using power tools around the yard grass and snow?

Hi,

 

I rent a house with a pretty sizeable yard. Maybe a 1/3-acre yard plus a small side yard. My son is sighted and we just got a Ryobi 40-volt lawn mower self-propelled withg variable speed lawn mower. Anyway he cuts the grass but I want to help out. So I found this at home depot: and I plan on buying it, along with the snow-thrower attachment. The link is below but my question is can this string trimmer and the snow thrower attachment I plan to buy with it, be used safely by someone who is totally blind? I may not be able to mow the lawn myself because if I understand correctly the self-propelled mower just goes forward and I would lose track of where I am and what I already cut. But I think I could use this because I would either be using the fence, sidewalk, street, or snow-banks as borders to help guide me as I cut weeds, long grass, or throw snow from the driveway or sidewalk and it also uses the same 40 volt batteries as the mower we got. And for those curious folks, the mower sounds like a computer hard drive starting up and when it is running it sounds like a small turbo prop airplane. So here is the link. Suggestions and ideas about these products are welcome oh and I do not need the other equipment other attachments like the leaf blower or poll saw attachment, not enough leaves in my yard to blow anyway and the lawn mower can mulch them with the mulcher attachment that my sighted son can use. Link is: I myself am more interested in using the string trimmer with attachments because it’s a stick, like a cane, sort of, I’ll have borders or guides made with the fence, sidewalk etcetera and I think I could manage that just remembering to keep it away from my body and or feet to avoid injury.

You don't have to select the address in the address bbar. It is already
selected. Just copy. This is generally true in Windows browsers, at least
it is in Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome based browsers.

The reason being that small in size because its just the setup file or downloader. 

It will download the rest  of the package as you open those program. this is how office365 works too. as you use your computer or connected to the internet, it will drag it down from Microsoft.

the DVD or CD of office is that huge for a few reason.

1. multiple languages support.

2. font

3. clip art

4. different versions

 like standard, professional and professional plus  etc. you can even just install one program without the rest. office tools and so on.

 

if you take away the above items, a small setup is all they need to get the installer going for you since the rest of the package, dll, data will come later.

It's even harder to get a laptop which comes with an optical drive. 

most are getting, thinner. Thinner means, optical drive need to go.

Especially ultra book series.

Netflix, disney plus, HBO are streaming  new shows online nowadays.

so its even harder to get a DVD movie online, so a lot of people, just don't need them.

Beside, you need to wait for the movie company to  make the DVD as compare   streaming service, when its coming out today, its just out. all you need to do is, to stream.

DVD, you need to wait for shipment.

no doubt, you still can get it on amazon  and a lot online places for the latest movies but movie company are just making, lesser du to demand

Even Microsoft windows, office all can be downloaded onto a thumb drive and install from there.

It should work. 

I am mainly using distribution from Ubuntu and centos.

Gui is good but I like to type command, I can accomplish more but it might not be for everyone. Isn't it there's a VI linux distribution? Is it still being updated?

I mostly ssh over using putty, and do the things I want to do. But  for the NAS linux, once you setup, you go in by the web UI. and setup those drives.

 

For NAs I mentioned earlier, try

freenas and now known as truenas.

You are running a machine series that I used to own. Its only 100mbps ethernet port lol...

 

I got a lower end machine, without those serial ports, still got a DVD burner, 8gb of ram (I max it out already), I upgraded 256gb to 640gb harddrive.

Its running windows 7 though.

Works fine, I can surf net on it which its the only thing I does with it.

Even if I would get the latest OS, I will not run windows 10 on it. too much work to get the driver to get going. I done once, last year on one of the computer in the office. 

in the end, i load up linux on it and put whatever gui for the user to use it as the day to day processing unit. still alive as we speak.

 

Too much limitation to get an old machine to work.

 

If you don't want, run a NAS on it. linux base, and you can put multiple drives on them external or internal and you can put on the network for file sharing. i done for a customer previously.

if it die, thats all it can do. surfing net will be a pain. you can listen to music on it, watch youtube... simple stuff. opening document, edit a few page but if you want to to do more, then it will be too slow.

Hi, my first laptop a satellite a 300 toshiba lasted for 6 years, then my mom had it for another 4 years, running windows xp or vista. I think. And second machine, lasted almost 5 years, and was windows 7 pro 64 bit with a dvd drive. Gave it to a friend, who is a sighted programmer, and then he put in a new ssd for his mom,  windows 10. Now had to get a new Samsung external ssd drive 500 gb, as my 1 tb Toshiba external  drive, was about to die. Able to copy all files from that. And so got a new assus vivo book with a ssd. First time using that and yes, takes about 30 secs to power up and hear the windows chime and the login screen with jaws. Do have 8 gb ram, do have a spare 8 gb two spare 4 gb slots. Could have used 16 gb, when doing my network course and ran out of memory for running multiple virtual machines. And like to get a new laptop every 6 to 7 years or 5 years. So had this assus a couple of years. Thanks.

Ps: I 3 7 dual quad or quad core, up to 8cores. 2.3 ghz processor, 8 gb ram, 500 gb ssd. One usb 3, two usb 2 ports. 15.inch passive colour I think, or maybe active colour. Not sure. Standard keyboard, built in web cam, mike. Surround sound and using the real tech surround sound app. Two speakers. No card reader.

