Re: another jarte question

That won’t solve the problem.  the original message said that JARTE is in screen-reader mode, indicating that that was already done.  Furthermore, screen[-reader mode isn’t necessary to see text.  It is necessary to work with the interface such as menus but you can move around and read text in the edit area regardless.  Another message from another list member said that JARTE worked with JAWS until an update to JAWS.  I believe it was the release of version 2020.  The solution appears to lie with the JAWS developers and those who want to use the program with JAWS should let their voices be heard so the problem has a better chance of being addressed and addressed soon.  NVDA works with the program if people want to use that screen-reader with it.  Also, the program is aware of NVDA and automatically goes into screen-reader mode when NVDA is running and you run JARTE.

If I repeat, I apologize. However, no mention was made of the need to place the phrase;

enable screen reader mode

On your clipboard before starting jarte.

Create the phrase in Notepad, press control A, press control C,close Notepad, and open jarte. This appears to put jarte into screen reader mode, which it announces as it opens.

There are rumours that this has been repaired, but I find I need to refresh the setting occasionally using the instructions above.

Here, using JAWS 2018 or NVDA jarte works just fine.

Good luck

This is speculation but since you can read text using the JAWS cursor, that suggests to me that JAWS isn’t seeing the cursor for some reason.  Others who use JARTE may be able to comment on that further.  For the moment, the best thing to do might be to wait for other comments.  Perhaps there is a setting you can change in the program that will solve the problem.

I suspect my guess is right, that it doesn’t see the cursor.  Obviously, this can and should be fixed.  I hope enough people complain so that developers take the problem seriously.

At least there is a way around the problem, have more than one version of JAWS on the machine or use NVDA or maybe Narrator.

Yep, I still use Jarte' but I am forced to use NVDA to use it.

I did contact JAWS Tech Support and they told me that JAWS wasn't made
to read Jarte'.

Well, it was reading fine in JAWS for years until a recent update in JAWS.

I hope there is a solution for the problem as I find Jarte to work well

Troy, I am not able to provide the source; however, I distinctly remember seeing a message on one of these lists perhaps three months or so ago stating that although NVDA and Narrator recognized screen reader mode,  Jaws did not. No specific version of Jaws was mentioned.

Re: another jarte question

Gene

Some sort of inaccessible code is used in the program.  NVDA says unknown when I try to see items such as menus using screen review.  When I use alt, the only menu available is the system menu.  I can’t move to any other menus, even if doing so might cause NVDA to say unknown when screen-reader mode is off.  When screen-reader mode is on, menus appear and are accessed in the usual way.  Evidently, when using keyboard access by a sighted person, that ;person would be unable to use menus from the keyboard as well.

the documentation also says that some visual aspects of the program are not available in screen-reader mode and I believe it says something about some items being presented in a more logical manner for use with a screen-reader.

It would be interesting to see how the program may appear differently in terms of the interface seen by a sighted person when used not in screen-reader mode.

Hi all,

Jarte is in screen reader mode, but when I open a file with it I have to
use the jaws cursor to read because it won't speak when using the pc
cursor no matter what I do. Has anybody else experienced this? Btw I'm
using jaws 2020.

Thanks.

Troy

If you’re using edge, hitting Ctrl+J will get you to the downloads area. The new one is more like a webpage.

Try downloading JARTE by using shift enter on the link.  I never updated Internet Explorer and my version is too old to test with.  But in the Brave browser, I had to press shift enter to get the Download to begin.  I suspect a popup occurs for the download and that it is being blocked.  Shift enter allows popups to popup.

In case that doesn’t work, here is a direct link to initiate the download which will probably work.

This e-mail is on windows 7, and I see the link that you found in your e-mail on windows 10, but when I enter on that download, no download occurs.  The document is still there about the Jarte word processor.

Lately, I have been having a lot of issues trying to download something, whether it is an app, program, music--using windows 7 or windows 10with MS Edge, and I have tried IE on windows 10.  At the moment I would like to download Jarte on my windows 10 computer, as I do not have MS Word on that computer and I cannot read the e-mails that are on my portable hard drive because of that.  I can read them fine on the windows 7 computer, but at times that particular computer is not available.  Could someone please give me step by step instructions on how to acquire and download Jarte?  Thank you very much.
