

Madison,
Oh yes this is frustrating all right! Smile! I don't think Windows 10 is too
much different either, but I'm just going by from what I've seen so far, and
that is only since last Saturday. If I could get JAWS to work, I can find out
if I even like Windows 10, but at this point, trying to get used to a Laptop
with some keys closer than I would like, and trying to figure out what is the
problem with JAWS! LOL! Yes, if you would send me the address to the JAWS
list, as I haven't been on one of those list in several years, I would
appreciate it. Matter of fact, I was on nomail on one of those list, and I
think that list might have closed down.

Thank you again.
Janet

Windows 10 to be much different from Windows 7. I do understand your
frustrations though, and wish I could be of more help. There are Jaws specific

yours is way more serious, mine are just minor annoyances.

and I even downloaded a new version of JAWS 2021 thinking maybe JAWS 2021 got
corrupted during the first download. So, after downloading again, I then get a
message saying this version of JAWS needs to be repaired, so I press space or
enter to allow JAWS to repair, and I'm assuming it is repairing, as I hear the
ticking sound as well as a message saying JAWS is preparing to download, and I
get a message about 10 or 15 minutes later saying JAWS has completed the repair,
and I need to restart my computer, so I restart the computer, but JAWS is still
the exact same way. I can't seem to do anything with JAWS 2021 rather on my
Laptop win 10 or PC win 07.
Thank you so much for your instructions, as I wil keep them for further

Re: JAWS and Windows Ten Question Please.

Madison,
Yes please if you wouldn't mind. . I'm still trying to work with JAWS, matter of fact, I went back in to the control Panel, and I found JAWS 2021, and I selected and removed the JAWS user's settings, and I noticed finally JAWS 2021 has disappeared! I am thinking when I downloaded JAWS , it might be set to keep my settings from the last version. I know we get this option, but I can't remember if I kept those options in the JAWS 2020, and if so, that could very well be why JAWS is not behaving. I will now download JAWS 2021 once again, and see if that might make a difference. Just meaning because I had the JAWS 2021 that wasn't behaving normally, and just maybe when I downloaded the second JAWS it kept the settings from the JAWS that was not behaving. I hope this makes sense! I will admit this sounds a little confusing! LOL!
Smile!
Thank you so much. !

Madison,

How about one that some of the people from FS are on? There used to be a JAWS list with some employees were on. I just can't remember wich one it was, as it has been so long. . ----Original Message-----

that is only since last Saturday. If I could get JAWS to work, I can find out

problem with JAWS! LOL! Yes, if you would send me the address to the JAWS

appreciate it. Matter of fact, I was on nomail on one of those list, and I
think that list might have closed down.

Madison,
Ok, I just tried using these steps, but after I type JAWS in the search
field, and right arrow, all I hear is Bing, and if I down arrow, I do get an
uninstall, but that is to uninstall Bing, and matter of fact, I did press on
the uninstall Bing because I don't want Bing as my browser anyway, and it
didn't even uninstall Bing, but if it really did, I didn't get any message
confirming the deletion maybe that's because Bing is a MS app, and I don't
think we can delete any MS apps or Windows programs. Having said all this,
when I would right arrow, or down arrow, I never heard JAWS though.
Although, after I did press enter to uninstall Bing, I got another message
saying programs and features, so I'm assuming I was in the control panel.
It seems like JAWS is installed, but it also seems like JAWS isn't fully
installed. Now, if that makes any sense, I'm not sure.

Madison,
Ok, I just tried using these steps, but after I type JAWS in the search
field, and right arrow, all I hear is Bing, and if I down arrow, I do get an
uninstall, but that is to uninstall Bing, and matter of fact, I did press on
the uninstall Bing because I don't want Bing as my browser anyway, and it
didn't even uninstall Bing, but if it really did, I didn't get any message
confirming the deletion maybe that's because Bing is a MS app, and I don't
think we can delete any MS apps or Windows programs.

I can't tell you just how this is done in Windows 10. If I press and
release
the Windows key in Windows 7, then type jaws, the start menu search shows me
JAWS in the results.
If I keep down arrowing, I get to uninstall JAWS. There is no need to use
shift
f10.

