Patrick, the Chromebooks come with there own speech program called
ChromeVox. You can turn it on and off by alt ctrl z.

Your are correct.Pressing 1 is correct. But, you have to do a long
press of the 1. The Stream will say "Enter user guide". To get out of
it, long press the 1 again.

I have had many computers of most brands, and have always removed the brand named software, it’s the first thing I do, and have never experienced any issues.
