Subject: [TechTalk] A Cople of Announcements (Passover, Podcast)

  Hello everyone,

First, I'd like to wish anyone who celebrates a very happy Passover. חג שמח!

I also want to make an announcement regarding an upcoming podcast. Some will see this as self-promotion. I see it as letting the community know of content which may be valuable to the community. Nonetheless, if you don't wish to know about this announcement, please stop reading.

I am a host of the BlindTechGuys podcast. We will be starting a series on web app accessibility. Examples are the Outlook web interface, Gmail's web interface, Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, Microsoft Office 365 on the web, Facebook, Twitter, and others. I've seen comments that Gmail is not accessible, questions on how to make best use of Facebook without using the mobile interface, and so on. I've also seen comments where blind people say that email threading is painful, not accessible, and they feel forced to use Outlook because Outlook is the only accessible/productive solution for reading mail. This series will take place over the next few weeks, and will address these concerns, and will provide information, and demonstrations, of such web apps using NVDA and, to a lesser extent, JAWS. We go live on Youtube, Periscope, and Facebook, in our Facebook group. The link to watch us live tonight is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7B0SR1okLLs and you can also catch the podcast in your favorite pod catcher once it is released in the next day or two, should you choose to catch the edited version, or wish to not watch on Youtube. If you do come on YouTube, leave us a chat in the chat box, and we'll acknowledge you live, particularly if you have questions as we go along. If you do have vision, please note that the Youtube stream is about the audio, not the video, and you won't see much visuals.

The BlindTechGuys podcast is aimed at discussing Android, iOS, and anything else tech-related which may be interesting to the blindness community. We go live on Sundays at 7:00 PM U.S. Pacific DST, however you can listen to episode at blindtechguys.com, where you can also subscribe. You can also listen to the podcast using your favorite podcatcher, and using your smart speaker of choice. Check out www.blindtechguys.com to find links for our various episodes, email list, Facebook and Twitter links, as well as our communities on Telegram and WhatsApp.

There was a version that was called OE runasXp where you paid $20 for three
keys, but this is no longer available, unless you have the key This is what
I am using, it works great under windows 10. . OE Classic cost $25 but it
has some accessibility issues.

No, for a time, someone was giving away the program, then asking for a
mandatory donation, to get the modified version. I have no idea if you can
find someone to provide the version that was free. it is not the most
recently released version, and has bugs in it that the more recent versions
don't. Unless you have specific needs that can't be met by another program,
you might have fewer problems using something like Thunderbird or Windows
Live Mail, which, it is my understanding, still works in Windows 10, though
you will have to find someone to provide it.

I think the version of Outlook Express that works with Windows 10 is called
OE Classic, but it is not free, and although users have reported that it has
so far not been affected by feature updates, there is no guarantee that this
will continue to be the case with future updates, and it could stop working
at any time, which is why relying on it as your email client of choice is
not a good idea.

For Windows 10, the equivalent would be Mail which is built into Windows.

Update On Right Windows Key With New Keyboard And Request

Ron Canazzi

Hi Group,

Well after trying a multiplicity of approaches, I finally called the Victsing Tech Support people.  They had me try a number of things and then determined that the keyboards (yes both of them) were defective.  I am sending them back for a full refund.

Also, I obtained the information to buy these keyboards from Amazon disability phone. If they hadn't been defective, they still lacked one feature I would like to have.  On my old, beat up, keyboard, there were four buttons at the top of the board that controlled volume aand some other features.  Can anyone recommend a standard USB QWERTY  type keyboard, with all the keys in the standard position (windows key, controls, alts, function keys, ETC.) that also has this volume control feature with four buttons--either at the top or somewhere else convenient?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Re: what would be the cost of replacing a hard drive in a windows ten comiput4er?

I have no objection to you giving that information nor if the person with the original question runs a diagnostic. I was commenting on the message immediately below mine, which wasn't about that. I was agreeing that it isn't at all clear that the hard drive is the problem, though doing a diagnosis yourself to try to save money and not taking the machine in somewhere is something I have no objection to..

you are right.
but as the question was about hard drive replacement, i thought i

the problem may be damaged windows, or incompatible hardware which i

any way, if you want to force the update, and this thread has gone on

the update assistant from microsoft. and it will pull the latest
update available at microsoft provided that the system is compatible.

Hello Group,

I recently bought two standard qwerty keyboards with USB connections. The right windows key does not work. I am running 64 bit Windows 10 with all stable updates. What could be causing this and how may it be remedied?

Thanks in advance for anyhelp.

Hi Mike,

I downloaded this archive and in all the listings when unzipped, I cannot see the Sharpkeys.exe or Sharpkeys.msi file to run.  Do you have a copy of this file? I know on the page you referenced they said something about the project has been shifted to Bithub, but when I went there, again, I did not see any installer files.

Use a program like Sharp Keys.  Below are steps on doing what you want to do using the applications key as an example.

1. To use this utility you must press enter on the file:
"E:\Downloads\sharpkeys3\SharpKeys.exe." There is no installer and no entry
placed on All Programs menu or Desktop.

2. If it pops up, hit Alt + letter R when the "Open File Security Warning"
pops up. SharpKeys will then present it's user interface.

3. Tab to the Add button" and press enter.

4. You will be placed in a list box containing some 235 items representing
your keyboard's individual keys. Down arrow through this list until you
select the key you want to remap. Since I want to remap my Windows
applications key I will down arrow and select the following key: Special:
Application (E0_5D).

5. Tab about 3 times or until you reach the second list box. you can now
down arrow to select what you would like the new key to be. Since I want to
change the default Windows applications key to a second Windows key to the
right of the spacebar, I will select the following key: Special: Right
Windows (E0_5C)

6. Tab to Ok and hit enter.

7. Tab to "Write to Registry" and press enter.

8. You will receive a prompt informing you that you will need to either reboot or log off for the changes to take effect.

9. I rebooted and now I have a second windows key to the right of the spacebar.

I think the version of Outlook Express that works with Windows 10 is called OE Classic, but it is not free, and although users have reported that it has so far not been affected by feature updates, there is no guarantee that this will continue to be the case with future updates, and it could stop working at any time, which is why relying on it as your email client of choice is not a good idea.