HI Madison.
As soon as I press shift f10, all I hear is a ding sound, and that is as far
as
I can get, so this isn't working. I have been having problems with JAWS
2021,
and I even downloaded a new version of JAWS 2021 thinking maybe JAWS
2021 got corrupted during the first download. So, after downloading again,
I
then get a message saying this version of JAWS needs to be repaired, so I
press
space or enter to allow JAWS to repair, and I'm assuming it is repairing, as
I
hear the ticking sound as well as a message saying JAWS is preparing to
download, and I get a message about 10 or 15 minutes later saying JAWS has
completed the repair, and I need to restart my computer, so I restart the
computer, but JAWS is still the exact same way. I can't seem to do anything
with JAWS 2021 rather on my Laptop win 10 or PC win 07.
Thank you so much for your instructions, as I wil keep them for further
references.

Madison,
Wow, you're kidding, you didn't get that repair message? Ok now, that I think of it, I'm going to download JAWS 2021 right now, and see if I get the repair message on my Windows 7 machine! If I don't get the repair message, at least I can rule out some things such as gremlins! Smile! Thank you Thank you!

If you do download the latest version of JAWS from their web site, as I did last night, would you please let me know during or after the download, if you got a message saying this version of JAWS needs to be repaired, as I had to repair JAWS 2021? Assuming you might be downloading JAWS 2021.
I would greatly appreciate your help in this, as I am having some serious issues with JAWS 2021.
Thank you.

Madison,
Oh yes this is frustrating all right! Smile! I don't think Windows 10 is too much different either, but I'm just going by from what I've seen so far, and that is only since last Saturday. If I could get JAWS to work, I can find out if I even like Windows 10, but at this point, trying to get used to a Laptop with some keys closer than I would like, and trying to figure out what is the problem with JAWS! LOL! Yes, if you would send me the address to the JAWS list, as I haven't been on one of those list in several years, I would appreciate it. Matter of fact, I was on nomail on one of those list, and I think that list might have closed down.

Thank you again.

Hi Janet,
I get it, I was just asking that's all. I'll be honest, I really don't find
Windows 10 to be much different from Windows 7. I do understand your
frustrations though, and wish I could be of more help. There are Jaws specific
email lists, would you like the info for any of them? If not then I hope that
Freedom Scientific can help you, they're helping me with an issue now, though
yours is way more serious, mine are just minor annoyances.

HI Madison,
Thank you so much, but I paid $1000 for JAWS license, and pay for the MSA
agreement every two years for JAWS updates. JAWS needs to work! I really don't
want to try and use another screen reader right now, as I am trying to get used
to using a Laptop, and trying to get used to using Windows 10. Wow, what a
learning experience! LOL!

Gene,
Thank you for this, as this is something to think about. I have 15 days to return this Laptop to Best Buy, and the countdown of the 15 days started when I picked it up this last Saturday. Although, I really don't think it is the Laptop, I'm pretty sure this is on the end of JAWS just for the simple fact, JAWS 2021 performs the exact same way on my Windows 7. I just thought when I would put JAWS 2021 on my Windows 10, it might perform better, but it isn't, as JAWS 2021 performs on my Windows 7 it is the same on my Windows 10.

It may be that Freedom Scientific may be able to solve the problem. I'm
beginning to think that there is either something wrong with or something
nonstandard about the Windows installation, though the problem could be
something else.

I don't know how long you have to return the computer or exchange it. You
might want to consider trying a computer from Computers For the Blind.
You'll save a lot of money and the computer, though it will be considerably
slowwer, may satisfy you for what you are going to use it for. You aren't
using the computer for anything that requires a good deal of power. It
comes with JAWS installed and NVDA as well. You may have time to evaluate
it and have time to return the machine yu have now. You can ask if you can
return the machine from Computers For the Blind if you wish. I suspect you
will be able to but you can check. if you can return either machine,
evaluating the Computers for the Blind machine might be a good idea.
