Hi there, Mr Rawls! I had a problem installing Windows 10, and I found
that I had requested a file to be put on my computer that would not
let a higher version than 7 be installed. Windows gave me instructions
as what to do, so I followed them and then got Windows 10 installed. I
can't remember what the instructions were now, but if you get the
Windows10UpgraderApp.exe, this might help.

Re: Alarm sound of Echo Dot?

Vicky Vaughan

Hi Tariq, Thank you for answering my question.

Unfortunately, she responds wit, “Alarm for what time?”  She doesn’t understand that I am not trying to set or change the time, but to get back the original alarm sound which was an alternating up and down tones.

For some unknown reason yesterday morning she switched to playing soft music, which is not effective in waking me up.

Between having hearing loss and sometimes being deep asleep at the time for the alarm, I need the former loud tones.

Thanks again for your suggestion.

Sincerely, Vicky V

I think it’s a little more expensive than the focus 40 braille display. But I could be wrong. It’s definitely more expensive than the line of orbit braille displays which are the lower cost braille displays that have been coming out recently.

Re: Outlook Express & Windows 10

Hi folks. Don't forget, windows 10 has an email app built in that works pretty well. I rarely use it myself as I prefer outlook, but I have many clients who are using it. If basic email management is all you want, it works fine. If you want to get fancy, set message rules and such, it's not the program for you.

There was a version that was called OE runasXp where you paid $20 for three keys, but this is no longer available, unless you have the key This is what I am using, it works great under windows 10. . OE Classic cost $25 but it has some accessibility issues.

No, for a time, someone was giving away the program, then asking for a mandatory donation, to get the modified version. I have no idea if you can find someone to provide the version that was free. it is not the most recently released version, and has bugs in it that the more recent versions don't. Unless you have specific needs that can't be met by another program, you might have fewer problems using something like Thunderbird or Windows Live Mail, which, it is my understanding, still works in Windows 10, though you will have to find someone to provide it.

I think the version of Outlook Express that works with Windows 10 is called
OE Classic, but it is not free, and although users have reported that it has
so far not been affected by feature updates, there is no guarantee that this
will continue to be the case with future updates, and it could stop working
at any time, which is why relying on it as your email client of choice is
not a good idea.

Outlook Express was in Windows XP

Became Windows mail in Windows Vista

Became Windows Live mail in Windows 7 and joined the Windows Essentials
suite.

For Windows 10, the equivalent would be Mail which is built into Windows.

If you don't want to use that, your alternatives are Outlook if you have
Office, or Thunderbird, or a web mail interface.

Kind regards

Hi Janet,

Check your typing echo setting in Brave, it's possible you changed the setting accidentally.  Press, Insert + 2, on the number row to toggle through the options.  The typing echo options are, character, words, both characters and words and none.

Hold down the, Insert key, and tap the, 2 key, stopping on the option you want.

In Jaws 2021 the, Insert + spacebar, then pressing, S, toggles speech between, Speech on demand, and Full speech.  You'll have to experiment with this to get the hang of the way the 2 settings work.

Stay safe and take care.  Mike.

HI Gene,
Ok, I tried both methods, and I get the exact same results.  Didn't JAWS always read text as default? I will be very disappointed if there is no solution, as I love using Brave as my browser, but I just can't stand hearing JAWS always reading every key I press though.  I wonder why would I now start having this problem with JAWS and the edit field though.

One method is to turn off speech, type, then turn it on again.  To turn off
speech, the command is JAWS key space, followed by the letter s.  The same
command again turns speech on again.

It sounds to me as though there is no setting that will solve the problem.
My guess is that what is happening is that when you type, the letter is
appearing as a selected or highlighted letter.  JAWS is announcing it as it
appears because JAWS reads selected text by default.

As I consider the problem, there may be another way to solve the problem.
JAWS key s switches between three options.  The default is highlighted and
it is the one you would usually use.  All is another option and none is
another.  Use the command to move to none and see what happens when you
type.  them move to highlighted after you finish.
