your comments imply that Windows 7 may be less stable. Your system may have specific problems but I see no reason why Windows 7 and beyond should be less stable than XP, assuming no other problems

I agree! Nobody should be forced to upgrade. As for malware and all that stuff, antivirus and antimalware programs should be able to take care of a lot of that. Not all programs take care of all of
