Re: looking for computer speakers with volume knob on speaker

Hello, I got these speakers, they sound great and they are USB powered and look like wooden bookshelf speakers. I have them on my fire stick now because they sounded so good and looked better on my wooden dresser woe. But they were on my desk and the wooden casing improved the sound and they did not vibrate off my desk. They have a nob on the left speaker and it can turn off the speakers and they have braided cables, not the cheap looking kind so, they ran across my desk perfectly. I did not want bluetooth and the other USB speakers sound crappy to my ears. So I got these and i use speaker stands to put them up higher and room sound is excellent.Agood price for nice sounding USB speakers.

Subject: [TechTalk] looking for computer speakers with volume knob on speaker

Hi all,

Can anybody recommend a set of computer speakers that has the volume knob on one of the speakers? I recently bought a set of speakers but they have an inline volume and I'd rather the volume be on one of the speakers to make it easier to reach.

I'd also like to get them from amazon because I have a gift card I need to use.

Thanks.

Troy

Re: Downloads Fail With Any Browser

John,

Actually when I paste the URl into the Run dialogue, a browser or just press enter on it the file starts to download, but it fails anywhere between 10 & 65%.  I've tried with Edge, Chrome and Waterfox on my Windows 7 computer and with Chrome and Edge on the Win-10 machine.

That’s odd that it can’t find the host…

That could explain it but why would  it not find the host on a 7 box but on a 10 box work fine?

Hi Mike.  If you know the direct address of the site's download page, please do the following and email me the results.

go to your command prompt ant type:

ping followed by the download page's address.  Once you hear any output from the screen reader, press Alt+space and arrow up or down to edit, then to select all.  Then get to edit again in the same way and look for copy.  Then go to notepad, paste the results and email the text to me.  I should be able to tell you what to do after reading the result of your ping.  HTH and Cheers!

Hi Mike.  I think your windows 7 pc is not able to recieve network packets in a stable manner.  This may be caused either by your ethernet card or your router.  If you are on a router, I would suggest you reset your router, restart your machine and see if it helps.  another scenario would be that your ethernet card needs either a drriver reinstall or an update.  Use your windows 10 pc to go to your window 7 ethernet card's website to check for the latest driver and update appropriately.  Install the updated driver, reset your router and restart your pc to see if it solves your problem, if not, you can get back to me and i will arrange a remote session with you if you like and help you troubleshoot your pc.  Cheers!

Hi Ron,

I'm using the onboard Realtek ethernet connection and no I haven't done a disk check for errors since the downloading issue is the only problem this computer is having, that I can tell anyways.

I don't know when this problem started since this computer is at our 2nd home and we haven't been coming here as often because of the pandemic.  I do know it happened within the last 3 months, but when or why, I sure don't have a clue.

Two things come to mind.  You said you swapped out the cables: what about the cards?  Are you using standard ethernet cards?

also, I am wondering if you have done a de fragment or error check on the problem computer?

I'm not saying this to comment on whether you should make your own list, but it should be noted that the Quick Command Reference in NVDA help doesn't list windows or program commands. All commands are NVDA commands.

Subject: Re: [TechTalk] NVDA keyboard list

Yes, guess I should create one for her. That is why I was not wanting to point her to a site as they mix their key command list and do not say they are a windows command an an NVDA command, windows does not get the credit. So maybe they should say windows keyboard commands with NVDA instead of NVDA commands. Thak you all for your help! Cheers Heather

I really object to what I've seen of this list. it mixes Windows commands

with screen-reader commands and doesn't indicate or explain the difference.

For example, say next carachter is given as right arrow or numpad 3. These

are completely different commands. Right arrow is a windows movement

command when working with an application cursor. Numpad 3 is an NVDA

command. it moves within the object or in review mode and doesn't move you

in the document. Right arrow moves you in the document and announces where

you have moved. This is not the way NVDA commands should be presented.

NVDA commands are not Windows or program commands and they should be given

as completely separate commands and program commands should not be included

in such lists.

Hello, does anyone know where I can find a file for NVDA commands. I am

working with a person and they find the guide overwhelming that comes in the

NVDA user guide. I wish they would just have all the commands separated. I

know why they did the guide like they did by listing all the commands touch,

laptop and desktop. But, this person just wants the commands for a desktop

and not all the other info. They are very overwhelmed with to much info and

they do not know how to skip the info they do not need.

I do not want them to be discouraged and I want them to use their computer.

If anyone knows where I can find an NVDA command file list, please let me

know. Thank you, Heather

Thanks Vicky, I ended up using an amazon gift card and buying a nice set of Bose speakers.

Thanks.

This looks interesting and useful, but it doesn't look like it's screen-reader user friendly... I use Outlook, not the Windows calendar app.

Request you to have a look at the below link. It allows you to have your google calendar with the windows10 calendar app.

I have done it & you should also give it a shot.
