I think there are a few different voices you can select for Siri. Male or female and another accent.

Re: iPhone update?
I have mine set, where I can press the Home Button three times, and it will make VoiceOver come on, if it is off.
Best regards,
Carolyn

When I first was with Consumer Cellular, I did not have an iPhone, but my husband had an Android, so we got the minimum data, which we still have.

Re: iPhone update?
It is easy to get VoiceOver off, for instance, if you do the two-finger double=-tap, but accidentally use three fingers - just stuff like that. Barb covered all the possibilities.

True about voice commands on flip phones. I never thought about how that worked, kind of like magic.

Has he tried turning Volume up, say, while Siri is giving a weather forecast, because it has to be talking to get volume up. I don't know if that would work for VoiceOver, when Siri is talking.

He said he pushed the Home Button, or it would be the Power Button on newer phones, and when he hears the dings, he tells it what to dial - well the tings or dings are Siri. Go figure.

Re: Can I get rid of the ribbon with Windows 7?
Like Gene said, as you navigate ribbons, the commands are
spoken by your screen reader, or at least by JAWS. It gets
to be more familiar and natural, if you keep at it, which is
the same thing I told

I have mine set for Hay Siri, so, if I ever have an emergency and am in shouting distance of my phone I can say, Hay Siri, call 911; or I could say Siri, what is the weather for Sanford, North

True enough, because there are plans for calling and texting and no Net, but probably, somewhere out there, it goes on satellites or someway to reach its destination.

Yes, one can turn Siri off, although I have no idea why anyone would, even if they didn't use her/it/him. I'm not sure if you can change the Siri voice or not, haven't looked enough in her setting to

A lot of our card players use rolling bags to hold all their stuff - multiple decks of cards for, what I call high-dollar games (not money, just complexity); shufflers; high trays; card holders; score

Right. Siri is only an Internet assistant device that anyone
can use, where VoiceOver is an accessibility aid without
which I, as a totally blind person, could not use an iPhone
like I do.

I see it exactly as you do, Janet, unless someone can
explain to me otherwise. I use my phone a lot too. I rarely
use Siri to make calls, because I seem to get better
connection by going to Contacts
