I don’t know technically how it is done, but I believe the setting you are discussing causes replies to use another address but that has nothing to do with your problem, as far as I know.  Others can discuss that and tell you if I am wrong.  You can check yourself.  You can try that setting, start a message, shift tab to the from line, and see if the address shown is the same address you specify when working with that command.  If it is, that will solvew your problem but I’m not sure what will happen when you specifically want people to reply to mail coming from your other account.

I wouldn’t fool around with that option.
The way all e-mail programs I’ve used work, the problem you are having should not be a problem if you do the following:
If you have two different accounts, each account should have separate folders, an inbox, a sent mail folder, etc. all separate for that specific account.  If you are in one of the folders for that account, all outgoing mail you begin or reply to should automatically use the address of that account.

Evidently, you are starting mail while in the other account.  You can use the combo box to change which account the message is sent from but it shouldn’t be necessary.  I have two accounts, not in Thunderbird but in Windows Live Mail.  I would think the following applies to Thunderbird as well:
The account I am working in is the account used when I start a new message or reply to a message in that account.  If you have an aggregated folder, such as an inbox that shows all mail from all inboxes for all accounts, I don’t know what happens.  You can check and see if the correct account is automatically used when you reply to a message.  If you start a completely new message, I would expect the default account to be used.  My point is that your problem should almost completely disappear if you keep what I’m saying in mind.

When you send a completely new message, change the account used by working with the combo box in the from line if you aren’t working in the one you want when you start the message.  When replying, I would expect the account to be used that received the message.

I see it will not make my first account as a default account it said it was unable and it keeps using my other account instead. I am looking at account  settings for this account  and it says people will respond to this address. So thunder bird users, do I have to say the same e-mail address? I thought it was given that if you are sending from your e-mail address, the person would surely respond back to you using the same address; right?  I wish there was a free tutorial because NVDA wants you to pay for one when I tried to google it. I think that is why I used the mail app so much because someone wrote a written tutorial. I just want to be sure, if I put the same address on the account, that will fix my issue when I try to send messages to my groups. The funny thing is the other account is not set as a default account either. I am still trying to find out why it wants to send all mail out using that account as a response. I did notice my outlook account kept having conflict   issues with the server, so I have deleted it for now till I can figure out what the conflict issues are, it never did say and gave no code I could google for answers. There is always a default account in any e-mail program.  Messages will be sent by that account unless you either tell the program to use another account you have set up every time you want to send a message using that account, or unless you make that other account the default account.

I only use one account in Thunderbird and I’m not sure how to make another account the default.  Until you learn how, do the following:

When you start a new message or reply, shift tab until you get to the from line.  It is a combo box.  Use alt down arrow to open the combo box.  Then down or up arrow, whichever works, to move to the other account you have set up.

Tab to wherever you want to work and continue as usual.

There is one thing I’m not sure of in this description and you can experiment.  Just tabbing should be enough.  If it doesn’t change the account you are sending the message from, follow the procedure I gave but press enter after moving to the account you want in the combo box.

Hello to everyone on the list who are trying  to help me with this issue with Thunderbird I truly appreciate all the help. I just wanted to let everyone know what was happening and we fixed some of the issues.  I had a friend remote in to my system and we had 2 things that were going on at the same time.  First, my NVDA screen reader would not activate insert space for the browse mode to work. It did not work in the Thunderbird app or online. Second, my executable file for Thunderbird had issues. So I had to install a brand knew NVDA program  and a brand new Thunderbird exe file that my friend had. This is a new one, I will try to explain. I have been trying to send a message to this group from the e-mail address I subscribed to this group with and I always check before send. But thunder bird send me message failures from my other account that it cant send the message because that address is not subscribed to the list. I was like yes, that is why I wrote the message in the e-mail account that was subscribe to the list with. So why is thunder bird trying to send messages written in one account making it like I sent it from another account? Is there a setting I missed? Thank you, Heather

I'm using the newest version of Thunderbird.  As I have said before, I have never had this problem in all of the years I have had this account.  I don't see the spam folder on Thunderbird.  Yes, I have a pop3 as I said in another email and I have checked on the google site.  There is no messages in there.  I called them today and told them I didn't get their emails so I am having them sending it to another address.  My service provider is through Spectrum and I have had it for 10 months and haven't had a problem until now.   My niece looked at my account and said there is no reason why I shouldn't have gotten these emails.  Thanks for all of your suggestions.

