I think the type cover works very well on a solid surface, and this
coming from a picky typer. I do see what Heather means about trying to
use the type cover on your lap though. Brydge sells directly and also
via Amazon. They make keyboards for both Surface tablets as well as
iPads.--Joe

Brydge makes keyboards for the Surface tablets, both the Surface Go
and the Surface Pro. Microsoft's own keyboard is not great for typing
on your lap, but Brydge makes a sturdy case that locks onto the bottom
of the tablet and effectively turns the tablet into a laptop. I'll be
writing a review of the case on my blog shortly. Thanks for reminding
me to make that a higher priority on my personal list.

Ultimately MS could kill Nuance, which it will probably do in the end. that's usually how acquisitions work.

I’ll look at the petition but why do you consider it important that Eloquence isn’t maintained?  It does what users want it to do and it does it very well.  And you can purchase Eloquence for use with NVDA and with other programs.

Hi,

As some of you may know, Microsoft acquired Nuance. I started this

petition as ETI-Eloquence isn't maintained and is used by a lot of the

blind community. If you would like to sign It, the link is

I'm sure that when the acquisition process is over, it's going to be MS that has the rights to Eloquence, not Nuance, as it will most likely be dissolved.

What interest do they have by keeping such rights, especially if the popular demand is to have it be open sourced? They could either do that, or they could maintain it, and make it a part of Windows.

Nuance may not be making much money from Eloquence, but I doubt they will make it either free or open source.  If they haven’t done so by now, given all the interest of the blind community, why would they care about a petition?

I experienced this recently. I was editing a document and it was skipping pages. I remember when editing, one should put the document in draft mode. So, I hit F6 twice and hear status bar, tab until I hear draft, press spacebar to check it, F6 twice more and hear document pane to get back into the document, then I hit escape. I am using Outlook 2010.

Try going to the View ribbon and choosing 1 page to be displayed.
The key sequence is Alt+W, followed by number row 1.
In addition to others suggestions make sure that “Reading Pane” is not checked under the “View” setting on your Word ribbon.

Re: importing addressbook

Mike B.

Howdy,

Here's a note I saved, so here's how to export the Outlook Express address book as a CSV file.

From: Gene
To export the Outlook Express address book as a comma separated values
text file do the following:
Each step starts on a new line.
Open the address book with the command control shift b.
Open the file menu and down arrow to export.
Press enter.
You are in a list of format choices.
Down arrow to other address book and press enter.
A dialog will open and you are placed in a list.
Down arrow to text file comma separated values.
Press enter.
A new dialog opens and you are in an edit field. The edit field is
announced as save exported file as.  To keep things simple, type the
following:
c:\addressbook.csv
and press enter.
Look at the syntax character by character if you have punctuation off in
your screen-reader.
Another dialog comes up with a lot of choices for fields that will be
included or not included.  You may have to make changes but you probably
won't.  You may look at this part of the dialog if you wish.  Or you can
just press enter again to export the addressbook.

After you press enter, there will be a short pause, after which you will
receive a message that the export is complete.  You are on an ok button.
Activate it, then press escape a few times to close the dialogs.  The
addressbook is still opened and you will probably want to close it.

If you have questions about the part of the procedure where you can make
changes in the dialog to cause items to be exported or not exported, let
us know.
The file will now be on your c drive, directly on the drive, not in any
folder.  Move it wherever you wish.

Gene

Stay safe and take care.  Mike.

You need to export the addressbook as a CSV file, not in the default Outlook

Are all the surfaces like this? I thought it would have the similar set up like my i-pad which I could type on my lap and the screen on the i-pad holds well. I am wondering if the magnets on the surface are not as strong as the ones off my i-pad?

It just seemed that my surface was to top heavy and it always wanted to flop over. So I set it back.

So someone told me to look in to a traditional laptop set up

But before I do this, is there a surface that has a better setup?

I liked the lightweight aspects of the surface along with the quickness of the surface.
