Re: Question from a friend regarding Focus 14 braille display

Hi Nancy,

You can find the manual of the Focus 14 on the Freedomscientific.com page. This device is called Focus 14 because it has only 14 cells. I think that the following model is the Focus 40 and it is which I have. If your device is new, you can return it to Freedomscientific and might consider other choices with more cells. However, the price is also going to increase exponentially with the numbers of braille cells. Thanks,

Subject: [TechTalk] Question from a friend regarding Focus 14 braille display I just purchased a Focus 14 braille display. It’s made by Freedom Scientific. I realize that there are only 14 cells. So when I’m trying to read the title of a music file in a flash drive, I can only see the first part of the file. How can I see the rest of the file? For example I see the artist, so where is the downarrow button to see the title? And where can I get a manual to learn this unit? It has only 14 curser keys. The keys are, a space bar, then left, 1 2 3 and back. Then 4 5 6 and I think it’s enter. Then on the top of the unit on the right and left side are what I think are up and down arrows. But they take me to the next file, instead of reading the rest of the line. When I set it up with my Apple Mac Mini, I set up the input and output to 6 dot contracted braille. To the left and right of the 14 curser buttons is are two round buttons, one left of curser buttons and one right of the 14 curser buttons, but they don’t do anything. In front of the display are 8 keys. This has a Perkins style keyboard. Hope this helps. Thanks in advance. -- Nancy Shackelford --Walk On Faith And Trust In Love - Michael Reid--

New JAWS Update Out Today, JAWS2021.2012.57 Update Download Link + What's New
Mike B <mb69mach1@...>
Hi All,
Out today, this update fixes the popping sound
heard for the, O, sound + more, read below.
32 & 64 bit download link:
What's new:
Enhancements in JAWS 2021.2012.57 (January 19, 2021)
This update addresses a few key issues that were reported shortly after the January 2021 release. To download the latest release, click on the link above You must be logged on as an administrator to install this software.
list of 8 items • A new feature was introduced earlier this month, designed to let a user change the volume of JAWS speaking or the system volume itself using a layered keystroke: INSERT+SPACE, V followed by J for JAWS or S for System. Since this change, Eloquence users reported hearing Ticks when reading and typing, especially around the letter O. We also had reports of the volume randomly changing when reading documents or web pages. These issues are now resolved. • Resolved an issue where pressing INSERT+ALT+SPACEBAR was not starting the Voice Assistant in JAWS or Fusion. • The JAWS voice commands to speak faster or slower now adjusts the speech in larger increments. • Addressed an issue where JAWS was not reading table headings in Excel. • Added a new JAWS Dictionary entry for "DocuSign." • When spell checking a document in Word, resolved an issue where JAWS was not reading as expected when navigating by word through the text containing the error. • Resolved an issue where attachments were not being reported correctly in the Danish version of Outlook 2019. • In the Italian version of JAWS, addressed an issue where the keystrokes to access the Braille and Text Viewer layer, as well as the Volume layer, were not working as expected. list end Stay safe and take care. Mike.

changing the color of pictures in Microsoft paint for windows10
Josh Kennedy
Hi if I open a picture in paint, in windows10, not paint 3d, regular old paint, anyway is there a way I can find out what color the picture is, and if it is too light a color, can I change the color of the picture to gray, red, or brown? a darker color? I tried embossing some clipart I got from google images filtering by clipart and I am guessing the colors are too light because the dots came out light on the paper. if I can darken the color I could get a better tactile graphic from the braille buddy embosser. thanks for any tips for manipulating images in microsoft paint.

Still having trouble with my Apple Watch
Sharon Hooley
Hi again,
I'm still having trouble with leaving the info about what's new, data usage, info about AppleID. I understand that there's an okay button on the Apple Watch, which is up-to-date, that quickly disappears, but how do I get to it before it's lost? I can get to the screen that says close, then done, but it goes right back to the first screen. Sometimes I manage to leave the whole thing, which I guess happens when I dismiss an alarm, but then later it goes back to those screens. I don't like scrambling to activate things! Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Is it hard to communicate, even with hearing aids? Visit www.CochlearAmericas.com

Re: Google device or Alexa device?
Gene
My feature phone uses the Google assistant for limited purposes. It will play specific songs asked for. It is logical to assume that this is the behavior of the Google Assistant on smart phones or any phones that can work with Youtube.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
The Google Home, evidently, doesn't allow this. Gene

Gene, if you have a YouTube Music subscription, or a subscription to another service such as Spotify or Pandora, you will be able to play specific songs. If no subscriptions to any service, then songs will be played at random and, a requested song may be somewhere at number 15 in the list of songs being played. Of course, one or two ads will be played between songs. Particular genres can be selected even without a subscription; example, I could say: "Hey (or OK) Google" play Smooth Jazz; Google Home (or the Assistant) will launch YouTube Music and begin playing the requested genres. Ok, I don't know how this feature will work on a feature phone, but in My Shiny Android Toys world, it's all good! Sincerely, Olusegun Denver, Colorado

Supposedly, you wear this thing around your neck and it's a camera and you can push a button and get someone live and these people do this for a living by giving people directions. It can probably be used for something else as well but I am very intrigued and was wondering if any of you have heard about it? I have no idea what it's called but my friend told me about it. I do know of an app on the phone that is similar but this is a device that goes around your neck so the person can see where you are going. Thanks in advance and if none of you heard of this, I will tell my friend she is totally off. Shelly