I suppose with an IMAP account, you could have an additional spam folder in your e-mail program and you would have to check both.

Also, some providers black list certain addresses and domains that are rightly or wrongly believed to send a lot of spam. If so, the only way to correct the problem is to have your provider remove the block.  I don’t know enough about that to discuss it further.  Others should.

What is the domain of the e-mail address, the part of the address such as GMail.com, AT&T.com, the part immediately after the at sign that indicates the provider?

Hello,

Since last Fall, I have been using NVDA as my main Screen Reader. I do so because about this same time JAWS stopped working well in Jarte.

I have called JAWS several times since then, and they tell me they no longer support Jarte and too bad so sad etc.

So I am asking, are any of you using an alternative Word Processor to MS Word?

I own MS Word, but frankly, I find it to be such a Headache to use. If you love it, please don't write me telling me that you Love it. I already know that MS Word has their fans. I happen not to be one of them.

So if any here uses another Word Processor, and you like it, would you share the name of it here?

I am now looking for something to replace Jarte.

Hi,
I just downloaded JARTE, and I like it so far, but I am still encountering the issue where the cursor is not talking, even though I have gone to the settings
and followed the prompts in the article by David Goldfield. What else can I do to fix this? I have the JARTE Plus. It was free, so I got it.

Sincerely,

Morning Jasmine,

This should get you going, notes below the URL:

https://www.jarte.com/help_new/screen_reader_mode.html

Jarte will only enter screen reader mode if a recognized screen reader is running. Jarte's title bar will display the phrase "screen reader mode" when
Jarte is running in screen reader mode.

If Jarte does not recognize your screen reader program then you can force Jarte to switch to screen reader mode by copying the phrase "enable screen reader
mode" to the Windows clipboard before starting Jarte. This only needs to be done one time.

If Jarte is running in screen reader mode, but it should not be, then you can turn off screen reader mode by copying the phrase "disable screen reader
mode" to the Windows clipboard and then restarting Jarte. This only needs to be done one time.

Take care and stay safe.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.  Go Rams!

JAWS Tip: Is JAWS Not Speaking As You Move Your Cursor? Try Toggling Enhanced Edit Support
In almost all applications moving the cursor or caret using your arrow keys causes JAWS (or any screen reader) to speak the character, word or line as
you use the appropriate cursor movement commands, such as right arrow for next character, control+right arrow for next word, etc. This works nearly 100%
of the time. However, I recently noticed that JAWS wasn’t speaking as I was moving the cursor in
Jarte,
a Wordpad-like word processor that I often use. This was baffling until I found the fix. (Note: in the interest of full transparency I may have enabled
the setting that I’m about to discuss as a default. Therefore, the problem that I encountered may not actually have been a JAWS issue but may have been
something that I personally enabled.)

If you encounter this problem in Jarte or in any program where cursor navigation isn’t speaking try toggling enhanced edit support. Here’s how you can
locate this feature.

1. Press insert+F2 for the list of JAWS managers and press enter on Settings Center. As a quick shortcut pressing insert+6 will open Settings Center. This
is the 6 on the row of numbers and not on the number pad. If you are asked to create a new configuration press enter to accept.

2. In the search edit field type, enhanced.

3. Navigate with the down arrow key through the list of results and look for “enhanced edit support.” While this should be enabled for Word it should be
disabled for Jarte. Pressing the space key toggles this setting from being not checked (turned off) to being checked (enabled.)

4. Press enter twice, which will close Settings Center and save your changes.
David Goldfield,

Stay safe & take care.  Mike.
Just once, I want a username and password prompt to say:  "Close Enough!"

