Thankfully, this is an optional update - would have been very urgent if it was a regular monthly update. Microsoft acknowledge this problem a few hours ago.

You should have been asked whether you wanted to receive notifications from the site. Others may comment but I am not aware of sites being able to send you notifications unless you are specifically

I just ran mrt and it didn't find anything on a quick scan. Guess I'll wait a day or 2 and see what happens, the survey popups didn't scare me even though I've never gotten them before maybe the past

I was told this morning by somebody I trust that Microsoft accessibility will remotely scan for malware for me so I'll likely do that either later today or maybe first thing tomorrow morning

People shouldn't get more popups with Chrome than with other browsers. I think that this happens because people answer yes when sites ask if they can send notifications. But that could happen with

That sounds like malware. You might as well ask the Microsoft service if they do that kind of thing. We know it isn't notifications from sites.

The popups seem to be random, in other words not on any particular site. One of them says that I've been chosen at random to fill out a survey but I close it out with either alt-f4 or sometimes
