Silent JAWS reading calculator

Nancy Shackelford

I did something, and the calculator keys are completely silent when
numlock is turned on. I don't know what I did so can't reverse it.
Also, Alt+D does not do anything. Can't find this in the JAWS Help
Topics. Advice, please!

Hi Group,
I have downloaded several of the documents for the Braillant Braille Display, but what I  really need is a list of hotkeys.  These documents do a lot to explain the functionality and efficiency, but I do not see any hotkeys.  for example, thee supposed to be a method of setting the device to factory defaults, but I can't see the keystroke in any of the referenced documentation.

Subject: [TechTalk] Humanware Brailliant BI 40 Inquiry

Hello Group,

I was recently able to obtain a Humanware Brailliant BI 40 Braille Display. I do not have a manual or any quick start guide. I searched on the Humanware website and I was able to find a BI 40X, but not a BI 40.

does anyone know where I can get a quick start guide or user manual for this device? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm unsure of where this lady is at but I just got the package today, Saturday the 8th, so it took 10 days if I remember when it was sent.
I was just curious all, as I heard 3 weeks at one point.
Interesting, earlier it was mentioned like free matter was sent at the level of junk mail if memory serves what the person said.

they may think the page is in conformance but it isn’t.  If you up arrow one time when you are on the Sock Hop collection text using NVDA and the Brave Browser, a Chrome-based browser, you get to a link that says unlabeled and it is announced as a link.  In other words, you hear unlabeled link.  Pressing enter brings up what you want to see.  Does JAWS not see this link?  If not, I don’t know why nor if there is any setting that will allow you to see it.  I’m doubtful but someone may know of or find a setting.

So I’m thinking about buying from:

Timelife.com/music

This is one of those websites that I can only make work with Internet Explorer, and maybe someone can tell me why’s this?

If I try to look at all of the different music  selections they have with Firefox or Edge using JAWS 2021, I can navigate to the headings  as heading level 2  gives all of the different things that can be ordered, but I can’t c see the track  listing.

With IE,  there’s some kinda graphics link that only IE sees.

When I had called them the guy said scroll down or something like that but  I don’t understand what he is saying.

In Edge and Firefox, I can get to the very first one, there’s a Lifetime of Romance music  CD.

If I hit learn more it’ll bring up that CD. But this is the  only one I can make work out of the entire page of music on Firefox or Edge.

On their website it says call us if you have problems navigating   our website. So that’s what I did. They say their website is compliant with W3G accessibility.

Here’s a perfect example of one that doesn’t work… for some reason.

With  IE, if I go to the heading labeled the  sock hop collection (which is a level 3 heading), just above the heading I see something that says

Link‑ Graphic‑ full/Sock-Hop-cover Graphic‑
Graphic‑

This is a link that I can hit space or enter on and it will  bring up the page with  songs  samples and a bit about the disk.

If I then hit

Link view tracks by disk,

I can see all of the tracks and samples.

However that  view cover graphic is something I can only find in IE and not Firefox or edge.

I’ve got jaws  set to this in IE,

Virtual Cursor OptionsGraphics Options
Graphics Show Tagged
Graphics recognize by Alt Attribute
Links Options
Virtual Cursor OptionsLinks Options
Graphical Links Show All

Now I do not have this set on a per application bases.

IN Edge its set like this…

General OptionsGraphics Labeled

Include Graphic Alignment Description  checked‑

If I type the word link in the search field in JAWS verbosity I don’t see anything about links when looking at the edge browser which is strange.

In Firefox  it’s  set the same way as edge.

My first thought was that different web engines make different things work at  times, but then it went to my mind that maybe I have  JAWS set in such a  way that it’ll skip over graphics? That’s why I checked each browsers jaws  verbosity settings.

So any idea why this site works to view what I’m after only in IE?

I tried that browser dead last after trying edge (my default), and Firefox browsers next.

Windows 7, JAWS 2021.

Thanks,

John

Yeah I see that with NVDA, on edge.

Every cover has weird links, all  of mine have labels but every one is a strange label.

Jaws won’t see it unless I use IE.

Hi all,

Advice would be greatly appreciated. Using the latest copy of Jaws and updated windows 10, I had the awful experience of being totally embarrassed while conducting some training this afternoon.
Whenever I enabled screen share in zoom, my computer stopped performing several actions. Momoving to menus in google docs no longer worked. Moving to the desktop became a no no and I eventually had no speech and could not restart.

Any ideas on what could be wrong?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Windows 10 Update Replaces 26-Year-Old Icons!

Hello All!
Yes, I'm reading again! I copied and pasted below some information some of you might be interested in reading.

Upcoming Windows 10 Update Replaces 26-Year-Old Icons
ANDREW HEINZMAN

The new icons Vs. the Windows 95 icons.
The new icons (left) and the old icons (right). Windows Latest figure end
One of the strangest parts of Windows 10 is its mismatched icons, an issue that's most obvious when you open the Device Manager or try to
customize
a File Explorer shortcut. But a new Windows 10 preview build reveals that Microsoft is finally updating icons leftover from the Windows 95 era, including
the floppy drive, hibernation mode, and memory icons.
Microsoft is working on a Windows 10 design overhaul to make the OS more modern, visually consistent, and touch-friendly. Code named "Sun Valley," the
redesign project includes all-new icons for folders and other common elements. Several of these changes are visible in the
Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 21343,
though they aren't available in standard versions of Windows just yet.

Microsoft's upcoming "Sun Valley" icons. Microsoft figure end
First reported by
Windows Latest,
a newly-released version of Windows 10 Insider Preview Build refreshes most of the Windows 95-era icons. These 26-year-old icons are part of shell32.dll,
a dynamic link library that has controlled some elements of Windows' GUI for over two decades.
While Microsoft has made an effort to keep commonly-used icons like the folder and recycling bin up to date, the company simply hasn't bothered replacing
its less-useful icons, like the floppy drive. Still, these old icons pop up in several areas of Windows 10, like the Device Manager, and are often utilized
by old apps. Giving them a facelift will make Windows 10 more consistent, even if the average person never encounters a hibernation mode icon.
Rumors suggest that the "Sun Valley" redesign will debut in October with the Windows 10 21H2 update. But Microsoft hasn't replaced all of the icons in
current Insider Preview builds-Windows Latest reports that the classic WinDirStat "tree" icon still stands strong ... for now.

Re: free matter for the blind

I believe that part of what determines the speed at which third class mail is delivered is that if there isn’t enough capacity to take it at the moment, it is put aside for later delivery in favor of higher classes of mail.  That would account, in large measure, for the variations in delivery being discussed.

I just recently received a free matter package shipped from Oregon to
Georgia received it the second day. I shipped package from Georgia to
Louisiana on Monday and they have not yet received it. I can't explain why
the first was received so fast.

My experience has been the package comes a couple days later than
normal. So if something should take three days, it will probably take five.

I was told it travels third class male, whitch is how junkmail goes, so I would presume it would not take too long since I get junkmale quite quickly.

When someone sends you something using free matter for the blind, how long
does it take to reach it's destination?
