filter these messages: control plus shift plus k message in thunderbird

Troy Burnham

Hi all,

When tabbing into my thunderbird folders, between the folder list and the folder itself there's an area that says filter these messages: control plus shift plus k. How do I keep that from showing? I've done it before and I think it's in the menus somewhere but I can't find it.

Thanks.

Gene,

I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling jarte.

In this case I probably had no choice but having windows reinstalled because I couldn't even boot into windows. The geek squad told me that it was a windows software problem.

Re: Issue With Notepad Plus Plus and file Extensions

Ron Canazzi

Hi Group,

The plot thickens.  I notice that on the older system, I have the latest version, but it is a 32 bit installation. On the newer system, I chose the 64 bit version. Both systems are Windows ten latest updates and 64 bit systems.  In the 32 bit version, I see the box referenced on this or another list concerning a check box that has a reference to use new style file formats without extensions and that box on the 32 bit format is unchecked. There is no such checkbox on the 64 bit version: go figure, must research more.

On 3/2/2021 4:32 PM, Ron Canazzi wrote:
Hi Gene,

Of course I have done this, but it is an extra step that I did not have to use on my older system.  What is odd about this whole thing is that whem I look at the save as and file extension dialogue, the only option is all files *.*.  I have in fact chosen the notepad associated file under the file associations tab of the preferences dialogue in Notepad Plus Plus and in fact if the extension already exists on a file, Notepad Plus Plus will open it.  But for some reason, the Windows registry is somehow not allowing Notepad Plus Plus to save the text file as a .txt file. I may write to the developer and ask about this since the google results I have seen don't seem to work.

On 3/2/2021 10:35 AM, Gene wrote:
I don't know what the reason for the behavior is, but when you save a file, type .txt at the end of the filename.  In case people have their punctuation set to none, that's dot txt.

When I export bookmarks from Firefox, I have to type the extension at the end as well.  If the file is in the txt format, that will work properly.

Hi Group,

I know some of you on some of my technical lists use Notepad Plus Plus with Windows Ten. I recently installed it on a newer Windows Ten system and for some reason, when I write and save a simple text file, the extension TXT does not appear as the extension in Windows Explorer. I do have file extension for known file types turned on, so it's not a Windows issue. There must be a setting I am missing that I must enable within Notepad Plus Plus to get the TXT file extension to appear in Windows Explorer file listings.  I can  in fact, open TXT files with Notepad Plus Plus by double clicking/pressing enter on the file that already exists with a TXT extension.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Jarte

Dave

Hello Troy,

I use Jarte all the time.  I do own MS Word 2019 but I hate it, and use
Jarte instead.

I am not going to be much in the way of Help for you though.  I still
have some of the same issues with Jaws as you do.

I have Jarte and Jaws installed on two machines and Jaws and Jarte work
fine on one, but not on the other.

I did call JAWS for Tech Help but they told me they couldn't help me as
Jarte is not a program they recognize as working with JAWS.

Thought this was a bit lame, but what could I say?

So, I started using NVDA with Jarte and it works very well together.

I started having problems with JAWS reading EXCEL Work Sheets correctly,
and I switched over to using NVDA, which works fine.

I now use JAWS once in a while, but mostly use NVDA for almost
everything including the Internet.

Jarte does have a Screen Reader mode, and at the start of Jarte, mine
will say, Screen Reader Mode.

Does yours say this?  And if so, Jaws still will not read anything?

Try NVDA with Jarte, and if NVDA reads well, then at least you know the
problem is in JAWS and not Jarte.

I've attempted to do just about everything to get Jaws to read Jarte
screens, so far no success.

Other than erasing Jaws and reinstalling, am not sure what to do at this
point.  So I use NVDA till I find a solution.

Re: Jarte

Here's how to enable and disable screen reader mode with Jart. URL is first then the steps.:

https://www.jarte.com/help_new/screen_reader_mode.html

Jarte will only enter screen reader mode if a recognized screen reader is running. Jarte's title bar will display the phrase "screen reader mode" when
Jarte is running in screen reader mode.

If Jarte does not recognize your screen reader program then you can force Jarte to switch to screen reader mode by copying the phrase "enable screen reader
mode" to the Windows clipboard before starting Jarte. This only needs to be done one time.

Note to JAWS users: Jarte is currently unable to recognize the presence of the JAWS screen reader. If you are using JAWS then you will need to use the
method described in the preceeding paragraph to force Jarte into screen reader mode.

If Jarte is running in screen reader mode, but it should not be, then you can turn off screen reader mode by copying the phrase "disable screen reader
mode" to the Windows clipboard and then restarting Jarte. This only needs to be done one time.

Hi.  I hope I am right, but if you press alt+l for languages, press t which will appear as a subMenu, then choose text, i think then that the txt extension will show up.  Did this a long time ago, so i hope I am pointing you to the right direction.  Cheers!

Hi folks. Good news. I got my sort view fixed. I decided
to compare the view on this computer with the view on one of
my other computers and found the problem. Walter.

View settings will begin with Alt+V. Now, exactly what you
do to get back your exact settings, I could not tell you. It
could be Alt+V+P+N or for sortint Alt+V+V+S. I just don't
know, but have given you a few ideas you can play around
with and maybe make discoveries.

Subject: [TechTalk] Outlook 2010 help needed please

Hi to all. A week or so back I posted explaining the need
to move away from Office 2007 and the email client Outlook
2007. I eventually opted to go with Office 2019 but
unfortunately my computer guy forgot that office 2019 will
only function on Win10 of which two of my computers are
Win10 but the other 2 are Win7. Therefore he installed
Office 2010 on those two Win7 machines.

My problem now is for some reason the view has changed.
This morning the view showed the sender, then the subject
line and then the time of arrival then the size. However
when I returned to my emails this afternoon it only shows
the sender's name i.e. from Anne, from Bill, from susan etc.
As outlook 2010 and 2019 are complete ribbon driven I have
experimented but no matter what I try I can't return the
view to what I am used to. The terminology appears to
differ from Office 2007 so I'm not really sure which
settings I should choose If somebody can inform me of what
options I should use to return the view back to what I'm
used to I will be appreciative. With thanks. Walter.
