Re: android or chrome os on a desktop?
Chris G <chris@...>
Hi Simon,
You can get Chrome OS on a desktop, they call them Chrome Box. chromeVox not to be confused with Chrome Box is the screen reader. Depending on what you want to do with Chrome OS, it works well. Plus you can install and run supported Android apps. Need help about replying, and deleteing comment
Hi all
A friend ask me on replying, and deleting comments on MS Office word via context menu, but I've not use this feature for many years so I don't know how to help her. I asked her to try pressing alt+q, and search for the comment related command, but she still want to use context menu, so if you know how to do that, please help. Using the latest Jaws, Windows 10, and Office 2016. Cuong.

Problem Downloading Voices on IPhone
Samuel Wilkins
Hello all, I have just updated to the latest IOS 13. However, it has lost the voice I usually use, and when I try to download that or other voices, it says "Insufficient disc space for 0 bytes download." I don't understand why this was happening, as I've never had disc space problems before. Does anyone know why this might be happening? Thank you.

I would highly recommend you go ahead and update all the possible utilities and the drivers on this laptop or PC. There would be absolutely zero impact on any of the accessibility solutions in USE due to these updates. They are very useful from the stability perspective. Thank you, Bharat.

android or chrome os on a desktop?
goshawk on horseback
hello all,
am currently running win7 on my desktop machine,
but seemingly support for this is going to end this coming january.
not only do I not really want windows 10, as I have
just heard so many stories of access issues with it, especially when it comes to
those pesky ribbon menus, but as my current screenreader is window-eyes, that
seemingly won't work with it as well.
so if I have got to change both my os and
screenreader, rather than the win10 rout, I wondered if there is any sort of
android desktop machine?
as at least having used that on my samsung phone,
if there is, I thought that may be a better rout to go.
if that's not possible, another option that I am
considering, is something like chrome os, again, if I can find that on a desktop
machine, so am wondering if anyone has had any experience of this with it's
screenreader, and range of apps?
as I have heard a few good things about this, but
don't really know that much about it.

The first thing is that how many PC users are there around the World? Millions? A Billion or two? And probably very few of those Millions of Machines all have the same files, and combinations of files. And then on top of this, the Machines can be very different from one another, and I am speaking of Hardware here, and not Software. The Typical PC can be built from a Parts Bin of parts, made by anyone from around the world, and every Company that makes parts can make them in what ever way they believe will be compatible with the Standards for a PC System. And these Component Companies are constantly updating their own hardware, and they also have many models of what ever part they produce. Say the typical Video Card manufacture has how many models per year, and during that year, how many hardware changes are made? And then have this done by most of the Companies who produce Components that will eventually be placed into your System, and even though there is such a wide variety of Part designs and quality, Microsoft has the unenviable task of needing to run flawlessly on that Hodge podge of Computer parts stuffed into that Box sitting on your desk, or on your lap. Sheesh! I am Surprised much of anything works as well as it does! Now Apple on the other hand, keeps very strict control over the parts that go into their Apple Mac Systems. So you could say, the Apple OS is Tuned to run well on those known Components and only those components. Microsoft only designs and manufactures the Windows Operating System, and Microsoft has no real ability to control how the many component manufacturers create, build and then sell their Computer parts. And sometimes there are combinations of Computer parts that are just not quite 100 percent compatible. Now, in theory, they are to be compatible, but just because they are supposed to, doesn't always mean they are 100 percent compatible. OK, so MS Windows has to be able to talk and work with all the varieties of parts that make up those Millions of PC Systems. Then add to that mess, all the millions of Software Titles that get installed onto those millions of Systems. those software titles are all supposed to be following Microsoft Standards, but guess what, they don't always do this. Even Microsoft doesn't always follow their own Rule Book for writing Software! And these programs that have such Rule violations within them, might not run the same on all PC Machines. And this could be where conflicts start to cause problems. And Microsoft has changed these Windows Standards over the years MS Windows has been around. So a program that followed the rules to the letter 10 years ago, might not run all that well on the latest edition of MS Windows because the Rules have changed enough to cause problems for older programs. And I am leaving out a Lot here, and am only trying to quickly cover the ground to give you an idea of just what Microsoft has been able to do, and the miracle that it is that any of us have a System that works well. I won't talk about all the various Drivers that come with some of the Hardware found in your System. And I won't say much about how these Drivers can have conflicts if not updated to the latest driver, or there might be conflicts if you do update those much needed drivers! And then there is the operating System, that has to meet requirements put in place by many Governments around the world. I once worked for a Software Company where our program would not work 100 percent if they were using a System made in England, Germany, or a few countries in South America. Apparently, there were small differences in the version of Windows sold and installed on Systems in those Countries. this same company, where I worked, had an issue if the user had a particular Asian Font installed. Go figure! But it would give all sorts of Wild Video problems when our program was operated. So when the typical Windows user, decides to go ahead and Push the Big Red Button to start downloading and installing the latest Microsoft Update, that Update could be getting installed on a System that has some serious issues, because the owner of this System is constantly altering the Settings, updating other software, uninstalling software Bla Bla Bla. And on and on it goes! Or everything could be perfect, and still the download gets Sideways and is Corrupted and now that perfect machine is in a rough place. maybe the update can be uninstalled, or maybe it can't. Depends upon what sort of File Corruption took place, and which files are corrupted. And I am leaving out a lot here that can all be factors in whether or not your System is going to download and update as it should or not. For myself, I know I try to keep my System very Clean. I don't do a lot of Experimentation with my Main System. And so far, on this New System, I have not have issues with updates. But, when I go ahead and Press the Big Red Update Button, I confess, I do Hold My Breath, Pray, and Hope for the Best. Grumpy Dave

ACB won that landmark case against the Department of Treasury even though the NFB was averse to the idea, sided with Miss Government and lost on all fronts. How long exactly must it take to come up with acceptable tactile markings on the dollar bill? The $1 bill is exempted from such markings and that's fine with me. Using the iBill or even any phone app in my situation is NOT KOSHER and poses threats against which I may not be able to defend myself in a store front where I am typically working alone. How many more litigations are needed to correct a wrong? And I'm told always that TWO WRONGS don't make a right, how about the very first wrong? If Miss Government can't police herself by making sure that she enforces ADA impartially, why should private commercial entities be scolded at every turn for hardly ever thinking about ADA? Hi Gene! This is getting ridiculous. How dare they, Microsoft release updates before they make sure that the updates will work first. People, will be forced to switch to lenox if that continues. If it was other companies treated their customers in that fashion, there would be such an outcry where it is possible that those companies might be going bankrupt. Shame on Microsoft; that is poor workmanship. Emile.