A good machine.

Excellent sound. And do have windows 10 pro 64 bit, it came with windows 10 home 64 bit 1809. So upgraded it a few times.

Hi Troy. You want the first app showing, the one that says, introducing S2.

Once you download the app you can go in and create a sonos account. I haven't set up a new device in quite some time as my rooms are all full of sonos gear and I have nowhere else to use one right now lol. The process of setting up a new device should still be completely accessible and fairly straight forward. Give it a go. If you need some assistance give a shout.

It should be easier than last time.
Just put on the VM through VM player.

back then, I need to learn to telnet to it with a crossover cable and start the installation. 
life is much easier even with   opensuse.
I will try the the one I mentioned in my previous email. there's GUI install of command only.

I don't know how well is the talking version of linux. There used to have  a screen reader for linux which its like 20 years ago. during the days of dectalk express or hardware  synthesizer. i ca't remember the name but thats the time when i am learning on redhat.

I am mainly using distribution from Ubuntu and centos.

Gui is good but I like to type command, I can accomplish more but it might not be for everyone. Isn't it there's a VI linux distribution? Is it still being updated?

I mostly ssh over using putty, and do the things I want to do. But  for the NAS linux, once you setup, you go in by the web UI. and setup those drives.

 

For NAs I mentioned earlier, try

freenas and now known as truenas.

You are running a machine series that I used to own. Its only 100mbps ethernet port lol...

 

I got a lower end machine, without those serial ports, still got a DVD burner, 8gb of ram (I max it out already), I upgraded 256gb to 640gb harddrive.

Its running windows 7 though.

Works fine, I can surf net on it which its the only thing I does with it.

Even if I would get the latest OS, I will not run windows 10 on it. too much work to get the driver to get going. I done once, last year on one of the computer in the office. 

in the end, i load up linux on it and put whatever gui for the user to use it as the day to day processing unit. still alive as we speak.

 

Too much limitation to get an old machine to work.

 

If you don't want, run a NAS on it. linux base, and you can put multiple drives on them external or internal and you can put on the network for file sharing. i done for a customer previously.

if it die, thats all it can do. surfing net will be a pain. you can listen to music on it, watch youtube... simple stuff. opening document, edit a few page but if you want to to do more, then it will be too slow.

Hi, my first laptop a satellite a 300 toshiba lasted for 6 years, then my mom had it for another 4 years, running windows xp or vista. I think. And second machine, lasted almost 5 years, and was windows 7 pro 64 bit with a dvd drive. Gave it to a friend, who is a sighted programmer, and then he put in a new ssd for his mom,  windows 10. Now had to get a new Samsung external ssd drive 500 gb, as my 1 tb Toshiba external  drive, was about to die. Able to copy all files from that. And so got a new assus vivo book with a ssd. First time using that and yes, takes about 30 secs to power up and hear the windows chime and the login screen with jaws. Do have 8 gb ram, do have a spare 8 gb two spare 4 gb slots. Could have used 16 gb, when doing my network course and ran out of memory for running multiple virtual machines. And like to get a new laptop every 6 to 7 years or 5 years. So had this assus a couple of years. Thanks.

Ps: I 3 7 dual quad or quad core, up to 8cores. 2.3 ghz processor, 8 gb ram, 500 gb ssd. One usb 3, two usb 2 ports. 15.inch passive colour I think, or maybe active colour. Not sure. Standard keyboard, built in web cam, mike. Surround sound and using the real tech surround sound app. Two speakers. No card reader.

A good machine.

Excellent sound. And do have windows 10 pro 64 bit, it came with windows 10 home 64 bit 1809. So upgraded it a few times.

The reason being that small in size because its just the setup file or downloader. 
It will download the rest  of the package as you open those program. this is how office365 works too. as you use your computer or connected to the internet, it will drag it down from Microsoft.
the DVD or CD of office is that huge for a few reason.
1. multiple languages support.
2. font
3. clip art
4. different versions
 like standard, professional and professional plus  etc. you can even just install one program without the rest. office tools and so on.

if you take away the above items, a small setup is all they need to get the installer going for you since the rest of the package, dll, data will come later.

It's even harder to get a laptop which comes with an optical drive. 

most are getting, thinner. Thinner means, optical drive need to go.

Especially ultra book series.

Netflix, disney plus, HBO are streaming  new shows online nowadays.

so its even harder to get a DVD movie online, so a lot of people, just don't need them.

Beside, you need to wait for the movie company to  make the DVD as compare   streaming service, when its coming out today, its just out. all you need to do is, to stream.

DVD, you need to wait for shipment.

no doubt, you still can get it on amazon  and a lot online places for the latest movies but movie company are just making, lesser du to demand

Even Microsoft windows, office all can be downloaded onto a thumb drive and install from there.

That one you can only print or convert to pdf. The PDF creator can resize or base on quality when you print it.
If you want smaller pdf, you can do on the fly. 
Thats the different as she wants to put image onto pdf.
The windows 10 will drop some quality of the image.