JAWS does work well in JARTE and the JARTE home page explains this.  You can use code when you start JARTE to tell it to rrun in screen-reader mode.  If you do that once, you don’t have to use the code again.  It will run in screen-reader mode when you start JARTE.  That’s the problem.  JARTE doesn’t recognize JAWS as a screen-reader and therefore doesn’t automatically go into screen-reader mode.

Its not a question of JAWS supporting or not supporting JARTE.  It’s a question of having JARTE run in screen-reader mode when it doesn’t know a screen-reader is present.

JAWS does work well in JARTE and the JARTE home page explains this. You can
use code when you start JARTE to tell it to rrun in screen-reader mode. If
you do that once, you don’t have to use the code again. It will run in
screen-reader mode when you start JARTE. That’s the problem. JARTE doesn’t
recognize JAWS as a screen-reader and therefore doesn’t automatically go
into screen-reader mode.

Its not a question of JAWS supporting or not supporting JARTE. It’s a
question of having JARTE run in screen-reader mode when it doesn’t know a
screen-reader is present.

Subject: [TechTalk] Alternative Word Processors?

Hello,

Since last Fall, I have been using NVDA as my main Screen Reader. I do
so because about this same time JAWS stopped working well in Jarte.

I have called JAWS several times since then, and they tell me they no
longer support Jarte and too bad so sad etc.

So I am asking, are any of you using an alternative Word Processor to MS
Word?

I own MS Word, but frankly, I find it to be such a Headache to use. If
you love it, please don't write me telling me that you Love it. I
already know that MS Word has their fans. I happen not to be one of them.

So if any here uses another Word Processor, and you like it, would you
share the name of it here?

I am now looking for something to replace Jarte.

I made a mistake in my last message on this subject.  You won’t find what I am discussing on the home page.  there is a link on the home page that says Screen-reader mode and if you follow it, you will find information about screen[-reader mode including how to use Jarte with JAWS..

When something happens such as you describe, JARTE stops working with a screen-reader, for example, it’s a good idea to check the web site.  You may find nothing relevant, I wouldn’t be surprised, or the relevant information may be posted later when the developer of the program learns about and addresses the problem, but you may find information that will save you time and trouble.  I don’t know when this information was placed on the site but had it been there around the time this problem arose, you could have continued to use JAWS.

Also, I find technical support staff to be wrong often enough that I don’t assume what they say is correct unless I have good reason to believe so.  Asking about this problem on a list like this when it first arose might have gotten you good help.  Either looking at the web site or asking might have.

I’m going into all this to possibly save you and others unnecessary work and inconvenience in future.

What shut down sound?  There is no shutdown sound in Windows 10, unless one has been added as part of  a recent feature update.

Re: Gmail Question

Gene

I sent another message about this in response to another message in the thread.  Evidently, you mean you checked the spam folder in the online interface.  I don’t want to assume that because you speak of the spam folder and spam filter but don’t, as I recall, specify online.

Also, I have no idea how likely it may be that GMail has blocked an address or domain.  If it has, I also have no idea how likely it is that you can have it unblocked.

Whatever the case, do you have another e-mail address with a different provider?

also, if this can be worked out, the person may be able to send the message to someone you know and that person can forward it to you.

I have a pop3 account and yes, I have checked my spam folder multiple times.  I don't see any message from this person so I'm not sure if she is even sending it.  She supposedly sent it twice.

            Hi Group:

I haven't had this happen before so wanted to get your take on it.  I'm
not even sure if there is a problem.  Someone was sending me a volunteer
application last Friday and I never got it so I called them on Wednesday
to let them know that I never got it and they were going to send it
again.  Needless to say, I never got it when they sent it the second
time.  I have never had a problem with my email where I never got what
someone was sending.  I had someone who was sighted check my account and
she said everything looks in order.  I even went to the spam folder and
it's not in there.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  The other
thing is I thought that maybe she never sent it at all.  I am stumped.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Gmail Question

Gene

The original message said she had checked her spam filter.  My question is are you using a POPP3 or anIMAP account?  Did you check the spam filter online and did you check in your e-mail program,  if you are using a POP3 account?  They aren’t the same folder in that case and you have to check both.

Tried checking your junk folder. It’s possible it could’ve gone into there.
