If you're talking about Windows 10, you should
have it installed by default. If I'm not mistaken, if you're running a
different antivirus program, and you disable it, Windows Defender is supposed to
start up after rebooting but, I'm not 100% sure about this. Also, I'm not
sure in which version of Windows 10 but, Microsoft changed Defender's name to
Windows Security.
Stay safe and take care. Mike.

I was trying to use the stocks app off the iPhone, guess I forgot that freedom changed it’s name woe. Maybe that was why I was not having luck finding what I wanted off google. I seem to remember as high school students, our class was given grant money or something. We were allowed to use the money to invest in the market and the money we made funding school projects. I think we made 25 thousand dollars from this project. I always wondered what happen to this now as I think it was just befor the tec bubble in 2000! Cheers, Thank everyone for their info, always like to learn something knew! Heather

With Google on the Computer, in the Search Bar, just type:
How much is one share of whatever stock.
Enter, and Arrow down to Skip to topic, or whatever it is, hit Enter. Most of the time, you will get to something like Market Summary. Arrow down to get the information.
Then, on my computer, I can page up, and I think maybe Down Arrow once, back space, and I'm back in the Search Bar if I want to ask about another stock.
I find Google is a little better than Siri, who simply cannot find Duke Energy or DUK (the symbol).

Re: question why is something that is a non proffit still making money?
Steve Matzura
LOL, non-profit doesn't mean they don't have bills to pay and need money to do that.Non-profit simply means that at the end of the year, their account ledger can't be in the plus column. They either have to break even or lose money to maintain that NP status. It's perfectly legitimate for NP's to make money. I've worked for several over the years part-time and been paid quite well for my services thereto.

Madison Martin
Hi all,
I was able to add this email address to my profile on Facebook, but notifications are still going to my old email. How do I change it so that they get sent to this address? I saw that there's a link to remove this address from my profile, but there didn't seem to be one to remove my old email address. I'm using mbasic.facebook.com, the latest Edge, the latest Jaws 2021, and Windows 10 version 2004. Thanks Madison

The sad news is that I owned Game Stop stock about four years ago and kept it for about two years. It never went anywhere, so sold it over a year ago. Talk about a bummer! I think I bought it for about $8 a share. 😢

I've seldom done it. But its easier to get quotes that way than I thought. I usually search with JAVA scripts turned off so my results are displayed differently. with JAVA scripts on, it is much easier to find the quote.

I have some friends, and their church had something like $300,000, so for tax preservation, they had to invest. I would have given it to missions, but they got new carpeting for all of the church, which, I guess was OK, because probably eventually they'd have to do that.

Hi all the topic of stocks made me wonder this why does something that says it is non profit still make money or need to? Since I thought that proffet ment that it was a money making thing? So if something is non profit shouldn’t it not make money and there for not have to pay any one and they can just work for free? From Mich Verrier from New Liskeard Ontario Canada.

Re: inspired by red it stocks
Gene
I should add that I don't know that much about investing so what I said may be partly misleading or some things may be wrong. For example, while thinking about this further, I think I was wrong about new issues of stock being the time to buy in bulk if you have a lot of wealth and want to move a stock price higher, helping the company to make more money. I don't think the company will make more money as the price goes up. Those who know more may wich to comment. I believe the company makes a certain amount per share when it offers new stock when it is purchased bythe first purchasers. After that, it is traded among investors and as far as I know the company doesn't make money from those trades. But if a company stocks are rising in value, they can charge a higher price when offering new stock and make more money that way. So if a stock is at a certain price at the time of a new offer, it can make more money.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
When I say you should nvest for return, I'm not saying that movements to buy or not buy certain stocks may not make a difference in a companies profitability. My impression is that they often don't but I suspect that in cases where people decide as a large group at a certain time or over a period of time to invest in something like green technology companies, that such trends will increase the value of the sector and help finance such companies and help new or newer companies get started. But as I said, whether you, as an individual invest in a blindness tech company makes no difference unless you have the wealth to move that stock in the market and that move may not be permanent.. No, not what you and I are familiar with. NVDA is for Nvidia, and, if memory serves, the company makes graphics cards for computers; it's possible it makes other products, but that's what made it popular. Sincerely, Olusegun Denver, Colorado

I honestly wish I could find a good group with stock advice. Something

really teaching the little guy how to get started, best platforms to get started, and maybe a few stocks to really get going. I wish I had gotten gamestop a few weeks ago. Should have put all my holiday cash behind that one.

There is no stock, as the company is privately held.

That's ccorrect, the company is the same. I had forgotten it is the same company with a new and ridiculous name. It sounds like a bird.

Vispero/Freedom Scientific most certainly does still own JAWS. Despite the new name of the company, they still use the Freedom Scientific name in the addresses of web sites for JAWS, Open Book and Zoom downloads, and still refer to their podcasts as FSCasts. So the Freedom Scientific name is still widely used by the company and has not been officially phased out entirely. Gerald On 1/29/2021 8:44 AM, Gene wrote: Freedom Scientiffic no longer owns JAWS. The name of the company has changed. Its something like vispero. (spelling) I haven't done this for a long time, but You evidently can't, in any systematic way, find stock prices by doing Google searches. There are sites where you can get the value of stocks. I'll let those who know far more about the subject go into that further. I have no idea if voice assistants will get you such information. I haven't read about the story, but I know it is around. I intend to learn more about it. How do you intend to invest? It won't make any difference if you buy stock in a company, assuming the stock is fully purchased. You are buyng stock from another holder and no money is raised in that way by the company. The stocck continues to trade because when companies want to issue new stock to raise more money, the new stock has a value, whatever the value of the old stock is at the time of issue. If there are other wways of investing in such companies, I am not aware of them. I can't tell you what methods may raise more money for any specific company. I can tell you that if you want to help a company that depends a good deal on contributions, you can contribute to NVDA. It isn't investing, it’s a contribution. As far as searching with Google, the site, type your search in the edit field and press enter. Then, after a short pause, start moving through the page using h for heading. All results are displayed by heading. Sighted people search constantly and they often use an actual site interface. If blind people don't know how to search, they are putting themselves at a significant information disadvantage. I'm not saying that as criticism of you, I'm saying it because it may encourage more people to try searching. Despite what you may have heard about complexities of searching, just type what you want to know. You can use full sentences or phrases. Most snowfall in Chicago for example, or what is the most snowfall in Chicago history, I doubt there is any difference or any significant difference in the results. I Want To Hold Your Hand lyrics is an example of finding lyrics for words to a song. Name of book followed by the word review or reviews to find reviews of a book, the same for a restaurant, etc. Gene -----Original Message----- From: heather albright Sent: Thursday, January 28, 2021 11:48 PM To: TechTalk@groups.io Subject: [TechTalk] inspired by red it stocks Hay, after all the stuff with game stop over the past week, I was thinking about freedom scientific and NVDA access. So I saw freedom was on the stock, it would not give me it’s stock price. So wonder if someone can tell me how check on this? I asked both google and alexa and they were acting stupid about the whole thing. I would ask google.com, but not sure how to start searching!, It made me start to think about investing in our blindness technology perhaps it will generate more income and that can create better products that we all can use. Like a better braille display, screen reader, better note taker. I agree with the red it theme, take charge of your own and not let wall street and companies decide if the stock is worth something or not, we should have a say not a person who does not use these products. Just a thought for the tec group might have someideas or not! Cheers Heather Sent from Mail for Windows 10
